========================== LOOK OF LOVE ========================== . I have been a little behind on some of my fall sessions but finally got a chance to work on this set. . When Madison Crabtree messaged me about shooting these, she asked about shooting these at Max Patch in Hot Springs, NC...after a quick look I said heck yes let’s do it!! . It was an all day event and getting there was just as fun. Great food, great company and beautiful scenery! . Once we hiked up we were greeted which some spectacular color and amazing views!! . As we worked through several poses and lighting, I had her turn back and look at Reuben Abernathy and it was with this wonderfully happy look of love. . This had to be one of the deepest looks I have ever witnessed and it was as if she was staring at his soul through his eyes...that kinda look! . ================================ FLOW ON BERNABE ROCK ================================ #FallColorTour2019 . From Middle Prong Fork in Gatlinburg, below the hiking trail. . Sometimes there are those in our group that will name certain elements in the wild. I wasn’t around for the naming of this rock, but I can tell ya it is a pretty cool element / focus of the scene. . I love how the flow of the water extends off the rock and crashes back into the flow to move downstream. The bits of beautiful golden color rest in the canopy of trees meanwhile the Rhododendron greenery line the bank in audience of the flow at center stage, and man what a show it was! . ================================ Smokies on November 2, 2019 ================================ . ================================ AUTUMN BURST ================================ #FALLCOLORTOUR2019 On this year’s tour we focused on water flow along Middle Prong Trail. . We started on the trail before sunrise capturing some beautiful images of flow and golden colors of Autumn. . As we headed back down the trail, Travis found a honey hole and I passed him up as I headed back to the parking lot. While enjoying the morning and conversing with hikers as they passed by, the sun peaked through the tree canopy highlighting the stream. . I decided to close down the aperture to bring focus on the sun bursting through. . I love how the ruby colors are centered and framed by the warm golden yellow leaves. Meanwhile, bits of sunlight dapple the water flow at the bottom of the image. . I get drawn into this image and wonder what lies further upstream, but at the same time, I am stopped with the amazement of the canvas that our creator had painted for me this morning. . ================================ Smokies on November 2, 2019 ================================ . ================================ MORNING MIST ON MIDDLE PRONG ================================ #FALLCOLORTOUR2019 This year we kept it close to home and why not, the Great Smoky Mountains are the perfect location for fall color. Only problem is, TRAFFIC sucks. . Travis Rhoads and I headed to Middle Prong Trail to capture some water flow since the water levels were so abundant. . We woke up well before sunrise and made our way to the trail. The air was brisk with plenty of moisture, the temp was around 28 degrees or so. BRRRRR!!!! . Believe it or not, spite living in the back door of this hidden treasure, it was my first time shooting here. I will return! . As I worked my way up the trail this spot seemed to jump out at me. The mist of the morning air was thick as the red and yellow colors of the Autumn leaves. The flow of water crashing around the large boulders created a scene that seemed to overflow and take center stage of the frame. So much that the fall colors were merely accents in the image. . ============================= HUNT FOR YELLOW DOORS ============================= From Mackenzie Crabtree Senior Photo Walk Downtown Knoxville. . I always ask my seniors if there is anything specific they want to include, some do some don't. When I asked this question to Chastity Crabtree and Mackenzie Crabtree, they responded with this awesome yellow door they found on Pinterest ....so the hunt was on. . Since no one posted the exact location we had to just ask around and keep walking until we found this glorious golden door. . Once we found it after Chastity Crabtree asks 4384 people we were able to create an image just before the door was overtaken by the blasting sunlight that was dropping lower in the sky. . ============================= THE RUNWAY ============================= It is so hard picking my favorites from this senior session, but this one could stand on its own. . We explored several streets of Downtown Knoxville and one of favorites was South Gay St. Here we came across the perfect setup with American Flags hanging above top right of the frame, some greenery and bits of color in the planters left of the frame and there is something about the Culture Hair Salon sign that adds so much to this image. . For this I just wanted her to walk towards me naturally and capture just a couple causal pics of here walking. . As she walked towards me, I could see her walking the runway in a fashion show, with a slight breeze in her hair, her heels in her hand and a smile on her face, you couldn't ask for a more perfect model. . ============================= Mackenzie | Senior on August 14, 2019 ============================= . ============================= BREAKING THE RULES ============================= From Mackenzie Crabtree's first session in Downtown Knoxville. . As we were trekking around in the search of a specific location, we came across the cobblestone road in the Old City. As we walked past it...I told her to just go sit in the middle of the road. Keep in mind there's traffic. But really no one wants to hit my big ole butt, lol. . In photography typically the rule is not to center your subject in the center of the frame. However, I thought it was fitting and worked for this image and worthy of breaking the rules....just like Mackenzie did by sitting in the road. . There is a nice contrast between the gritty cobblestone road and the softness she brings to its roughness. Warm light fills the background from the descending sun creating a nice separation of her and the background. You can see things going on in the background, but the focus on her, as it should be! . Mackenzie loves the idea of city life spite living in the country. I tried to portray that in her images, I believe it shows through this image. . ============================= SPUCE FLATS FALLS ============================= Late Friday Evening I got message from my good buddy Travis Rhoads, he and a photog friend from Texas (Alfredo) were heading up from Atlanta to do a short tour of the Smokies. . My schedule was clear so I headed up early, early to meet them. We met just south of Newfound Gap for sunrise. Shortly after sunrise, we headed to Tremont Section of the Great Smoky Mountains and hike up to Spruce Flat Falls. . The hike wasn't too bad ...lol..(really not a bad one) . The somewhat little-known trail is only a 2.0 mile roundtrip but it is of moderate difficulty and includes some steep, rocky sections, particularly the final descent to Spruce Flats Falls itself. . Once you arrive you are greeted with beautiful cascading falls that seem a world away. . ============================= LINING UP ============================= The other day Dodj and I got his 1st of his senior sessions in. While talking with him we discussed plans for after graduation, he's hopes and dreams. This shot came to mind! . As we switched to a new location for this shot, the sun was coming down behind the tree line and bursting a warm golden glow behind him. I asked him to line up his putt. As he positioned himself, the sun hit just in the perfect spot. ================================ ASCENSION TO NOWHERE ================================ #ExpeditionRoan2019 #RoanMountainStatePark . As we headed up our first night to Round Bald on the Appalachian Trail, the weather changed rapidly leaving us with a view of a WALL OF CLOUDS!!. Though this blocked the view for most, it didn't stop people from running around and snapping pictures. After all...they did just hike 3/4 mile up 334'🙂 . Normally when arriving at Round Bald in the distance you see Jane Bald and Grassy Ridge. Not that evening!! . However, I decided to take a couple of shots then hike back. (Didn't want to make a wasted trip, right?) . As I looked through the viewfinder, I saw NOTHING!!!!!!!..Clicked a few and went on. Once I had a few moments to view on a bigger screen I saw the image appear in front of me. . Many times in life we find ourselves excited to get somewhere, then we get there and things are not what they seem..not so great!! . So where does our path lead us? I don't really know the answer to that question, but I do know that having faith, the storm will clear and God's plan and beauty will shine through. . ================================ FLOW AT CATES HOLE ================================ Last chance to create an image from #ExpeditionRoan2019 as I left the cabin for the final time, I pulled over into a small turnout that ended up being one of my better images of the trip. - I had pulled out thinking I was headed to the visitors center (opposite direction) and I noticed this turn out near the creek/river with some light dappling on to it. I had to stop!! - Cates Hole, as the sign read, is on 143 (Road Rd) most people blaze on past it and never see. - Subtle bits of contrasting light entered into the shadows of the creek under the canopy of trees. Of course it helps when you are touring with world class photographers that are such great people too. - Our first morning out though rained out initially, the fog created some light that made our surroundings have a natural ethereal feel to it. - While walking along the trail of The Rhododendron Gardens, small amounts of light filtered through the canopy of the Fir trees and the light dappled the greenery below, highlighting the walkway. =============================== LEMON CONTRAST =============================== Our first morning in Roan Mountain started off with some moist weather (LOL), leaving with some fog that cut visiblity down to almost nothing. - After some breakfast grub from Bob's Dairyland we headed back to basecamp to pack up and headout with the hopes the fog would burn off. - As we pulled up I noticed the Lemon Lily Hemerocallis lilioasphodelus (Thanks Google) or Daylily as most of us here call them, still had some water droplets on them and their bright lemon color was popping against their dark green stems.
