    “shit shit shit shit shit ,” she mumbled as a mantra . while cambrie’s original plan was to slip through the exit of the club unnoticed , it derailed once she caught sight of the flashing lights just beyond the front doors . in hindsight , she really shouldn’t be that surprised . it was the most popular club in town . the only reason she even bothered to show up was because someone convinced her that it was a party she wouldn’t want to miss if she intended to maintain any kind of social life as a somebody in new york . so she was careful to show up , act social , down a few drinks , and avoid being caught by any cameras while getting sloppy on the dance floor– there couldn’t be any evidence that she was acting so out of character . there was a specific curated image she liked to present via social media and it was not one of a reveler . though her current situation clearly juxtaposed that . normally bright brown eyes held a certain haziness as she stands barefoot , gripping on to her heels , after stumbling one too many times through the crowd of people . her words slur together as she turned to the nearest person , a look of pleading on her face . “okay can you , like , be cool for me ? like just be cool … i gotta get out of ‘ere but , like , not be seen by them ,” she hastily flings an arm out to gesture towards the paparazzi outside . “so , like , how can we make that happen ?”

            juni  ,  a  self  proclaimed  club  connoisseur  ,  was  bored  .  maybe  she  overdid  it  with  the  club  scene  in  recent  weeks  ,  but  it’s  not  her  fault  .  as  the  party  friend  ,  juni  finds  herself  accepting  invitations  to  go  out  even  if  she’s  already  snuggled  herself  into  bed  .  it’s  essentially  what  brought  her  to  this  current  moment  ,  where  she’s  pressed  into  the  corner  of  a  vip  section  with  too  many  vips  and  not  enough  margaritas  .  while  attempting  to  entertain  herself  by  making  out  with  some  billionaire’s  son  who  bragged  too  much  about  whatever  dumb  one  -  of  -  one  luxury  car  his  father  bought  him  (  so  suffice  it  to  say  that  kissing  him  was  enough  to  shut  him  up  for  ten  good  minutes  )  .  in  short  ,  juni  is  ready  to  leave  and  she’s  praying  for  any  form  of  escape  .  her  escape  from  this  boring  party  comes  in  the  form  of  cambrie  ,  and  she  could  have  gotten  down  on  her  knees  to  thank  the  other  woman  if  she  knew  there  weren’t  ...  substances  lingering  around  .  ‘  ew  ,  ’  juni  says  when  she  cranes  her  neck  to  see  the  flashing  lights  just  past  the  doors  of  the  club  .  every  time  the  door  opens  ,  the  lights  get  brighter  ,  and  although  she  doesn’t  have  an  outright  issue  with  paparazzi  ,  she  knows  how  annoying  they  can  be  .  ‘  do  they  ever  get  enough  ?  ’  the  boy  underneath  her  speaks  ,  and  juni  rolls  her  eyes  while  shoving  his  forehead  and  standing  from  his  lap  .  ‘  i  am  cool  .  i’m  always  cool  ,  ’  there’s  a  soft  sparkle  in  her  eye  .  ‘  the  best  course  of  action  would  be  leaving  from  the  backdoor  .  i  know  the  chef  .  they’ll  let  us  through  .  ’  juni  gently  wraps  her  hand  around  cambrie’s  wrist  ,  and  motions  for  her  to  follow  .  with  her  lilac  backed  phone  pressed  to  her  ear  ,  juni  calls  her  driver  with  instructions  on  where  to  meet  them  .  ‘  you  don’t  know  how  happy  i  am  to  run  into  you  .  this  party  was  getting  exhausting  .  ’

            ‘  no  phone  for  at  least  two  hours  on  self  -  care  days  .  during  that  time  i’ll  do  a  face  mask  ,  a  bubble  bath  ,  and  fully  read  a  magazine  .  i’ll  order  a  favorite  food  of  mine  and  listen  to  my  favorite  playlist  .  sometimes  i  will  call  my  parents  .  they  don’t  live  that  far  from  me  ,  but  i  love  calling  them  because  they’re  always  doing  something  .  just  last  week  they  were  wine  drunk  in  the  kitchen  and  for  whatever  reason  ,  attempting  to  bake  a  wedding  cake  from  scratch  .  it  was  the  best  thing  i’ve  seen  in  weeks  .  ’
