REVIEW: “Sacks Of Phones” (Album” - Tisbury Obama
I adjust the volume of my headphones before hitting the play button. It’s honestly a fifty-fifty chance with this sort of thing. Regardless of whether the album is turn up worthy, I have to listen to it – all of it. Low volume is, if nothing else, safe. Tisbury Obama, I discover, is anything but and deserves to be blasted through speakers on repeat. Their album Sacks of Phones, recorded in only four days, is filled with catchy but not generic tunes that have you singing after just the initial listen.

Team Spirit - Killing Time
Team Spirit smells like rock n roll, but it burns like power-pop. Ayad Al Adhamy’s group of rockers was assembled after the dis-assembly of Passion Pit’s live line-up, where he played keyboards. The music may sound different than Passion Pit, but the hooks are still there. Up-tempo jams such as “Surrender” and “King Bruce” are where Team Spirit really show their chops, especially when it comes to tight composition and guitar pyrotechnics. Their effort to create the longer, more heart-wrenching songs seems misguided; I’m going to listen to Team Spirit when I want to roll down the window and give the middle finger to the old lady walking her dog down the street while driving punk rock plays in the background.

Before and after: this ‘63ish Gibson Melody maker just got a serious upgrade! Previously modded and gutted, this guitar seemed as though it had been tossed aside after having the bridge pickup replaced with a Duncan Performer Hot Rails and some shoddy wiring. Our customer Paul picked it up and wanted to make sure it sounded and played its best, which meant a complete rewire and a new pickguard and pickups from @lollarpickups! These Melody Maker sized P90s are incredibly loud and deep, with plenty of bite on tap. This thing is just unstoppable now! #guitar #vintage #gibson #melodymaker #lespaul #upgrade #lollar #guitartech #seattle (at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar)

Cloud Nothings - Here and Nowhere Else
After the mental breakdown that was Attack On Memory, Dylan Baldi’s Cloud Nothings have returned with their break-neck punk rock on Here And Nowhere Else. Unlike how Attack On Memory was an internal struggle with one’s own demons, Here And Nowhere Else focuses on the demons of others. It is a relationship album, epitomized in the closing track and high point of the album, “I’m Not A Part Of Me”, where Baldi confesses “I’m learning how to be here and nowhere else”. The music reflects the rage that comes with constant break ups and getting back together, with its raving over-driven guitars and pounding drums. However, he still manages to create effortless hooks that make for great sing-a-longs. Cloud Nothings perform with a grace that can only be heard through beer and blown out speakers.
