Anthony Burrill

We were given a talk by Anthony Burrill. He discussed his practice, what he does in the studio, and how he made a name for himself in the industry. Burrill's practice combines simplicity, and analogue craft with powerful messages. He primarily uses the letterpress to create his artwork. He has collaborated with universities, organizations, and more. It was an inspirational talk and I learned a lot about finding and honing your craft.

Butcher Billy is a Brazilian Graphic designer and illustrator his work is based on contemporary pop art. His illustration style is heavily influenced by comics and street art.

I really connected to his 2013 'Post Punk /New Wave Super Friends Project '. The project discussed what makes a pop culture icon. he crossed post-punk artists from the 1980s such as Robert Smith and vintage Archie comics.

Telephone music video -Lady Gaga and Beyonce

The aesthetics and visuals reminisce of Roy Lichtenstein's artwork.

The music video is a social commentary on consumerism - a vast amount of product placement and advertisement. We are controlled and easily manipulated into overconsuming which ties in with our understanding of Anthropocene.

Anthony Burrill Brief artist research

Roy Lichtenstein was an American visual artist who rose to fame in the early 1960s, He painted large-scale paintings and the subjects were inspired by popular culture. He was influenced by comic strips and later used a perforated screen to create Benday dots to show colour gradation and texture. In the late 1960s, he's artwork became more abstract.

Anthony Burrill Brief:

We were given an icon from Anthony Burrill's XYZ foundry for this brief. We had to design an A5 sheet with the icon and the word Anthropocene. Researched the word Anthropocene and how I could connect the image to its meaning.

I thumbnailed a few designs and after crits, I decided to go with the phone hanging and the word Anthropocene being shouted through the phone.

Bats Day in the Fun Park Mood board -digital

Firstly I created thumbnails . My mood board featured my own photography taken from a few subculture society meetings. I focused on the colour palette of red and black , with splashes of pastel colours such as pink ,yellow , green etc. If I were to do this mood board again , I would fill the space more.

Cocktail mood board: Aperol spritz

We were tasked with making a digital mood board for a cocktail , and had to explain the taste , ingredients, and origin without showing the actual drink .

We were given a brief introduction to Adobe illustrator, and set up an a3 landscape . I had saved images into a folder and then placed them onto the moodboard . my cocktail was an Aperol spritz , which is champagne and Aperol.

I drew literal translations of the words I had associated with the festival . The first page featured illustrations of different goths and their clothing , while the second page featured illustrations I associate with Disney as Disney is one main components of the festival .
