the moment I heard elphaba's delivery of "there's a girl i know..." in i'm not that girl i knew i had to draw this comic, i strongly recommend listening to it while you read for the full experience!

this comic is a companion to this piece (which was inspired by glinda's delivery of the same line in the i'm not that girl reprise).

Little sketch of Isagi 🙂‍↕️ because I missed drawing him bebxjxjf and haven't post in awhile so here is yall's meal 🤭

Also hear me out! What if the chains represent everyone with the one thing that makes unable to release their FULL ego

For example! EGO him having chains can be a symbol of how he is free to do whatever he wants with the project but still being monitored by the HIGHER UP! Or even something that's related to his past? When he used to be Noa's Teammate! I'm pretty sure there was something that made Ego unable to push himself into his full egotistical potential

Or for example Chigiri with his Leg injury

Same goes for Isagi as his chain I would mostly describe it as "Hesitation" see how during his entire journey Isagi was still hesitant about his decision! About his entire analysis

So in this illustration especially with the recent chapter! Him breaking off his chains means that he no longer hesitate about his capacities! He no longer doubt himself and fully believes in every piece his brains provides

Imagine... you put on your snazziest suit to go and find your rival, who defeated you in your previous face-off, bruising your face along with your ego. You run into him at the steps before the Korakuen Hall, just as you planned, the city lights on your back and the sprawling arena ahead of you. As you stare down at him from above, he looks up at you, with a dazzled glaze in his eyes and a goofy grin stretching his lips. This is it. This is the perfect moment.

You stand straight, your collar popped high, framing the sharp cut of your jawline, and deliver your promise, your oath. You will wait for him in the finals of the East Japan Rookie King Tournament. There you will settle this once and for all, nowhere else. You smile at him, confident, inviting and defiant as he clenches his fists. His jaw is set in stubborn expression and the thrill of the challenge burns bright in his gaze as he returns the solemn oath.

You play it cool. You turn your back and walk away. You wave him off with a flippant gesture, cool as an icicle, determined to have the last word, but deep down you know: this man will be your undoing.

BRAIN BLAST ISAGI AND SHIDOU FAKE DATING

It starts because they wanted to get the attention of Rin and Sae, their crushes, and thought that hey why not be lovey dovey with other and see if that makes them jealous. It does, it makes the Itoshi brothers INCREDIBLY jealous especially since both RyuSagi are shameless in front of them in a desperate bid to catch their attention.

Before this whole schtick, RinSagi were on okay speaking terms while RyuSae were also on texting terms but that was it. RyuSagi also don't really know how to push the relationship further and confessing like normal people was below them so they didn't even try that route (the Itoshi brothers would iterate later on that they would've preferred that while RyuSagi would laugh in their face).

The thing was born because Isagi wondered what Rin was like jealous and Shidou jumped on that and went "hear me out" and it went downhill from there. They went on "dates" that was actually just them both talking about their respective crush and then talking about soccer. They play it up though when in front of Rin and Sae. Isagi lets Shidou kiss him on the cheek and vice versa but that's honestly the furthest they went for aside from hand holding.

The way they find out is like this. Rin finds out when he becomes an unwilling audience to seeing Shidou press the sloppiest kiss on Isagi's cheek while Isagi laughs. Rin was already halfway to screaming at Shidou while shoving him away from Isagi when Isagi literally presses a cute kiss back and his brain FREEZES. He just stands there, staring, unseeing because WHAT. Then, the jealousy hits and Rin is seething. He grabs Isagi and snarls at Shidou and drags Isagi away.

Sae finds out because he and Shidou are facetiming one time and mid call, Isagi pops up with food for Shidou. He grabs the back of Isagi's neck and they pretend to kiss but they're really just smirking at each other but well Sae is on a video call and he only really has one angle. He grips his phone tightly and then immediately books a flight for Japan because what. What is that. What.

There's a sprinkle of denial in the Itoshi brothers because of course there is but when it goes on for too long the jealousy is stronger. It gets to the point that Rin practically grabs Isagi and confronts him in his own room while Sae locks him and Shidou in a hotel together.

When they finally start dating Rin and Sae respectively, they share a high-five cause not only did it work but Rin and Sae were extremely hot while jealous.

Isagi and Rin fake dating AU where Rin insists that he has to be better than Sae at everything, personal life included. While they're both pretty reclusive and they typically keep to themselves so Rin never really had any competition for that BUT THEN, he noticed after the U20 that Sae started talking to Shidou and it's not just friendly talking either.

So Rin's face twitches at the thought that Sae is gonna get a boyfriend before he does and decides that NO. That is the second to the last fucking thing he wants to lose to Sae to (with football being the last one).

Enter Isagi fucking Yoichi.

On the field, Rin knows that Isagi is wild, abrasive and pretty hostile and aggressive. All things that you can probably compare him to Shidou with. HOWEVER, one major thing is that off the field Isagi is pretty tame, genuine and kind! Even going as far as to be compassionate and compromising. He's like, the model son in law or whatever if Rin's research is right (he just went into a few social media comments of old people gushing over what they want in their in laws).

Rin takes this as a win.

Not only did he score a boyfriend before Sae, his boyfriend would be like infinitely more respectful and have the best first impression with his parents. So, take that, Sae! (He doesn't even know there's a competition, he's just really happy Rin found someone cause he's been pretty lonely without clinging to Sae lately).

Rin obviously approaches Isagi about it pretty bluntly and Isagi is all confused but willing cause Rin was pretty pushy about it and this is probably the first time EVER he's asked for something. At this point, Isagi is just there for the ride and he's pretty chill with it.

They fake date. Rin insists they go on practice dates so they can sort of iron out the details and practice couple stuff (holding hands, hugging, small kisses to the cheeks) and all that. ENTER falling in love but on both sides. Here's the thing! Rin doesn't know SHIT about fake dating so he forgot to add the IMPORTANT CLAUSE (read: we're not allowed to fall in love) cause he's just that dense.

Family dinners comes around, Rin is... Actually nervous about this cause this is the first time he's brought... ANYONE home. Friend or boyfriend or fake boyfriend or whatever! So, he times it that Sae is there and he introduces Isagi as his boyfriend and Isagi is all king and polite and smiles and they're both doing great! And Rin's mom suggests that Isagi should stay over since it got pretty late (to bond they did a few family games and stuff) and once Rin and Isagi are inside the room. And alone.

Rin just covers his face with his hands and internally screams cause he can't believe he was actually pretty happy and enjoyed that entire experience and now Isagi makes his stomach flutter and oh god Isagi would NEVER like him back and-

And Isagi takes his hands away from his face slowly and he's looking at him with his stupid smile and a stupidly cute flushed face and this is where they confess and the night ends with them cuddling cause they're actually together together.
