Bass compressor pedals are a staple in each bass player’s pedalboard and definitely in the studio. Compression tames lows and highs to produce a powerful bass that sits comfortably in any band mix. Bass compressors also improve your playing experience as the bass sound becomes more forgiving with more easily controlled dynamics.

A great tube amp and an SM57 is always a working combo, but there’s a lot that can be done to the sound by just trying out different placements.
I’ve started experimenting with dual microphone setups: Other than the straight or angled SM57, it’s pretty interesting to put a second mike inside the cabinet (open back) or a few feet away from the front.
