i just realised on the show every stark is closest to sansa by the time the show ended. jon’s strongest sibling relationship on screen is sansa, they went to war together, jon named her lady of winterfell, sansa tried to keep the throne for him, she took an army to king’s landing when he was imprisoned. arya had more scenes with sansa than anyone else, sansa knows more about arya’s travels than anyone else, she knows more about her powers too, they tricked and killed littlefinger together and they both agreed on daenerys. sansa tried the hardest to understand bran’s powers, she asked him to become lord of winterfell, she made ramps for him so he can spook people to his heart’s content, she told him she loved him (probably the first person to do it in a long time) and he gave her the north.

I wanna shoot my brains out because now I’m seeing ppl talk about how Sanaa’s reign and Northern independence will lead to starvation since the crown has no obligation to feed the people like we haven’t dealt with two seasons worth of Sansa discussing how food would be distributed. Just say you never cared for her and hate her stans and move on.

I will forever be disappointed that Jon did not say “there is nothing to forgive” to Sansa at the end.

Food is Important
Trigger warning- discussion about starvation
I have made a few other post about food in GoT, specifically as it pertains to Sansa’s character. I understand that for the people watching in America or other surplus nations they may not understand what’s is like to be really hungry, but it is clearly very important in the GoT universe. People in Got are starving they are being driven mad by their hunger as their bodies start to consume itself. The poor are wondering where their next meal could be coming from, many have probably taken to eating rats and other street animals, these people are watching there children waste away and are going without so there children can have even a little bit of food. (This is why the people loved Margaery Tyrell which Sansa clearly learned from)
It is one of the real life elements that makes Got feel less like a fantasy world and more like our own, because this is happening every day all over the world. I know it is not as fun and glamorous as a dead army or dragons; and I think this is why people have been ignoring Sansa focus on food and calling her dumb. I have said before that Sansa is the only one who cares about feeding people, and people seem to be dismissive of this and claim that Sansa is just being a bitch but food is a very real concern in this world, and the show clearly wants us to pay attention because they keep bringing it up.
We see food come up in two different conversation in this episode (8x04). The first one is when they are planing what to do about Cersei and Kings Landing, and the second time was during the conversation between Varys and Tyrion.
The first one is important because they are talking about how food is so important that people will kill Cersei for them if they get hungry enough, which throws us back to season 2 when there was a riot in the street, and Sansa was almost raped. Sansa remembers that frenzy of the starving small folks and this is one of the reasons she was trying so hard to make sure they had enough food for winter. Now while starving them out is better than burning the whole city to the ground I still think this scene shows how desperate everyone is to keep D* from burning down Kings Landing
The second time we see food/starvation in play is the second conversation between Tyrion and Varys. Varys is arguing for why Jon is a better choice for King.
“Many of them will die if the wrong person sits on the throne, we don’t know their names but they’re just as real as you and I. They deserve to live, they deserve food for their children.”
However the person we. Know who cares about all of this and who has been focusing on the peoples lives and the feeding of their children is Queen of the North Sansa Stark!!
Food in general is culturally significant, sharing a meal can be symbolic of a bond that has been established or is forming. We see this in many of the feast scenes, and since season 8 has so many parallels to season 1 those are the two I will focus on.
First off we have two different feasts, one is honoring a long time friendship and the possibility of a marriage alliance (s1) and the other is a celebration of the end of a war and the solidification of an alliance(because we find our friends on the battle scene. I think it is important that we do not see D* eating with the Northerners before the feast in 8x04, because it is just reinforced the idea that they do not trust her and are not excepting her into their surroundings. While I don’t think this feast symbolizes the total subservience of the North (clearly because even though she is eating with them she is still physically separated) I do see it a the start of their expectance.
Food is symbolic but also a very real concern for the people of Westeros... Because food is FUCKING IMPORTANT!!!
(I have never added a trigger warning before so let me know if I did something wrong. Also gifs and screen shots are not mine)

Learning isn’t Becoming
I have been seeing more people talk abut how Sansa is the New Littlefinger or how she is Cersei 2.0 but I think these statements ignore who she is fundamentally. In part i think these remarks come from the old notion that Sansa is not Stark enough, which was a common thing to say among Sansa haters, and because they thought she was the least Stark they are still trying to figure out who she is. Now I’m not going to spend much time on this because it is silly for people to still believe that Sansa, the person fighting the hardest for Northern Independence, is the least Stark. The second part of this is the fact that we are inundated with the show-runners and the actors telling us that Sansa has taken/learned from those around her. For this point I have to say LEARNING IS NOT BECOMING!!!!
Lets start with Cersei 2.0 because I think this is the easiest to show
In 8x04 we see Cersei talking about leaving the gates open so that as many people as possible can come into the city, but right after that we find out that she is letting people in so that D has to kill more people in order to get to her. Cersei is using these people as a human shield because she thinks that D’s advisors will stop her from burning down the city (which is a whole other discussion). Even later on in the episode Tyrion talks about how Cersei hates the people and they hate her, pushing the idea that she does not care if these people live or die even further.
We see Sansa literally have the same conversation with Royce in 8x02 except she is leaving the gates open to protect the people from the dead. She wants to give as many people as possible, as long as possible to get to Winterfell where they would be safe (safer). I think if Cersei were in this position she would close the gates to protect the people inside and so they would not have to share food with outsides, but Sansa has planed so that she can feed the country folk and protect those who cannot fight and arm those who can. Sansa cares about her people, she wants them to rest and recoup (8x04), she yells at Jon for abandoning his people(7x02), she spends her time planning on how to feed, clothe, and arm the Northeners; it is shown over and over how much Sansa cares and respects the small folks who depend on her. This fundamental personality difference shows that Sansa is not Cersei.
Now she does learn somethings from Cersei, one of the funniest tweets I’ve seen is about how Sansa and Cersei are playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers lol. But what I really think she learned from Cersei is how to portray a cold exterior so that people can not see/use her weakness against her; also how to protect her heart from those who would use her kindness and love against her. I think a lot of people see the outside similarities and assume that they are the same on the inside but based on what the characters are showing us they are not alike.
Now for Littlefinger
I can see how people see this one because of the secret keeping (or lack there of) in 8x04. But Littlefinger used secrets as weapons in order to get more power or to move things in place to eat him more power. He sought out secrets to use against people and he became very good at it. He also did not care who he hurt in the process.
Sansa on the other hand does not use secrets as weapons but as defenders. You can see that she is struggling with the decision on if she should tell Tyrion, but in the end she thinks it will keep her family safe from D by stripping away some of her power. She also does not seek out secrets. Because she really is trying to play a different game that Littlefinger, but she is also not a fool and knows how to use the tools or information that she is handed. She said herself that she will never forget his many lessons, but I say again LEARNING IS NOT BECOMING!!!
Non of these gif are mine.

Women of GoT S8 Ep3
Let start with my favorite: Sansa
Ok first off she is not weak! She wanted to stay up on the battlements with Arya but knew that she would just be a liability up there so she left. I think she was talking to herself just as much as she was talking to Tyrion when she said they needed to look the truth in the face, and the truth is they are not great soldiers they are great thinkers. However she shows her courage when she is willing to fight in the crypts (I have never been so mad at anything as much as I am about the fact that they cut the scene where she killed whites!!!) This moment above was one of my favorites of the episode because is shows their fear, their respect for eachother, and that they are gaining streangth from eachother. They are both hiding because of fear and individually they might have stayed hidden but they realize together that they are strong and brave and that they need to do something and they do. Also I never shipped them before but seriously Sophie Turner has chemistry with everything she comes in contact with 😍🥰
Daenerys
I want to preface this section by saying that she is not my favorite character. Whis that said I think that the reason people think she was useless is because they expected to much from her. The people who expected her to single handedly defeat the NK were not being practical because besides having dragons she is not really that useful in battle, and we knew from last episode that dragon fire would probably not work because Bran was all like 🤷♂️. For those who complained that her picking up a sword and fighting was unrealistic and stupid, I would say it would have been if she picked up a weapon for the first time and was Arya level skilled but she was not. It is not impossible that the fear of death and adrenaline would give her the streangth and fortitude to pick up a sword and use it. Even in real life people d amazing things when their life or the lives of their loved ones are in danger (so for me this is compleatly practical). However that fact that between her and Jorah, they beat back an entire swarm of the dead, that gets a little more unbelievable.
Missandei
She stood up for her queen, her friend, the person she believes the most in; this is not a surprise or anything to get rieled up about. It did surprise me that neither she or greyworm died and so I am expecting something from their story line (something other than seeing the breaches again).
Brienne
How did she not die. Don’t get me wrong I love her and I want her to be Sansa’s Queens Guard, but her ark has ended. I thought the only way she would survive is if someone sacrificed themselves for her (like Tormund, Jamie, or Pod). There were sooooo many characters that I don’t understand how they survived and she is just in the long list. If you are in the front lines and never get a break, I don’t care how good you are at fighting one of them are going to die. Ok rant over, I am glad she survived I just don’t understand.
Lyanna Mormont
Ok, so this was bad ass but it felt a little too fan service-y. I have had all kinds of feeling for her over the years but it was sad to see her go. I will miss the way she put Jon in his place when he was being stupid (especially because people seem fine when Lyanna does it but they throw a freakin fit when Sansa tell him he is being an asshole).
Melisandre
I have never been a fan of her but she fuckin did the damn thing. She came out and showed us all that Dany is not the only one with a little fire power. I was a little disappointed that there was no conversation about being on Arya’s list but they did have a nice moment. Also I really like that she went out on her own accord and that Davos let her walk into the abyss (because he clearly wanted to go after her and execute her).
Arya
So if you are still reading then I have not totally piss you off yet but I am about to so here we go. I don’t understand why Arya was the one to kill the NK? I screamed with joy when she did (and I am happy that it was not Jon or Dany) but it just does not make sense. I understand wanting to shock people and have someone unexpected kill him but why not Bran or Sam, who have both been studying and obsessing over him for years. Arya has been studying killing and has been a student of the god of death but it does not add to her story line or character arch. it was a cool sense (amazing visuals) but it just does not add anything to the story.

From reality to fantasy.
Ok I’m going to start this by saying I understand that GoT is fiction world with magic and ice zombies, but my argument is that fantasy has to have an element of reality in order to be believable. G.R.R Martin understood this and made his character as human as possible and showed the true price of war, power, family conflicts, and relationships. The show has clearly been a little looser with reality (like the time traveling that happened in season 7) but S8 E3 took this to a whole new level.
Why did no body die? I know, I know, “people did die” but only like five of them were main characters (and by this I simply mean characters that had names). I’ve heard a lot of people say that we lost so many people and that it makes sense who serviced because they were the best fighters; to that I have to say “WHAT?” The Dothraki were literally hailed as the greatest fighters in open fields ever in the history, we even see them. At work against Jamie on the Gold Road, and yet they get slaughtered (which I don’t object to, that is realistic) but people we see time and time again with their back against a wall (Sometimes literally) are fine a the end of a battle that should have decimated most of the characters, especially with them all being in the same place.
Now the reason I waited so long to write this is that I did struggle between my happiness that most of my favorites survived and being upset that more people did not die, but in the end I dont expect GoT to coddle me, I expect it to rip my heart out. It felt like they are to afraid to kill people and it creates and unrealism that is ruining what I love about the show.
We had a show that confronted characters like Robb Stark with the true cost of war, when he did not want to face reality. GoT showed us the complicated relationship between and mother and son, when we find out Cersei knows the Joffrey is evil but she loves him anyway. We see the reality of sexism facing both men and women in a world ruled by a strict gender norm.
And now this show has been boiler down to a good vs evil, a show to afraid to kill people in order to remain loyal to the reality it had before. I will miss the ones we lost but I’m disappointed by the lack of reality in this episode and I hope there is a correction later on.
