it was moments like this that the blonde began to question why she chose this career, why she couldn’t have just gone and did something that was less stressful at times. being on code blue the whole day, she has already experienced losing five patients and it was frustrating, to not be able to do anything to save their lives. right now, she just really needed to get drunk and forget about all of that. the empty shots of tequila were lined up in front of her and still, they weren’t enough as she hailed the bartender one more. “come on–i need another round here,” she called out to them, before her eyes darted at the person who occupied the bar stool next to hers. “i swear i’m normally chirpier than this.”

After long days on shift, trying to save peoples’ lives, she often found herself stopping by the bar to drink some of the stress away. Being a paramedic, she often was the one to put a band-aid on a problem to get someone to survive long enough to get to the hospital so the doctors could work on them. And so, she wasn’t always the one to lose patients, but she still understood it. Sometimes, there were those who she found herself caring a little more about than the others. She understood the hardship first responders and doctors had, wanting to save everyone and sometimes just not being able to. So, drinks it was. It somehow helped. “Hey, no judgment here. Some days are just rough.”

Turtle Cove had become a second or rather third home for Stella. When she wasn’t at the station or in her apartment, she was there– always with a case of beer, since it was a luxury she hadn’t experienced until her mid-twenties. The sun had already set and darkness was creeping up on her. A few stars were already making themselves obvious in the night sky.  There was only a faint chill as summer hung in the balance. Realizing she wasn’t the alone, she craned her head up to look at the other. “Uh, hey,” she smiled, trying her hand at being social.  Holding up her bottle, she shrugged. “You want one?”

Coming to the beach was one of Kara’s favorite things to do when she had a little time off. Being outdoors, in the fresh air and the sun, it was just what she liked. And often, she took her runs along the beach, enjoying it all together. But what was even better was the sunsets at the end of a long day. That was what she’d been doing, watching the sunset and the sky turn dark and a few stars start to sparkle in the sky when she noticed Stella coming onto the beach just about fifty feet away. Walking over, deciding to say hello and see how she’d been doing, she smiled down at the other woman as she offered her a beer. “Yeah, thanks,” She took it, sitting down in the sand beside the woman. “Hey. How’re you doing?”

Charlie laughed as she did. He loved making Kara get that just little bit flustered. Girl was so smooth and used to crisis with her job that he loved throwing her off balance, just that little bit. “Booo … they totally should have used your name.”

Why Charlie always had to do this to her, she didn’t know. Maybe he just liked to try to make her blush. And she really should have gotten used to it by now. Shaking her head as she looked at him, she gave a shrug to her shoulders. “It’s fine. I was just happy that every was healthy and doing well.”

“I totally wish. Have you seen your fucking ass? It is amazing.” Charlie replied with a dirty chuckle. “On the first week no less. Holy shit man. That would be amazing. Did they name it after you? Cause that would be extra cool.”

“Oh my god, Charlie,” Kara laughed, shaking her head at how vulgar he was, not that she wasn’t used to it, but it still sometimes took her off guard. “It was crazy, but no. The parents already had a name picked after one of their grandmothers or something like that.”

“It’s called me a kind person. That’s all, so just shut up and come get some water,” Kara insisted, not willing to just let him walk off like everything was fine. Though a minor injury, she didn’t mess around when someone hit their head, even if it had been something as simple as a football.

She felt her dizziness go away and smiled “my dizzy feeling is luckily fading away but next time be careful with that football, but besides the little pain i have from it hitting i’m pretty fine. you?”

“Are you sure?” Kara’s brow creased, still concerned even though Ivy was trying to tell her she was okay. But then she smiled at the way she joked with her. “I’ll do my best. That’s good. Me too. Life’s good. Things are the same but good.”

“Sorry...Sorry, I’ll shut up,” She closed her mouth, trying not to ramble off with a hundred more questions as they were running quickly through her mind. Kara felt awful about that, not meaning to hit anyone, especially not an innocent passerby. “You sure? How about some cold water? We got a jug of it over by the tree.”

“I am okay just a little dizzy but i should be fine in five minutes, just need to sit down for a bit.” she just sat down on the grass as after Kara checked her head she looked up at her.. “I’ll be fine thanks Kar and no worries i have a hardhead.” she chuckled 

Kara nodded, sitting down next to Ivy in the plush grass, bending her knees to rest her elbows on them. “Well, I’m gonna sit with you to make sure,” She said, looking over at her, still checking her with her eye to be sure that everything was okay. “Well don’t I know that. How are you, by the way? Other than the throbbing head, of course.”

Eros had barked in warning, and he was going to claim that was the reason that he hadn’t heard the warning Kara had yelled out. He closed his eyes as the ball hit his head, a groan being released as Alexandre was quick to grab onto his head, the pain irradiating from the place he had been hit. Eros sniffed at his pants before headbutting him lightly, trying to see if he was alright, but then he was betraying his owner by barking happily as the girl approached “I didn’t know you wanted to kill me.” he grumbled half in teasing, even if his head was killing him now, voice gruff from it “Do you have another best friend lined up for when I drop?”

Even with Eros trying to alert her best friend to the ball coming straight to him, he was quick enough to react and Kara watching as it smacked him right in the side of the head. Finally reaching him, she brushed the dog to the side, focused entirely on checking Alexandre’s head out to make sure he wasn’t seriously injured. “If I wanted to kill you, you still wouldn’t be breathing,” she joked back with him, gingering placing her hands on his head, tilting it so she could inspect it to make sure there wasn’t any blood trickling down. “Yep. They’re waiting rather impatiently and keep pestering about when I’m gonna drop you,” Kara chuckled lightly, releasing his head as she stepped back. “You look fine. Probably will just have a headache. I’d take something for it, if I were you,” She told him, getting nudging in her thigh by Eros and she squatted down to start petting him. “Hey buddy. You’re gonna look after this goof, aren’t you?”

Ivy walked around till a football hit her head. “auw.” she said to herself as she held her hand to her hea. feeling a little dizzy from the hitting ball. “Oh hi, yeah i’ll be fine just a little dizzy but what do you expect with a ball hitting your head. “I do not think im bleeding.”

“Crap, Ivy. You okay?” Kara stopped right next to her, not bothering to ask if she could check her head and instead just went right for it. Her fingers being careful to inspect through her blonde locks, not finding any sign on blood. “No, you’re not. You’re good. God, I’m so sorry. That idiot is a terrible receiver and I should have known better. Do you need some water or anything?”

The warning came too late for William, who had been occupied with Roxie wanting to chase a squirrel sitting in a tree. But the young dog did not want to work with William, though she did seem to care once the ball hit him and he started swearing. “Fucking hell that hurt like a son of bitch” He swore as he reached to put pressure where the ball had hit, finally noticing the girl who came running, though he did not look very pleased. “It’ll be fine. It’s not the worst I’ve had thrown at me but god damn that hurt.”

Kara felt awful, looking the male over, inspecting his head to make sure that she didn’t seriously injure him. It was clear by the expression on his face that he wasn’t happy, but who would be happy to get smacked in the side of the head by a stray ball? “I’m sorry. Are you sure you’re okay?” She creased her brow with concern. “I guess I don’t really know my own strength sometimes. Or maybe I just gotta get better friends to toss the ball around with to make sure they always catch it.”

Kara rolled her eyes and laughed at his comment, shaking her head as she looked back at him. “Yeah, you wish that’d happen.” She dismissed it, not even fathoming that Charlie would ever be her pair. “It does. The shifts are long but it’s awesome work and I love. Not lately but I did deliver a baby my first week out on the job. That was crazy.”

“I like to come early when it’s empty,” Abby returned with a smile, though today she had overslept somewhat, and making her way to the beach had been a spur of the moment thing. There were more than a handful of people there besides the two of them right now. “What’s it like here in the summer?”

“I understand that. It’s why I go hiking. You usually don’t bump into too many people in the woods,” She looked out over the beach, brushing her hair back and over one shoulder to keep the wind from blowing it in her face. “It gets crowded. Especially on the weekends when people don’t have to work. But it’s usually still pretty calm in the morning. Are you new around town?”
