I have a theory regarding Arthur's disapearance:

So we know that Arthur has been missing for 15 years, and that Fantoccio has been trapped for the same amount of time.

We also know that Dimitri puts other people in danger to make himself look like a hero.

I think that Dimitri put some sort of curse on the town where Fantoccio is trapped, intending to "heroicly" reverse it and save everyone. However, he wasnt able to undo said curse and fled, leaving the town's inhabitants cursed. Arthur went there to try to undo the curse, or at least save the people who weren't (yet) affected by it. Arthur never came back and is presumed to have died there.
