Quote
Some people live as though they are already dead. There are people moving around us who are consumed by their past, terrified of their future, and stuck in their anger and jealousy. They are not alive; they are just walking corpses.

Sharing this image of a beautiful young papuan girl … Funny how we have to censor the image, not quite sure what we need to protect ourselves from in this image. #sarcasmintended #teptok #melanesia #tattoo #revival #Repost @secretmuseumofmankind ・・・ “Photographed and produced by Papuan Prints. [APT8 Installation of Yumi Danis] Yumi Danis (We Dance) brings together dancers and musicians from Papua, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and New Caledonia. It is staged as an immersive multimedia installation, animated by contemporary dance and consciously addresses the issues involved in translating and contextualising performance from these regions for a broader audience.
Follow the APT8 installation on our Flickr albums before the opening weekend of 21-22 November.

Reveal - Showing at APT8
Julia Mage'au Gray from Sunameke Productions premiered ‘Reveal’, a solo performance at Tempo Dance Festival for PRIME - Oct 10 - 12, 2014 at the Q Theatre in Auckland, New Zealand.
“In Central province, Papua New Guinea, we are losing our tattoo practice. It was once a prolific practice, by women for women. The last three years have been dedicated to reviving our tattoo culture.
Slowly there has been progress from marking our designs upon our skin with felt pen (vivids) to learning to tattoo and mark our designs permanently.
In todays environment, it is the individuals choice to mark their skin with whatever they desire, but in the past, it would never have been our choice but the older women in our families who would choose what would be marked upon our skin.
A community expression and not an individual desire.
Our tattoo’s connect us to our family and our ancestors and help define our roles in the community.
Beauty is only part of what the tattoo reveals to those that see our markings. Our tattoos are more than skin deep.” - julia
