He can’t quite remember how old he is anymore - not like it matters - but when he meets Jisoo, it matters quite a lot.
He is old though. Much more older than he appears.
Junhui was there in the first war, a newborn created to fight - created to burn and ravage villages. He can’t remember who his creator was or who his fellow comrades were and he doesn’t want to either. He left that life behind him a long time ago.
Now he’s blending in with humans, only feeding when necessary and he has found quite a number of alternatives, but he does not entertain them until Jisoo takes his hand and leads him onto the right path.
Nothing ever mattered to him until he met Jisoo anyway.
Tumblr media
Jisoo has never met anyone as pretty as Junhui.
He is Minghao's friend, someone who has only just transferred to their university. It is the same program that allowed Minghao to study here and Jisoo can't actually remember how the two even know each other, but Minghao has mentioned him often enough in passing that Jisoo never really stopped to think about it.
Not until he came face to face with him at least.
Minghao is giving him a weird look, the one that usually means Jisoo is making a face he does not approve of, but it isn't like Jisoo can control that. His face does whatever it likes and has never once listened to Jisoo when he's tried to stop it.
Junhui is staring at him too and Jisoo knows that he is, but he's too nervous to meet his gaze.
When Minghao introduced them and their eyes met, it felt like electricity had sparked in between them. Junhui had gone very, very still and froze, looking as if he had stopped breathing, only recovering when Minghao jabbed him in the side with his elbow. Jisoo had immediately looked away, his entire body tingling with a sense of anticipation.
Jisoo had no idea what he was expecting to happen, but it is not like he knew at that moment Junhui had finally found his mate.
Tumblr media
It becomes quickly apparent to Jisoo afterward that Junhui is not human.
He is much too pretty, too graceful when he moves and there are a few moments when Jisoo thinks Junhui is using very outdated lingo but he has no idea how to confirm it. Junhui is too much of everything really and yet Jisoo still finds himself playing along with the flirting anyway.
Junhui seeks him out - between classes, on campus, at parties, etc. - and sidles up beside him, making his presence known. He smiles wide, his teeth glinting in any kind of lighting they tend to find themselves in and then cracks a joke.
Jisoo doesn't think he's very funny, but Junhui is trying hard and he's never had anyone pursue him like this before. Jisoo has never actually had anyone pursue him before actually, but if Jeonghan's stories are anything to go by, then Jisoo is doing a far better job than anyone who has shown interest in Jisoo's best friend.
That does not mean that Jisoo will give in so easily though. He is a grown man who is far away from home, but he is not gullible. He smiles and nods and chuckles politely at Junhui's jokes and does nothing more than that.
It is nice to have someone show interest in him so openly, Jisoo can admit that.
However, just because he's never been kissed before does not mean that he'll swallow down everything Junhui says and bend over backward for him. Jisoo has standards and his lack of experience in everything related to this does not affect that fact.
Of course, there's also the matter that Junhui is not human, which only fuels the mysterious aura about him that Jisoo can't quite pinpoint.
Junhui is kind, polite, and cute, but when they are alone sometimes, their gazes will meet and a look of hunger will shine back at Jisoo in his eyes. Jisoo will gulp and take a step back, fear and arousal clogging his throat. Junhui's eyes will clear up right away after that and then he'll crack another joke just to clear the tense and awkward atmosphere.
Jisoo does not know why someone like Junhui, an exquisite creature who Jisoo is sure could pick any one of his choosing, is interested so much in a person like him, but it feels good to be wanted.
He's relatively boring when compared to anyone else. He's not a bad catch, that much he'll admit to, but Jisoo is certain there is a reason why no one has ever tried flirting with him until now. Junhui can't be human if he's somehow attracted to Jisoo of all people.
Being honest is what Jisoo is good at and he's never made it a habit of lying to himself, even when the truth is not kind, but it is as it is and Jisoo cannot change that. If he lied to himself then there would be no point for Jisoo to be truthful with others like he has been thus far. If Jisoo cannot trust himself, then he cannot trust anyone else either.

Seungcheol's hand is running a steady trail up Jeonghan's thigh.
The tv is quickly losing against Seungcheol for Jeonghan's attention and honestly, Jeonghan doesn't have a clue about how much he can take anymore.
It doesn't help that they aren't the only ones here on the couch and it seriously doesn't help that the only other person here with them is Seungcheol's boyfriend.
Seungcheol's going to be the death of him.
Tumblr media
When Jeonghan first met Seungcheol, it was in the university's library.
It was like every cliche scene in every chick flick his younger sister had made him watch when they were in middle school. The girl is reaching for a book when the boy grabs the book she wanted and wags it in her face as bait to talk to him. The girl pretends to be unimpressed while squealing on the inside about how hot the boy is. The boy is cocky and arrogant and is always later revealed to have a hidden tattoo that no one knows about and Jeonghan literally hated his life in the moment that Choi Seungcheol swiped the book Jeonghan needed for a presentation right from underneath his nose.
Seungcheol had leered him, looking him up and down and Jeonghan had the fight the urge to smooth his long hair back. He definitely hadn't looked his best on that day, but Seungcheol had flirted with him anyway and Jeonghan had merely rolled his eyes. He turned on his heel and retreated to his table then, groaning quietly under his breath when Seungcheol followed after him, even going as far as taking a seat at his table.
Jeonghan had then drowned himself in his project, glaring across the table when Seungcheol used the book he had needed as a fan instead of actually reading it. When Seungcheol noticed his glare, he winked at him and Jeonghan had flushed all the way to the tips of his ears in embarrassment. He'd forced himself to ignore Seungcheol then and declined all his offers of going on a date with him.
But Seungcheol had persisted until the very end and by the time he finally left, the library was closing. Jeonghan had sat back in his chair and rubbed his eyes, tired and worn out more than usual and then blinked when he noticed the book he had needed earlier sitting on top of his backpack on the table. Jeonghan had gathered his things and checked out the book, not expecting to find a scrap of paper with Seungcheol's name and number fall out later when he was flipping through its pages that night in bed.
Jeonghan still doesn't know what made him text Seungcheol, but he doesn't regret it.
At least, not all the time.
Tumblr media
Jeonghan watches as Seungcheol rolls his sleeves up, his hands finally having left his thigh. He lets himself take a deep breath, his face flushed and the buzz from the television lost on him.
He doesn't know what he's doing here. Honestly, he can't remember why he even bothered to show up tonight. But then he looks down and his gaze immediately lands on Seungcheol's arms. His breath catches in his throat as it always does and Seungcheol looks up with a smirk on his face as he studies Jeonghan's dazed expression.
The tattoos that decorate them are just as breathtaking as the first time Jeonghan saw them and as Seungcheol continues to roll his sleeve up, Jeonghan is thrown into the memory of when he first caught a glimpse of them.
Tumblr media
Jeonghan isn't one for being at a loss for words. He's well-spoken and nags the kids often, but he's never had a problem trying to form coherent sentences.
But honestly, could anybody blame him when he's face-to-face with the Choi Seungcheol?
Or to be more specific, face-to-face with Choi Seungcheol's tattoos. Tattoos he had no idea even existed until this very moment.
They're flowers, mostly unfilled, but a few are splattered to look like they were watercolored into Seungcheol's skin. They cover the expanse of both of his arms and Jeonghan might already be in love with them as much as he's in love with Seungcheol really.
But that's the problem. Jeonghan doesn't know how Seungcheol feels or even if he's gay or not. And so he pines.
He pines hard and he pines hopelessly.
Junhui has made fun of him for it often enough that Jeonghan doesn't even blink an eye by this point whenever it's brought up at their table in the cafeteria.

a/n ; sdfkdj ok so i don’t actually see the enemies to lovers trope working out so well for wonhui really, which is why i’ve been struggling with this au for like a week and a half now, but if anybody is going to hate someone and claim them as their enemy, it’s wonwoo and you can fight me on that. also i’m posting this preview as an apology for not posting anything this week so i hope y’all enjoy this snippet! currently, i have over 3k written and this is merely the opening scene

Tumblr media
"So remind me why you hate him so much?" Jeonghan asks as he spears a piece of lettuce with his fork, frowning with disdain down at the salad Minghao had prepared for him. "Junhui is literally the nicest person to ever exist. Like, nicer than Jisoo even."
Wonwoo looks up from his book, then takes a bite out of his sandwich, pointedly ignoring the older man as he continues with his lunch. Though quite honestly, just the mere mention of Junhui's name is quickly making Wonwoo lose his appetite. Jeonghan notices the way he hesitates to take another bite of his sandwich then smirks a little evilly as Wonwoo sets it down on a napkin in front of him.
If Jeonghan is going to hate his lunch, then Wonwoo will too.
Wonwoo goes back to reading and does his best to ignore the weird twisting knots in his stomach as his stomach strangely gurgles and rumbles. He only looks up again when Jeonghan offers him the majority of his salad, eyes set on Wonwoo's sandwich. Wonwoo takes it, pushing his sandwich forward and then they begin eating again, the light salad making it easy for Wonwoo to continue his lunch.
"Tell me why you hate Jun so much," Jeonghan pipes up out of the blue, eyes set on Wonwoo so as to not miss a single movement.
"Eat your food," Wonwoo says instead, lifting another forkful of the lovingly made salad Minghao had made for his idiot, long-haired boyfriend sat across from him. "I don't know why you won't eat this by the way. Minghao is a genius in the kitchen and even a simple salad tastes like something you'd find in a restaurant. You're insulting his art by not eating the lunches he makes you."
Jeonghan scoffs and flicks his fingers at Wonwoo’s wrist, smiling wide because he knows full well that Wonwoo’s wrists easily bruise. “Don’t change the subject. We're talking about you and Junhui right now, or the lack of you and Junhui I should say.”
Wonwoo sighs and ducks his head, biting into the salad slowly now. “Why do you always ask me about him when I’m trying to relax? I have an exam in like an hour and you’re here, being a dick to me.”
“I just don't understand why you claim to hate Junhui so much!” Jeonghan whines, propping his head upon his hand as he stares unamusedly at Wonwoo. “Junhui is super nice, super cute and I bet you're just super jealous because he dated Mingyu first.”
“Mingyu and I broke up two years ago, get over it,” Wonwoo mumbles. “I hate him because he’s a self-pretentious prick, always acting like he's better than everyone just because he's a child actor. I bet he wasn't even that good in the roles he played!”
Jeonghan tsks at him, taking another bite of Wonwoo’s sandwich before he speaks again. “He wouldn't have gotten any of his roles if he wasn't good. If you haven't even seen one of his movies, then shut up about his acting. Just because you’re used to being the lead role in school plays doesn't mean you shit on someone who you've never even given a chance to.”
Wonwoo remains silent, quietly fuming as he ponders over when exactly Jeonghan betrayed him and took Junhui's side.
(Though if Wonwoo’s going to be honest with himself, he’s being an unreasonable asshole to Junhui for no solid reason.)
Jeonghan takes another bite of the sandwich as he watches Wonwoo and when he speaks again, Wonwoo wishes he hadn’t. “You know, I bet it's not even jealousy about him getting the lead role. I bet it's just you thinking he’s hot but being too bitter about him upstaging you to actually pursue him and instead just bemoan his entire existence to anyone who gives you the chance.”
Wonwoo hunches into himself, avoiding Jeonghan’s sharp gaze. “Shut up.”
“No, you shut up and get over yourself,” Jeonghan replies immediately. “You’re being a dick to someone who literally cries when a bug is stepped on in front of him. Your complaining about Junhui is getting really annoying.”
“And, if I’m going to be really honest with you Wonwoo, Junhui's stage presence exceeds yours by miles,” Jeonghan adds on when Wonwoo hasn’t said anything, smiling again as Wonwoo gapes at him. "Don't give me that look. It's true. Ask the cast, they'll give you essays on why Junhui got the lead role and you didn't."
Wonwoo looks back down at his salad and forces himself to eat the rest of it, sweeping his books back into his bag as he stands. Jeonghan tilts his head up to watch the younger leave, smiling again when Wonwoo rolls his eyes at him.
"Tomorrow, I'm gonna have lunch with Soonyoung," Wonwoo mumbles as he pushes the bowl and fork Jeonghan's salad had come with back towards his side of the table. "At least he doesn't try to shove Junhui down my throat."
Jeonghan smirks, turning at the waist to watch Wonwoo as he leaves. It's only until Wonwoo has reached the next table that Jeonghan speaks up.
"We both know that you want something of Junhui's down your throat!"
Wonwoo groans and rushes out of the cafeteria, doing his best to ignore the fact that as he rushes past the doors, Junhui is entering. They share a moment of eye contact and then Wonwoo pushes past him, his face flushing red as Junhui stares after him with confusion splashed across his pretty face.
