* help a buddy out

( * it would have been almost a crime for jongin to not sign up to at least one dance workshop at the summer camp, so there he was at the moment, doing his best to keep up with the tutoring and learn something that would aid him in his trainee life. the fact that baekhyun himself was there too may or may not have been another reason for jongin’s enthusiasm, and after the first hour of being taught, jongin takes advantage of having more freedom during the class to approach the older boy. ) how are you holding up, hyung? ( * he’s slightly out of breath but there’s a smile on his lips, the one gentle smile that is reserved for his favourite hyung right there. the instructor was currently on the other side of the room, helping one of the beginners out, so jongin figured it should be fine to have a quick chat with another participant over the workshop - totally not just an excuse to talk to baekhyun there, not at all. ) hip hop is fun, huh?

HELLO GUESS WHO’S BACK IN TOWN IT’S NINI (and that jackass taeyong)  i’ve actually been back from vacation for a full week now BUT i was dead af and also i didn’t have access to wifi on my laptop the past two days so i took profit of my hiatus to stay a little longer away bUT I THINK I’M RECOVERED AND READY 2 RETURN (hopefully my muses cooperate too) i’ll try to  get back on track with rookies today and all and also hopefully Finally reply to IMs on taeyong ( im so sorry everyone omg) but yes!!! here i am love me!!!

* hiatus!

so i’m putting jongin and taeyong on hiatus because i’m going to seoul tomorrow and i’m obviously not taking my laptop so i won’t be around much! ;; i’ll be back on july 9th tho, so i’ll be back around when i’m not jetlagged out of my mind anymore HAHA

he nods at her, smile growing on his lips as her words definitely lifted up his mood. it was good to know he wasn’t the only one thinking the same way, and given as jongin’s shy nature made it rather difficult for him to be able to approach people and make friends, he was seeing this situation with a positive green light. he didn’t want to suddenly latch onto yuri and be dependent or anything of the matter, but it was nice to know that he could at least approach her if needed during class.

“oh- well, i started taking ballet classes at age four.” he says with a fond smile, the memories all very dear to his heart. “i pretty much remained with ballet my whole childhood, and then i started growing interest in other styles and taking a few classes or workshops here and there, but never anything as serious as ballet.” he shrugs, sheepish from her compliment. “i mostly just practice freestyle in front of my mirror nowadays, so really, my technique is pretty, well.. not professional at all.” he laughs a little. “did you take classes, too?”

“I agree.” she smiles at jongin’s admittance that he was feeling the same way, comforted to have such knowledge. it was nice that neither of them really had to experience being new alone, because they really did have each other to fall back on if needed.

yuri laughs with him and nods. “definitely. especially since we’re both more dancers than anything,” she smiles and continues “i think we’ll end up taking the same lessons in the end run.” looking at jongin, he doesn’t seem at first the kind of person yuri would regularly associate with, and not in a bad way, but as she noticed and paid attention to him, she realized that he was a good person, just as determined, if not more, than she was.

“where did you learn to dance, by the way? you have great technique.”

jongin smiles an amused smile at yeri’s words, figuring that only she would take such details into account. jongin personally never even thought about the size of the mirror or whether or not there were any inches left, but it was amusing and rather understandable that yeri would take that into consideration. guess from now on jongin won’t have any other choice but to start noticing those details too, just because she just pointed it out.

“yes, well- i plan to, at least.” jongin says with a smile and a shrug, slowly twirling on himself to get another view of the whole room. he could definitely imagine himself spending a lot of hours just practicing in there, and honestly, that thought made him happy.

he looks back at yeri at her answer on the teachers and he nods a little. “yeah, it makes sense.” he smiles a little, because he’s aware that the whole image and charisma side to an idol is just as important as their actual singing and dancing talents, so he figured it was normal those would be taken into consideration in a combined manner. he just hoped he’d be able to live up to expectations. 

“ah, but you’ve been here longer.” his smile widens, sweet and sincere. “we can both learn from each other, right?”

she nodded, looking at the room in a kind of proud way. yeri had never actually seen the dance studios at the other companies, but her pride made it impossible for her to think of kt’s as anything less than the very best. “i hate when the mirrors don’t reach the ground.” she walked in, twirling around in a flippant kind of way. “it’s annoying when it’s just one inch above. so close but yet so far.

not that dance studios had much variety, but she was still thoroughly convinced that this was the best.

“you probably spend a lot of time here, right?” it was only natural for dancers to be drawn to studios like this, and there was a kind of comfort that she felt just being here. it helped her focus ( as much as she really could — yeri’s attention span had never been good ).

she considered his question, thinking of the best way to explain the trainers at kt. they were definitely harsh — more harsh than any yeri had in her lifetime, but it was of a different strain that ballet teachers. “they’re harsh but…” she paused, not exactly keen on scaring jongin away on the first day. “they’re really focused on our image when we’re dancing…if that makes sense.”

“anyways, i’m sure you’ll do better than me. you’re a better dancer.”

“i think it’s the same for me, really. but it’s been fun.” he admits with a soft chuckle, proving himself right in the sense that he was certain yuri would be able to relate to his newbie-trainee-struggles. the first days ought to be crazy to everyone, and he’s certain it’s all just a matter of (hopefully short) time until they adjust, but there’s something reassuring in knowing he isn’t alone in  this first experience.

“i figured it would be nice to have a chat about this, you know, since we’re both kinda in the same situation.” he shrugs, perhaps a tad sheepishly so, but the gentle smile remains. “plus we didn’t really have that many opportunities to get to know each other during the mgas, so i guess now we have all the time to make up to it.” he adds with another small laugh, honestly hoping he wasn’t just making the situation awkward.

he’s not very good at reading people and tell when they’re genuinely interested in what he has to say or not, but yuri has been nothing but kind and nice to him so he figures he must be doing something right here. well, at least he does hope so.

when he approaches her after practice she smiles, recognizing that he must have been thinking along the same frame of thoughts as she had. “ahh well,” she laughs, screwing the cap back on her water bottle “it’s crazy but i think it’s going alright so far. how about you?”

jongin’s attention was fully captured by the simple words of ‘dance studio’ and if yeri had been worried about him falling asleep, then there was definitely nothing to worry about anymore. jokes aside, jongin only ever really falls asleep around yeri when he’s awfully exhausted; there’s just something about the younger that always has his attention no matter what she’s doing. she’s lovely, simple enough, and jongin enjoys her company too much to waste it with naps.

he allows her to keep on leading the way, eyeing his surroundings as they walk in a way to familiarise himself more with the building. it was going to take time, that was for sure, but at least he’s certain every other trainee has gone through this. that, plus he can always text or call yeri in situations of Distress, so it was definitely better than being in a foreign place where you don’t know anyone.

“oh-” there’s a smile that spreads gently on his lips as he steps in the studio, taking a good look around the one room he’s certain he’d spend more time at. “it is pretty.” he says with a nod, eyeing himself in the wall-sized mirror before looking around once more. truth be told, all dance studios end up looking more or less the same, give or take decoration, but there’s just this certain beauty in their essence that probably came from jongin’s dancing passion. it made him feel more at ease, somehow. “it’s pretty big too.” he adds, looking back at yeri with the smile not leaving his lips. “are the dance teachers harsh here?”

“don’t worry, you’ll figure it out soon enough. i mean, i did.” yeri was never touted for her sense of direction, after all. she opened the door to the room, showing it proudly to jongin as she stepped into it. “look, isn’t it pretty?”

( *— jongin scrunches up his nose a little as baekhyun didn’t seem to give up, but then again, he is perfectly aware that when his best friend gets his mind set on something, he just won’t let it go again. a hand moves to gently run through baekhyun’s hair, affection coming without much thought to it as his own gaze returned to the mobile screen, watching the notification tell them the app had been successfully installed. )

( *— his brows furrow a little because right, that’s a big part of social media - as well as a really distressing one for jongin. he’s not good with names, much less usernames, and he had gone through hell and back to come up with one for twitter that he didn’t even remember anymore. ) i don’t know, uh-

( *— but a glance down shows him that baekhyun is alreaady typing in something without even waiting for jongin to think (again, typical baekhyun), and a huffed laugh falls from his lips in amusement as he reads over the typed word. ) jongnini? really? ( *— he chuckles in disbelief, but doesn’t really fight baekhyun on the matter. nini was kind of a family pet name that eventually spread to his closer friends, but it wasn’t really something jongin would use in public; guess baekhyun was about to change that. )
