𝓫𝓮𝓼𝓽-𝓵𝓪𝓲𝓭 𝓹𝓵𝓪𝓷𝓼

the room was dimly lit, the flickering light bulb above casting a dull yellow glow over the chaos of fast food wrappers and old newspapers scattered across the floor. billy paced back and forth, his jaw clenched, hands gripping his gelled back hair like he was trying to keep his head from exploding. stu sat cross-legged on the worn-out couch, eyes wide, watching billy like a kid waiting for his favorite cartoon to start.

“this is ridiculous,” billy snapped, his voice sharp enough to cut glass. “every part of the plan is falling apart. the calls aren’t scary enough, the mask is stupid, and—” he gestured wildly toward the table where the voice changer lay, “—this piece of crap doesn’t even work half the time!”

stu tilted his head, his mouth curling into a lazy grin. “aw, come on, billy-boy. it’s not that bad. we scared that chick last week pretty good. you saw her face when-”

“shut up, stu,” billy growled, stopping his pacing to glare at him. “you’re not helping.”

stu blinked, his grin faltering for a second before bouncing right back. “hey, don’t bite my head off. i’m just saying, maybe you need to chill a little. you’re all… grrr.” he curled his hands like claws and growled in what he thought was an intimidating way.

billy rolled his eyes so hard it was a wonder they didn’t get stuck. “you’re impossible, you know that?”

stu leaned back against the couch, kicking his feet a little like a restless kid. he watched billy storm around the room some more, muttering curses under his breath, and an idea sparked in his head. a stupid idea. but stu loved stupid ideas.

billy had just thrown his hands up in frustration when stu sprang to his feet, his grin widening. “alright, grumpy pants, time for some drastic measures.”

“what the hell are you—” billy started, but stu was already lunging at him.

his fingers darted out, poking at billy’s sides. “tickle attack!” stu yelled gleefully, his voice bouncing off the walls of the small room.

billy froze, his eyes going wide with shock. “stu, stop!” he barked, his voice low and dangerous.

but stu wasn’t deterred. he wiggled his fingers against billy’s ribs, laughing like a maniac. “come on, billy, laugh a little! it’s good for the soul!”

billy’s expression darkened, his lips pressed into a thin line, but then—there it was. a crack in the armor. the tiniest twitch at the corner of his mouth.

“stu, i swear to god—” billy’s voice was strained, but it wavered, like he was trying way too hard to keep it steady.

stu grinned triumphantly. “oh, i see it! you’re cracking, man!” he doubled down, his hands darting to billy’s sides and then his stomach, relentless and annoyingly enthusiastic.

finally, billy let out a sound that was somewhere between a growl and a chuckle. it wasn’t much, but stu latched onto it like a dog with a bone.

“there it is! i knew you could do it!” stu crowed, his hands still moving.

“stu, stop!” billy’s voice was louder now, and he shoved at stu’s hands, but there was no real force behind it.

“not until you laugh for real!” stu sang, poking billy’s ribs again.

and then it happened—a sharp, short burst of laughter escaped billy’s lips, followed by a frustrated groan. “you’re the worst,” he muttered, but the corners of his mouth were twitching.

stu finally backed off, throwing his hands up like he’d just won a championship. “victory!” he declared, flopping back onto the couch with a satisfied sigh.

billy rubbed at his sides, glaring at stu, but there was something softer in his eyes now, something almost amused. “you’re an idiot,” he said, but there was no heat behind it.

“yeah, but i’m your idiot,” stu shot back, grinning from ear to ear.

billy shook his head, letting out a long sigh. “next time, just leave me alone.”

“nope,” stu said, popping the ‘p.’ “next time, i’m going straight for the armpits.”

billy groaned, but this time, there was the faintest hint of a smile on his face.
