fionnualamccarthy:
Fionnuala took the file from him, starting to fill out the paperwork for that file. “Sligo, Ireland, it’s a small town in Northern Ireland. What? Couldn’t tell from the very aggressive Irish accent and name?” she asked with a small smirk upon her features.
“I could tell you were Irish. I just wanted to know where you were from. The only place I know is Dublin.”

“Oh, no. I’m definitely not qualified for a government job. I teach kids at Ilvermorny. I’m the Transfiguration teacher. Hey, if you want I could turn your watch into a duck. It’s pretty cool. But obviously very temporary. Duck watches are mean.”
“Teaching is a hard job. I’m training one of the new recruits and it’s harder than I ever thought it would be.” Kai chuckled. “If you want to you can. As long as it goes back to normal.”

“You don’t? Why not?” She frowned slightly, turning back to him with furrowed brows. “You look so good all dressed up. Like a spy or something. James Bond.” Anya giggled, fixing the collar of his suit lightly. “You know, I don’t believe you have.”
“I don’t really like these things. This year is better now that I have a date.” Kai wrapped an arm around Anya as she turned to face him. “I’m hotter than James Bond.” Kai grinned and kissed her forehead. “Then I’ll tell you now. You look beautiful. I feel like the luckiest man alive.”

“Do you have to come to these things every year?” Tierney gaped. “That’s terrible. I’d quick for sure.”
“This one, yes. It’s a big event.” Kai looked at them. “Have you ever been to a government ball? Sometimes they get better.”

“Yes.” Kai looked across the crowd. “Every year we have the Presidential Ball. If there are any other balls I don’t go to them.” He looked back at Anya. “Have I told you that you look beautiful this evening?”
“Doesn’t everyone look so beautiful?” She asked dreamily, looking around at all the dresses and dress robes. “Do they do balls like this often? I feel so out of the loop sometimes.”

“Yeah, it can be a bit much.” Kai looked at all the people dancing. “I’m lucky I don’t have to buy something new every year.”
“So do you have to go to this thing every year? That seems like a lot.”

A small smile tugged at the corners of Kai’s mouth. “I’m an auror. You don’t work here, do you?”
“Ok, so you must work here. No one with those kind of muscles just has a normal job.” Armitage closed his eyes a little, “Ok, sorry I’m a little drunk.”

“Okay, death in a children’s book, morbid or good life lesson?” Anna questioned with raised eyebrows.
@kaimahiai
“It depends on how you handle the death. Don’t get too gory but keep it real.”

“They sure would.” Aurelia smiled, “But they’d do it lovingly.” She reached for the case file with a bright smile. “Oh, Kai, you shouldn’t have but thank you.” The Aurors and HIT officers were always flipping cases, she was sure it drove Carter wild. She flipped through the information. “Beautiful. Are you sure you want to give this up?” It seemed like the perfect case to get her going again.
“Only because they love me. You’re right.” Kai huffed out a laugh. “You came back across the Atlantic Ocean, you deserve something good to get you started again.”

Anya’s face lit up at his words, eyes shining at the thought of them going on rides together. Although she would miss doing so on one bike, another excuse to keep herself close to him. “Yes!” She cried, nodding excitedly. “Can I get one of those cool bike jackets?” She asked, as she tried to refasten her helmet by herself.
Kai chuckled as he helped her with her helmet. “You’ll need to learn how to do this on your own.” He teased before pulling out his wand. He didn’t have a jacket in her size but figured she could borrow one of his. It got cold when he really used his bike. “You can borrow one of my jackets for tonight. We can pick one out for you soon.”

Anastasia relaxed somewhat in his arms as he agreed, breathing a sigh of relief. She hadn’t realized how much it scared her - having to go to Russia and face this alone. She was never good at this sort of thing, and the most she’d ever dealt with was losing pets, or when her friends had lost someone. She felt lost. “Thank you.” She whispered, leaning her head on his shoulder with a soft breath, focusing on the way his chest rose and fell with his own. “I think you might like it there.” Anya said softly, her mind wandering.
“Anything for you.” He said softly. Kai shifted slightly as he made himself more comfortable. "Is it cold?” He asked, looking down at her. “I heard Russia is cold.”

“Of course I’m serious, it’ll be good for them. We can take a break from drills and just do a scrimmage or something.” Grayson nodded, excited at the prospect. It would give him a chance to play the game again as well, and not just float around blowing a whistle. “Yes, I am jealous.” He laughed, shaking his head. “If she gets drafted and moves to England I will kill you.”
“Those were always fun when we played. Just let me know when so I can plan ahead.” Kai would have to practice before the scrimmage, but it was something to look forward to. “Why kill me? It’s not like I have anything to do with it.”

“And where is that? I mean we don’t even say no-maj where I’m originally from.”
“Lanai. It’s a small island in Hawaii.” Kai handed her a file. “Where are you from?”

“You make it sound like that would be such a bad thing.” He laughed, rolling his eyes. “It would do the kids some good. They think they’re so big and tough, help me knock ‘em down a few pegs.” Grayson smirked, imagining their faces if Kai showed up to practice with them. “They may be a great team, but she’s supposed to like my team. Even my old team. Not a team I couldn’t ever even play on.”
“I’m down if you’re serious. I miss hitting things. Plus I’m about twice their size, let them fear something.” Kai chuckled. He took a sip of his beer as he thought about actually flying again. He’d gone out to fly solo before, and he kept all his old stuff before. He would be fine to go. “Please, you’re just jealous because she likes a bunch of girls better than your team. Let her love Holyhead, they’re a strong team. It’s not like they compete with your team.”

“Carter use to give me treats to, but then I started digging through her office for them, so she quit.” Aurelia laughed as she peeked through the office windows and the ball of fluff. “You’re too crazy for office life.” She teased, “But it’s great getting to see you and being back home.” Aurelia had always felt like America was more home than England.
“I bet she did.” Kai chuckled. “I know I am, but I can’t die on my dogs. They’d find me and eat my body.” Kai spun in his chair and grabbed something from his desk. “It’s good to see you too. That’s why I got you a present.” It was a case, a big, fat, juicy case. One that Kai had been wanting to work on but found that it would be a much better ‘welcome home’ gift for his friend.
