hey, i just wanted to say that ur posts that talk abt being trans have been pretty big in helping me to discover my own identity. i wanted to thank u for that.

i’m in a situation where the only way i can access hrt is by seeing a certain therapist, but my parents are trying to prevent me from seeing her at all (they know i’m trans, just in massive denial). i currently do not rly have access to money in a way that would get me around this issue. do u have any advice or is this something i’m gonna have to figure out on my own?

Depending on the state you live in (if you live in the US) many clinics have programs that aid you financially if you don’t have insurance or make less than a certain amount of money. Keep an eye out for that when looking at places, and! Find an informed consent clinic for getting your gender affirming care. I think planned parenthood is a common one but it’s not what I go to. The doctor I go to is an informed consent clinic and I don’t have insurance or much money and it took one appointment to get my bloodwork and prescription and it only cost $20 and my meds cost less than that every time I get them each month. Idk how old you are though and if that affects these things if you’re under 18 (since you mentioned your parents actively trying to stop you).

I didn’t figure out I was trans until I was in my 20s and waited until I moved away from my parents to start transitioning but that was because they didn’t know at the time and it was what made me feel the most safe at the time. So maybe other people with similar past situations as the anon here could weigh in? Hope any of this was helpful to you and I’m wishing you luck.

Heya um please don't respond to this genuinely but like I'm doing real bad and i wanna know how transitioning went for you (im going nuts over this and uh you seem friendly sorry for disturbing you with a stupid ask sorry)

I can’t respond to anon asks privately and I can’t tell if you want me to respond or not so I guess lmk if you want me to delete this response or something, but please do not apologize this isn’t disturbing or annoying me. I’m happy to talk about my transitioning experience!

I’ve only been on hormones for a year so I’m not super far along but I’ll give some bullet points on how it’s gone.

- I wasn’t expecting to be able to start transitioning when I did. I experienced an incredible kindness from some friends of mine and was able to move across the country to an area it was much easier to get access to gender affirming care.

- emotional and body changes started becoming noticeable around 3 months in for me. It was here where my brain escaped a dissociative haze I had been in for over a decade and I started to actually feel real again.

- as my body changed slowly more and more I became more happy with my appearance and more confident in myself which lead to me being less of a miserable and quiet little pushover. Basically. Expect personality changes.

- where I am now a year later, I’m happier than I’ve ever been. Despite the current political hysteria pointed at trans people, I’m finally actually feeling at home in my body and I’m surrounded by kind and supporting friends and found family.

- The only thing I regret is not transitioning sooner. I dawdled for months after first moving.
