I know I’ve made this post before but I’m listening to a documentary series on reproductive healthcare and I CANNOT STAND the ‘your body knows what to do!’ rhetoric about birth that is shoveled at pregnant people. I think it is meant to be empowering and reassuring but that is such a dangerous thing to be telling pregnant people. You see first time parents extremely upset their birth plan failed and they had to go to the hospital because they expected their body to know what to do and feel like a failure because they started struggling. If the human body always knew what to do, pregnancy and birth complications wouldn’t be one of the leading causes of death throughout history. You can be the healthiest person alive and have the best medical care surrounding you and still have a medically traumatic birth because literally anything can go wrong at anytime for any reason.

Scrolled past the "drunk on ale vs. drunk on mead" post again, and coming from a culture where people do still make mead, and whether or not it's alcoholic or not is a delicate balance that takes skill, I can attest that mead drunk really is different. Like you know how wine drunk is relaxed, languid and romantic, and beer drunk is a cozy blurry buzz, but mead drunk is Starting Problems On Purpose kind of drunk.

Not angry or aggressive type of drunk (tbh I don't think Booze That Makes You Angry is a thing, people who are angry when they're drunk just have anger problems and an excuse), but an euphoric sudden desire to have some fucking drama. Highly energetic drunkass delight of making a bad choice to make shit happen. Either by climbing somewhere really really high and breaking something when you fall, or stirring shit with people just to start shit.

Most people who make mead for mayday try their best to make it non-alcoholic.

I can't find the original post, but one of the Humans Are Space Orcs posts was about how maybe it would be absolutely unhinged that the average human can just approximately judge mass and velocity and distance with eyes and muscles, and throw objects with moderate to high accuracy. Like, no planning, binocular vision only, no triangulation, just toss stuff. They go apeshit over human sports, because that's like if a worm wrote a novel or something, practically a bloodsport.

On the flip side, the fact that most humans can't in any way explain explain mathematically what's happening in a game of catch is infuriating. "What do you mean you just kinda figure it? But it's not a guess?"

The practical result is that it turns out that humans can do the same thing with interstellar travel and skip a starship across the universe without any math, although you want to make sure you don't build anything to close to the approximate landing site.
