Days 11, 12, & 13: Grand Canyon (Day 2),Four Corners, Route 66 Museum, and Return Trip
Monday, March 26, 2018 Well, today is Monday, May 29, 2023 and Iām just now discovering that Iād never finished this the blog posts from this trip back in 2018. History lost, I guess. At this point, I canāt remember many of the details from these last two days. So Iāll let the pictures tell the stories for the most part. I know that on Monday, March 26, we returned to the Grand Canyon in theā¦

Day 10: Grand Canyon (Day 1)

Sunday, March 25, 2018
Up and at āem! Up at 4am and out the door by about 5:15 or so for about a 5 hour drive to Flagstaff AZ for worship. We left thinking rhat we were going to make it with about 10 minutes to spare. But when the time updated when crossing into AZ, it occurred to me that Arizona doesnāt change time for daylight savings. So we gained an hour. That was a relief.
So far Iād beenā¦

Day 9: Heading Home
Day 9: HeadingĀ Home
Man the sleep was good last night. I fell asleep at probably 9:30 or so and didnāt wake up until after 7:00.
We were off to worship with the congregation at Glen Oaks. Very friendly group. One fellow in particular, Alan, was very entertaining. As we were leaving he wanted to make sure that Zach and Eli met the eligible bachleorettes. Iām sure these girls were mortified. Sorry ladies, no Loveā¦

Day 8: Library of Congress, Leaving DC
Day 8: Library of Congress, LeavingĀ DC
Saturday, March 23, 2019
Last day in DC. ā¹ļø This morning we packed up, cleaned the house a bit, got ready and headed out. Local McDonaldās for breakfast since we were pretty much out of cereal. And we were on the road at about 9:45 or so. It was a quick 20 minutes to our parking spot in DC (the light weekend traffic was nice).
Weather was nice today. Still some wind making it colder, but the sunā¦

Day 7: Arlington, Pentagon, and Memorials at Night
Friday, March 22, 2019
This was the longest day of the trip so far. As far as transportation goes it would be a combo drive/metro day. We took off from the house at our normal time of 9am. With the traffic it took about 45 minutes to get into town. We parked the van and walked to the nearest Metro station, Foggy Bottom / George Washington University (GWU). We charged the Metro cards with someā¦

Day 6: National Gallery of Art, The White House, and Botanical Gardens
Thursday, March 21, 2019
Okay. Lots of rain today. That was definitely the part that made the day very interesting. Earlier in the week we learned that there would be a 90-100% chance of rain from 3am this morning until about 4am tomorrow morning. So, about $100 in an emergency umbrellas purchase at Target last night and we are lured into thinking that itāll be a great day for sightseeing. Letāsā¦

DC Area Transportation
I just wanted to add a little bit more information about our experiences getting around the DC area. I remember from our family trip in high school that we took a train from the Indianapolis area to DC and then got around to the different sites on public transportation (the buses and the subway mostly). This was the original plan for our trip this week ā to leave our van parked here and getā¦

Day 5: National Archives, FBI Building Tour, and Museum of the Bible
This morning we had a little break from the norm and decided to take the subway into town and leave the van at home. It ended up being a costly decision as the subway system is not that cheap to ride for our little family of 7. But it was quite and adventure and we wanted to make it part of our experience. We parked the van at the Greenbelt Station which was the beginning of the Green Line andā¦

Day 4: Capitol Tours and Mt. Vernon / Alexandria
Left the house this morning at 8:15. Traffic this morning was pretty crazy and added about 10 minutes to our drive into the metro DC. Finding the reserved parking spot was a little hectic. Should have left at 8:00. But in the end it was okay. We did end up hoofing it to the Capitol Building from our parking spot to make our first appointment.

We had reservations to meet with Senator Cruzā,ā¦

Day 3: DC Area Bus Tour
Still a little artichoke funk this morning. But not as bad. I think we all slept pretty well last night. Zach snd Eli went for a run this morning. Once we all got showered and dressed we were off to the races.
Little bit of traffic into town, but not that bad. It took about 35 minutes to make it to LāEnfant Plaza where we would catch the bus. This tour we signed up for was with DC Trails.

Day 2: Church, Smithsonian Museums, National Mall
Our day started with visiting a local congregation which is always a pleasure. You never know who youāre going to meet and who knows who. āItās not a small world, itās just a big familyā as one person put it to me once. We did actually end up seeing a couple who worshiped with us at Southport for a little while who was in town visiting their son. Also, the man who preached that morning is theā¦

Travel From Home to DC Area
Travel From Home to DCĀ Area
Up and at āem! The plan today was to leave at 7am and to expect about 12 hours on the road. Driving time was approximately 9 hours or so and we expected to make several stops along the way. All in all it was a pretty easy drive. I-70E out of Indianapolis, through Ohio and into Wheeling WV, into Pennsylvania just south of Pittsburg. I-79S into Maryland to I-68 and I-70 into the DC area.

Bryce Canyon National Park

Friday, March 23, 2018
This is another park that Sonya and I both were very anxious to return to and to show our kids. The drive was only about an hour from the ranch. It started off with rain and turned into snow the higher up we climbed. We were worried about the weather at first, but the weather warmed up and the day ended up being great.
After getting to the park taking a picture at the parkā¦
