My view as I sit in the "Sir, we need you to pull up" spot at the @chickfila in Shreveport. This, after I point out that the Cobb salad I ordered with no eggs came with eggs. I spent the morning searching with this young man for just the right rig. Somehow he's been bitten by the fisherman bug. He's been watching videos and doing research on the best rods and reels. He knows what to look for in the ways of tackle. He has been saving his money and passing up the big ticket collections at the Legos stores. Today I decided I was going to take him wherever he wanted to go just so he could place his hands on some gear. Bass Pro Shop is where he found the Baitcast Combo. But he thought he could get a better price on the "other stuff" at Walmart. Plus "there are less options with only one aisle.... There's just too much overload at Bass Pro," he said. So after devouring half a box of Krispy Kreams (my treat) we were off for an hour or so at one place and an hour or so at the other and he's the happiest kid ever. Even after loading more then half his wallet! He loaded the line on the reel himself and tied on the practice weight so he could work on his casting in the front yard. I have to confess I had to pull out the manual on the reel. We had to learn how to match the brake settings to the weight of the lure and to the conditions to avoid the "bird nesting." It's still a work in progress. I'm amazed at his patience with the open reel. It's a far cry from the Zebco I learned to fish with. I honestly know very little about fishing... Even though I've preached from inside a really nice Ranger Bass boat and interviewed an actual fishing pro. Still, I'm going to learn right along with Rivers. If he wants to be a fisherman, I'm going to pave the way. Now then... Back out there to untangle the birds nest! #dadslife #fisherofmen #bassproshop #justaddwater
