TO UKRAINIAN FRIENDS

If you are looking for an emergency exit from Ukraine, Poland will open EIGHT safety points on the border with Ukraine (you will get warm food, medical help and from there you will be guided to safety) in two of our voivodeships: lubuskie and podkarpackie. It is confirmed by the Polish Secretary of State in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, Paweł Szefernaker.

There is something so funny to me about Alex launching himself up all those stairs in the hangar and Yassen hanging back listening to him and then basically going “hmm…I’ll take the lift”.

Did anyone else do a double-take when Jack was introduced to that blonde woman at CrayStar? She said her name was Julia Moss and I heard Julia Rothman 😅

Poor Yassen clearly knows no comfort. He’s always in a bare room with a glass of water and a piece of fruit. Just his laptop, a lamp and nothing else 😂

Alex’s little blinks as he’s looking at Yassen while he’s hiding in the hangar 🥺 he’s trying to figure out if Yassen is real or another “hallucination”.

The way Alex just accepts Kyra is so heartwarming. As someone who is terrible at (and hates) small talk I know some people probably think I’m rude and standoffish. Kyra seems similar and other people think she’s not right. At Point Blanc, James even says “she is a machine”. You can see it with Tom when he tries to make small talk when they’re playing basketball and he keeps hitting a brick wall with her.

But Alex? He just sits in silence with her. When they leave his house to talk, at Kyra’s request, he doesn’t break the silence first. He gives her time and space to talk to him first. When they’re in the gym he seems content to just sit in silence with her before she asks about Yassen. And when Cray says maybe he should talk to Kyra, Alex basically shrugs and says “she doesn’t like talking.” There’s no judgement and no attempt to force her to talk or change - he just understands and accepts her the way she is.

Yassen immediately gave Alex an honest answer about killing Ian while all Blunt has done is gaslight and lie to him and dodge the question.

When Mrs Jones asks Alex if Yassen said anything to him on Air Force One, you can see him clam up upon seeing Blunt and I can almost hear him saying “Yeah, he told me my uncle died because he trusted the people he worked with.”

This is going to be a great set up for Scorpia. Blunt does not inspire loyalty, this is even more evident in the books. He shows in Season 2 as well that all the agents are expendable: once they are no longer useful, he throws them away. While Alex could see Yassen as a monster, at least he’s an honest one. Scorpia will be able to do a lot with the mistrust that Blunt has cultivated in Alex.

Kyra and Tom were a fun pair this season. You can see how protective they individually are over their relationships with Alex: Tom clearly admires and loves Alex a lot and is cagey about others getting close to his best friend. Especially a cool, rule-breaking hacker who has been through a life-changing experience with him.

And Alex is almost certainly Kyra’s only friend. You could see it in her reaction when he said “we just help each other” that she doesn’t have people in her life who would do that for her. It’s natural he would mean a lot to her.

Kyra and Tom butting heads and being snippy with each other was so cute to me with Alex just being in the middle 😂 And then they kinda made peace and became tentative buddies by the end which I enjoyed. Alex is a good friend guys, neither of you have to be left out.

Not Alex’s name literally being in the newspaper article Cray and Anders look at in episode 3 😂

“Though emergency services were quick to respond, it was the actions of sixteen-year-old, Alex Rider, who had been staying at a nearby campsite that saved Mr Pleasance’s life. Rider is reported to have bravely entered the building and carried Mr Pleasance to safety. Pleasance’s clothes had by that point caught fire, and Rider extinguished the flames in the villa’s swimming pool.”

They could have recognised the name if they’d read the article I guess. And imagine Yassen’s face if he’d seen it 😂

I’m glad to know how old this portrayal of Alex is as well.

Toby Stephens was an incredible Damian Cray. The juxtaposition between the man who compliments his employees’ work in the hallway and is personable to seemingly everyone. And the mania that means he shoots his friends in the back and screams in people’s faces. And the scary silences 👀 The switch flipping between those facets was seamless.

Another thing I loved about Alex Rider Season 2 was the comedic parts we didn’t have in Season 1. Alex being a little shit in the lift after hunting down Blunt. The two coffee shop interactions with Smithers: him peering so obviously through a sparse tree and suddenly appearing around someone else when Smithers calls him out. Just additional levels of some physical comedy *chefs kiss* I loved it.

Holy shit, I loved Season 2 of Alex Rider SO MUCH. It’s always scary when you love the book version of something and it’s adapted, but they have done so well with the series. Long may it continue!
