I really like this one as it a classic spiritual battle where an angel is resisting being dragged down by serpent demons. The base is the classic checkerboard which is representative of the cosmic chess match of good vs evil.

Ogoh Ogoh statues are made for the Ngrupuk parade on the day before Nyepi.

The Ngrupuk parade is a fairly recent expression with the first one appearing in Denpasar in the early 1980s. During this time they were carefully monitored for criticism aimed at the Suharto government. The pinnacle of the festivities is where most the statues finally make it down to the beach where they are burnt in a rite of purification. .

He can act a bit prickly if he’s had a few too many. But honestly, if you can put up with some colorful language and the occasional wise crack he’s not a bad bloke to have around. .

Nyepi 2018 in Indonesia will begin at 6:00 AM on Saturday March 17 and conclude the following morning on Sunday 6 AM. All services across the island will be closed  with the only exemption for life threatening medical emergencies. Airport will also be closed.

Of course with all lighting at night not allowed over the entire island the nighttime sky will be just amazing.

  Of course the exodus of ex-pats will begin in earnest on Thursday and Friday morning to surrounding islands.. It is just ridiculous.. Seriously is it that hard to sit through a whole day at home???

On the day after Nyepi, known as Ngembak Geni, social activity picks up again quickly, as families and friends gather to ask forgiveness from one another, and to perform certain religious rituals together.
