Updating the Richmond News "Stock" photo files
Got to wander around again, we needed shots of crowds and people that were coming to and from the train station, walking down the street, etc

Another case of "making something boring interesting"
There was a CPR demonstration in Richmond for Good Turn Week, a week sponsored by Scouts Canada to promote and encourage people to do good deeds, be it helping an elderly person with groceries, donating blood or learning CPR.
I used what I learned at the Chapters closing to my advantage, the bodies on the floor made a great – albeit weird – pattern, and I wanted to exploit it, I shot wide and from high up but there was little or no light, nothing opening a door and windows could solve.

Making Something From Nothing
A Chapters in Richmond is closing down, which isn't very newsy or interesting, nor is it a hard hitting documentary. It's our job as visual journalists to make that "boring" stuff pop, I don't think I did a very good job with this assignment but I did deliver by deadline which is all we can ask for in a fast paced environment.
Nobody at Chapters could talk, every employee spat out the same corporate PR sentance – "Unfortunatley, I cannot comment on the closing of our store, all questions should be directed to our head office in Toronto at 416...yadda yadda yadda."
That also made it a challenge to get more information, these photos were shot at around 3:00pm PDT, meaning the office in Toronto would be closed so information was hard to get a hold of.

Richmond’s children were out hunting for easter eggs this year but at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery, it isn't the easter bunny that leaves out the sweets but the Easter Salmon who leaves plastic eggs and foam salmon for the kids at the 120 year old Steveston heritage site.
Saturday morning was a prime time to search in all the nooks and crannies of the cannery as well as learning about our provincial and national heritage – especially for the adults whom most had a cup of coffee in hand while their little ones scurried about the cannery.
“This is our first time at the cannery for Easter,” said Sharleen [last name held], who was here with her two year old son, Bradley, “He’s having a lot of fun, I know he’s enjoying himself,” she smiled.
Bradley wasn’t the only one having a blast in the cannery, about another dozen children were all hunting for the Easter Salmon’s eggs and about the same number of adults followed them around herding them to the treats and away from the other children.
The Gulf of Georgia Cannery wasn't the only place in Richmond that was celebrating easter. The Easter bunny visited a number of community centers throughout the city, South Arm Community Center, Thompson Community Center and West End Community Center all got visits from the bunny itself and hosted games as well as arts and crafts activities for kids to enjoy after chowing down on chocolate.
