1 :: 365 // everything & nothing all at once, goin with everything . Waybackkk in 2010 I did my first 365 project, a photo a day, they make me die laughing now, but dang what a fresh start —-> zoom to 2015 told myself I’d do the project every 5 years, this is where I shot all 35mm film & personally 2015 was one of the best years of my life. The documentation brings me back to my memories ten folds. &&& now we’re here & I am even more excited to see what photos come to light this year. Comparison is the thief of joy, but in this case I’m excited to see my year(s) side by side. Major theme, did I grow? Did I start 2010 the same way I started 2020 with another random new years eve under my belt? What’s changed? This decade;

I grew up. I went from being a lost little 20 something year old social butterfly to the true introvert even more bossy grown up version of myself. I graduated college. I quit my job & started my own successful business. I’ve broken hearts & had mine shattered in return. I lost more than one best friend. I learned to pick the pieces up & opened my heart to new. I’ve never stopped standing up for myself when situations go awry. I’ve been challenged by many. I had a very close friend tell me that she’s the only reason I’m even successful in my own business. That changed me, almost immediately. Someone trying to take the value of your life’s work. It cut so deep. I’ve been told ‘how dare I’, when making choices that reflected others. I’ve been told I’m too ‘new new’. I’ve been judged because I wasn’t vegan enough. I’ve cried on all my birthdays over stupid & petty things I now wish I could take back. I was told to fuck off by so many people I truly love & still love & think about to this very day. I’m letting it all go now, the weight has been so damn heavy. I did make bad choices & mistakes that I w o u l d n ‘ t take back. They shaped me to make better choices now in the present & future. I’ve grown, I’ve grown so much. So many apologies I’m now ready to make shamed of my own stubbornness. I did make friends good enough to help me ten folds in a major time of need. I fell in love. I’ve made some of the best memories to look back on, we really did the damn thing. I got married. I took the leap of faith with him. We’ve worked so so hard maintaining our relationship & in focus our friendship over this decade. We chose each other, over & over again. I watched my parents lose their parents & pick up the pieces with dignity. I moved so many times from here to there and back again. I let LA swallow me up and spit me back out this time in the desert for some peace. I finally found a place that feels like home. We bought a house! We travelled near & far & worked so hard for so many people. Coming into this new year I feel so hopeful. Like I can finally breathe. I’m so excited for this next decade I could scream. I can’t wait to make new friends in a city I want to start my very own family in. BETTER YET challenge myself to be one of the best artist I know I deserve to be. LIFEHACK I learned the worst things ever will always always always happen to you. It’s how you walk away from them, that what matters. Time to get my shit together a g a i n. 2020 I got u. #openlettertomyself

twenty seven years young

Spoiled is an understatement. I spent the perfectly hot & sunny day in Malibu paddle boarding with Tanner - lunch at Malibu Farm in the canyon, drinks at the Ace Rooftop Downtown, dinner at 71 Above and drinks later that night with the homies Cody + Jessica.. The next day all my friends spoiled me {thank you to Sheena + Alyssa SO MUCH for making all the delicious food} Probably the best birthday I have ever had & thanks an understatement. Lucky to call you all my friends, thank you for celebrating with me <3

Hoss Wedding Day {Sayulita, Mexico}

So many emotions spill over my mind when thinking about this perfect day in Sayulita. It’s nearly been two years and it’s felt like the time has flew by.  So many details went into our wedding.  We got married on our actual “dating” anniversary of 7 YEARS and we’ve been lucky enough to have a friendship now for around 10 years.  

We used tanners vintage type writer to address all of our guests envelops, I even bought vintage stamps to add a flair to them.  I was lucky enough to create my own save the dates and invitations with images of us through out our years of dating.  I also created custom postcard packs for each of our guests as our thank yous with some of my all time favorite film images that I have taken in all of our favorite places that we’ve been together, Big Sur, New York, Downtown LA, Hosses Pond & Wyoming. We also custom type writed each of our guests name, our wedding date and our hossxxboink to label the postcard packs, they also had a unique poem on the back that tanner had written, BG BLANK style.

While in town we picked up some unique postcards and ended up both writing our vows on them for the ceremony.  I gifted tanner a new wallet the day of, since he took me for a staycation at the ace hotel in downtown LA and tickets to TV on the Radio as our wedding gifts to each other. 

My details of the day included a gifted bracelet from my godmother, Tracey (I love you so much, you have been there through out my entire life I can’t thank you and Mark enough for making the trip). I wore different rings from Vanessa Mooney, simple opal earrings (Tanner’s birthstone) from freepeople, sunglasses from Valley Eyewear, and a custom made hair crown with opal quarts and ruby beads (our birthstones) from Cassie. Thank you Cassie for making me feel absolutely beautiful on my wedding day, my makeup and hair was everything I could have wanted.

I was lucky enough to add to my engagement ring made by Mother of Gideon, three simple bands, again one filled with opal, one with ruby, and one with diamonds.  Tanner was lucky enough to be handed down his Grandfather Virgil’s wedding band, a huge influence on him. We also had our rings engraved his with “VB49″ for Virgil + Betty married in 1949 and my ring was engraved “TK15″ Tanner + Katie 2015 - so that someday we can pass down our rings to our kids and they can engrave their names and wedding year too. My heart flutters thinking about this small simple detail.

I wore a dress from For Love and Lemons & I decided to be barefoot for the day.  I had some beautiful foot jewelry made by Forever Soles. We rented a beautiful huge home in Sayulita, Mexico “Casa Vela” for the week and held the wedding there. At the entrance when you walked in we had each guest leave a polaroid as our guestbook. I had a flower wall made for photo backdrop & margaritas ready to go for guests as they entered. We laid out simple pillows and mexican blankets for our guests to view and watch us get married.  I wanted it to be very simple low key and relaxed. I was running about 45 minutes late to my ceremony due to me running around and taking my own detail images of the reception - classic right?  We had a mariachi band play while our guests enjoyed margs and beers while they waited patiently for me to come down the stairs.

I wanted all the decor at our reception to be white and gold, I can not thank Somer enough from Vida Bonita Events for pulling this all off for us. We lugged an entire suitcase full of gold candle stick holders (that we spray painted ourselves), white long candle sticks & gold votives from BHLDN decor. She provided us with beautiful wood long tables and gold accent chairs.  Dinner with a view is what I wanted for my guests and that is what they got.

My mom walked Tanner down the aisle at this point everyone was so excited for it to start our guests were chanting, clapping and hollering at us.  A huge important aspect was that my Uncle Matt married us, seriously he is one of our bestfriends and we are so beyond lucky to be able to not only call him family but more importantly our life long friend. He has been there as well for me my entire life, birthdays, Christmases, graduations and now my marriage.

My dad walked me down the aisle and about 5 steps down I asked him to tell me a favorite memory of me.  At that point he got five words out “well, when you were born” and started balling crying. I love you dad. You have let me be me my entire life and you and mom have given me everything and more.  You are such amazing examples of what parents should be. My Uncle Matt gave more than a beautiful ceremony for us, we both wrote our own vows and exchanged rings.

I can’t thank one of my bestfriends Tim (LOL TIM DAVE @hydreams) enough for making the trek and taking my 1979 Cannon FTQL 35mm film camera to photograph the entire thing.  The photos are timeless and you could not have done a better job. We are so entirely grateful of you. We love you forever and ever for this.

In more details, Tanner wore a custom made shirt by another one of our friends, Bo (@bo_zart), pants by Chapter and his shoes were custom made by Broken Homme.

After the ceremony we took family & friend photos with everyone that came, this I am so grateful for. While guests enjoyed more cocktails, Tanner’s dad Tim drove us on his golf cart down to the beach for some sunset romantic photos.

I must say if you were there you know, but it was seriously the most beautiful sunset full of pinks, blues, purples & oranges the pictures seriously do no justice.  Tanner and myself just felt Virgil there, he definitely helped with all the colors in the air we just know it.  I also have to give a huge thank you to my bestfriend Sheena, who on a whim I threw another 35mm film camera in her hand and her and Tim just clicked the most beautiful photos of us. I can’t believe how lucky I am to have shared these moments with you both, you captured more than I ever could have hoped for.

We headed back to the casa to greet our guests seated for dinner.  My mom gave absolutely the most beautiful speech from her heart. Another thank you to Cassie & Dave for speaking as well and setting such an amazing tone for the rest of the night.  We cut the cake and ate it too, served tacos and rice and beans, duh.  We then made our way back down to dance the night away. And let me tell you it was LIT.

Our first dance was to one our our favorite bands, ALT-J “Tessellate”.  I danced with my dad to Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide” a song I grew up hearing in his truck. Tanner danced with my mom to Frank Sinatra’s “The Way You Look Tonight”.  We then danced the night away with friends, and by 10pm tanner was chanting on the microphone “who wants to go to town with Tanny Rikta and Katie Boink!!!” as everyone screamed back woooooo. It was hilarious. We then made our way to after party in town, as our friends exited our ride (that mini van the Mudge’s rented came in cluch), we decided to hop back in the car and not go out with any of them, Dave then drove us up the street and we walked to a hamburger stand on the side of the road and enjoyed some alone time.

We were surrounded by so much love all week.  Its unexplainable. We took the sad plane home to LA and ended the week with a little styled shoot on our lofts rooftop overlooking downtown LA.

I can’t thank each an everyone of you enough for making the trip to Sayulita. Everything literally went perfectly and that was because we have the best family and friends that support us.  I love you guys. REUNION? JUST TELL ME WHEN!

Boinks Bridal Shower <3

There are some days in your life where you are meant to feel like a real life princess.  So lucky and grateful for all the ladies below who made me feel special on this day (my heart warms looking thru these photos).

Huge shout out to my beautiful Mother (Mommy Sherry) & my bestfriend Sheena for hosting this party (where we may have had one too many eastsides by the end). The food was insanely bomb, the gifts were amazing, but the overall company of all these souls was all a girl needed.  Thank you for making it out girls, I hope someday when its your turns I can make you feel as special as you made me feel <3

A hot sunny day spent with my bestfriends, Highland Park - you were insane.. I commend you for over 5 hours of fireworks & being able to watch them from my backyard it was the best experience of all. Also gotta add that the blow up pool & watermelon jellobowl took the cake.
