OTTAWA COMICON 2019
Rather than sketch covers this year, I did larger size commissions and picked up an original page of Alpha Flight, Vol 1, issue 44. Let's start with the commissions.
Mike Zeck did this wonderful Captain America head sketch... note the side-eye!
Mike Grell did this pencil sketch of Nightwing. I love the energy on this piece.
David Lloyd was doing basically free quick sketches of Guy Fawkes. David was the artist on V for Vendetta... yes that one, written by Alan Moore and the basis for the movie of the same name.
Dave Ross is a legendary Marvel artist who did a long run on Alpha Flight and West Coast Avengers. I picked up the last page of original art that he had from his Alpha Flight run plus got this beautiful and dynamic commission of Puck, Sasquatch and Guardian. I love the composition of this piece and all the technique he used to make it pop!
I can't pass up getting a commission fro. Marco Rudy. He told me once that Daredevil and Silver Surfer are faves of his... so I asked for a Silver Surfer and told him I wouldn't mind if he squeezed in a Galactus. Never imagined this beautiful piece in acrylics would be the result!
Finally, there is this piece from Tom Fowler. There are not words to describe his genius. Martian Manhunter looks amazing and (almost) ready to get down to business. Love his face and the knee on the left! The composition of showing Wonder Woman and Hawkgirl in the background as J'onn J'onzz reconstitutes himself after an explosion is brilliant and stunning in the result. This piece is about as quintessential Fowler as any superhero piece can be!

FanExpo 2018
Bob McLeod is the co-creator of the New Mutants and a gentleman. He picked Thor as the sketch he wanted to do and the results are as classic as Bob is.
Sana Takeda is the Eisner award winning artist on Monstress, written by the also Eisner award winning Marjorie Liu. They worked together on X-23 and Sana was kind enough to do this sketch which Marjorie also signed. If you are not reading Monstress you are missing out on an important book!
I had been wanting to get something from Johnny Desjardins for some time but it never worked out timing wise until this year. He chose to do a Hulk in watercolour and the results are stunning!
The legendary Brian Stelfreeze painted this amazing or should I say FANTASTIC Invisible Woman... the man is a true master and genius!
Finally, one of the hottest new artists, Dylan Burnett, on one of the hottest books, Cosmic Ghost Rider, did this Cosmic Ghost Rider sketch... it is pretty awesome!

Tom Fowler did this great piece featuring Logan and Laura for me at Ottawa Comicon in 2017. It turned out great despite the fact that this blank cover had the worst paper stock EVER!

Here are the sketches from FanExpo this summer in Toronto... some familiar artists and some new!
First up is this piece by the amazing Adam Gorham... I have no words to express my appreciation for all that he put into this. It is simply stunning!
The legend Steve McNiven did this sweet head sketch.
The brilliant Tyler Jenkins (currently doing Grass Kings with Matt Kindt) tells an entire story in this piece featuring the Shadow and Batman
Mike Rooth went above and beyond with this amazing piece featuring the main character from God Country, Emmet Quinlan
Marcus To brings energy and dynamic lines to this Havok piece
Jae Lee delivers brilliance with this piece featuring the Hulk and Amadeus Cho... the lines and emotion are amazing!
Ray Fawkes (Underwinter and Ragman) shows us the monster that is inside Morbius.
Dylan Burnett is my favourite new artist (check out Weavers and his upcoming Reactor) and he owns this Punisher piece... the face on this guy... blows my mind.
Michael Walsh is one my fave artists and he shows audacity and confidence in bringing elegance and simplicity of line to this great Spider-Gwen piece.
Shawn Crystal (Mother Panic, Arkham Manor) said this character is why he draws comics... and this cover is why I love his art!
Yanick Paquette is a Canadian icon and his run on Swamp Thing is legendary.
Johnnie Christmas is classy and cool (read Sheltered, Pisces and Angel & Catbird) and he shows his chops with this wonderful Winter Soldier.
Craig Yeung has inked pretty much the best comics over the last decade (Runaways anyone) and his pencil work is gorgeous!
Last but not least is Big Blue, Supes, the one and only Superman by the legend Kevin Maguire.

Ottawa Comiccon 2016
Tom Fowler delivered this amazing Doctor Strange cover. He is a genius with a paint brush! Full picture of the wrap around cover followed by scans of the front (top) and back (bottom):
Next up is a Bishop and Storm cover by the co-creator of Bishop, Whilce Portacio (@WhilcePortacio). Since I don’t have a large scanner here is a picture of the full cover followed by scans of the front and back.
Next is a cover of my favourite character - Dick Grayson - by the amazing Marcus To (@marcusto). I am not ashamed to admit it took everything in me not to burst out crying when I saw it. As with the above, camera pic, followed by scans of front and back *sniff*
I always enjoy seeing Mike Rooth (@uncouthRooth) at a con - super nice guy that is as nice as his beard. I let him pick whatever he wanted and he choose a Micronauts cover and did this amazing Acroyear!
Last year Eric Talbot (@talbot_eric) did an amazing TMNT cover for me so this year I asked him to do a Batman/Turtle mash-up… below is the superb result.
Dave Ross does some of the tightest pencils I have ever seen Here is a pencil and ink Iron Man - he also has a book out on drawing that every artist really ought to get!

Sketches from my first con in 2013
The very first cover I ever commissioned was from Nick Bradshaw, currently doing covers for Justice League and other DC titles:
Dave Ross did an Avengers cover in pencil... they are a little light so I darkened the scan.
I was lucky enough to meet George Perez and got three pieces from him. The first was a Wonder Woman sketch for my daughter:
Had to get a Thanos with the Infinity Gauntlet:
and finally, a Scarlet Witch!
Kelly Tindall did this Adventure Time sketch for my youngest daughter... it hangs in her bedroom to this day!

Ottawa Comiccon 2015
Once again managed to get some amazing covers done by some amazing artists.
Tom Fowler did the following Star Wars cover - and it is the greatest Star Wars cover ever!
This baby is so good, it deserves a closer look at the front and back covers:
Dave Ross did the pencils and Joe Rubinstein did the inks on this Daredevil, simple, clean, classic and legendary:
Mike Rooth can do no wrong when it comes to a blank comic book cover and this is one fearsome Doom:
Next up is a re-imagining of the Green Goblin by Ian Churchill:
Nick Bradshaw came up with this neat image to tie together the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Ghostbusters:
TMNT artist extraordinaire - Eric Talbot - re-imagined a new look for the turtles: no mask, but with a hood:
Next up is a gorgeous Batgirl sketch by Marco Rudy (if you want to see a young artist taking risks then you need to check out Marco’s art on Bucky Barnes: The Winter Soldier, written by Ales Kot):
Richard Pace brought Wolverine back to life (or at least Logan) with this colourful and fluid piece on the cover of Wolverines 1:
Last but not least, the artistic genius of Yanick Paquette is on display with this watercolour of Superman infected by the Doomsday virus:

I have been meaning to post these for some time now. I wasn’t able to go to this con, but a friend of mine did and picked the following up for me.
This cool Thor painting is by Esad Ribic (@eribic).
I really enjoyed Kaare Andrews’ (@kaareandrews) Iron Fist The Living Weapon run (he has a new creator-owned book out now - Renato Jones: The 1%, you should probably buy it). He did this quick head sketch for free.
Dustin Nguyen (@duss005) did this quick Superman head sketch. He has this amazing series out now with Jeff Lemire - Descender. It is simply beautiful.
Micheal Walsh (@Mister_Walsh) did this quick Storm cover. Mike’s work on Secret Avengers and X-Men: The Worst X-Man Ever have made me a fan for life of his.

Marcus To (@marcusto) - currently drawing Nightwing - did this beautiful pen & ink of Sabretooth.
