Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)
With infertility problems rising day by day, couples are finding it tough to become pregnant normally without any medical assistance. Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) is a simple artificial insemination procedure to treat infertility. Compared to IVF, this is a simpler version and pocket friendly as well. Couples finding it tough to get pregnant, are often suggested IUI.
Table of content:
1. What is IUI? 2. When is IUI suggested? 3. How to prepare for the procedure? 4. Procedure 5. During the procedure 6. After the procedure 7. Results of IUI 8. Risks of the procedure
What is IUI?
IUI is an artificial insemination process that is used to treat infertility. Semen is collected and sterilized. Then it is inserted into the uterus of the female using a thin catheter. IUI is done when the woman is ovulating.
When is IUI suggested?
When a couple finds it difficult to get pregnant, the doctor usually suggests Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) before going for more invasive procedures like IVF. This is a simple procedure that can be opted for repeatedly before one gets pregnant or opts for some other procedure. Cycles of IUI can be suggested to treat the below-mentioned infertilities: • If a couple using donor sperm • Unreceptive cervical mucus • Sex becomes impossible due to sexual pain • Fertility drugs could not help in getting pregnant • Male infertility • Unexplained infertility • Semen allergy • Endometriosis
Procedure
The procedure includes a few steps which are as follows: • Collecting semen sample: semen is collected from the partner or a donor, or frozen sperm is thawed. The semen is then sterilized. The low-quality sperms are discarded and only the good healthy ones are taken insemination. • Monitoring of ovulation: this procedure has to be done only when the female partner is ovulating. Otherwise, the sperms would not get implanted and the lady will have a normal menstrual cycle.
During the procedure
The female would be asked to lie on an examination table, with her legs put into stirrups. A speculum would be inserted into the vagina to open the cervix. A vial of the sterilized sperm is attached to a thin long tube called a catheter. The tube is inserted into the vagina through the cervical opening. The sperm is pushed into the uterus. Finally, the tube and the speculum are removed.
After the procedure
After the procedure is complete, the doctor would advise the woman to lie down for a while. After that one can get dressed and go back to her normal life. Although after a couple of days one might notice a light spotting.
Results of IUI
Doctors ask to wait for at least 2 weeks before doing a home pregnancy test. If one tests too early, the result might be misleading, for example,
False-negative: if the pregnancy hormones are not yet at detectable levels, the result might show a false negative False-positive: if one is taking ovulation-inducing medicines like HCG, then it can give a false-positive result due to the hormones circulating in one’s body. Even if one gets a positive result in a home pregnancy test, the doctor might prescribe a blood test that is more accurate than a home pregnancy test and gives the perfect result.
Risks of IUI
In spite of being a simple procedure, IUI comes with a few risk factors, which are as follows: • Infection • Spotting • Multiple pregnancies

How IVF Treatment Has Been Developed in India?
In Vitro Fertilization, commonly known as IVF is an assisted reproductive technique in which fertilization of the egg and the sperm is conducted in the lab, instead of inside the body. Ever since the birth of the world’s first IVF baby in 1978, the procedure of in vitro fertilization has brought hope to thousands of couples who failed to conceive a child naturally.
Table of contents:
1. Infertility in India
2. The first Indian IVF baby
3. IVF in current India
Infertility in India
As estimated by the Indian Society of Assisted Reproduction about 10% to 14% of couples are currently affected by infertility. The prevalence of infertility is higher in comparison to the rural areas where one out of every six couples is affected by the condition. Studies showed that over 27.7 million people who are actively trying to conceive suffer from infertility. This number is estimated to keep rising over the years.
The first Indian IVF baby
For years, Harsha Shah, who was born on the 6th of August, 1986 at Mumbai’s King Edward Memorial Hospital was credited as India’s first IVF baby. She was delivered through the efforts of Dr. Indira Hinduja and Dr. Kusum Zaveri with notable assistance from Dr. T C Anand Kumar, the director of ICMR’s Institute for Research in Reproduction.
It was through the constant efforts of Dr. Kumar along with a group of scientists from Kolkata, that the Indian Council of Medical Research finally recognized Kanupriya, who was chronicled in the medical journals as Durga to honor her parents’ insistence for anonymity, was finally recognized as India’s first test IVF baby. Kanupriya Agarwal chooses to call Dr. Subhash Mukherji her “scientific father”.
Although news of the birth of the first IVF baby spread, Dr. Mukherji’s claims were questioned by his peers and it was entirely rejected by an expert committee formed by the West Bengal Government.
In an article that was published in 1997, Dr. Kumar stated that he did not doubt that Dr. Mukherji did produce a test tube baby. He also further said the Dr. Mukherji and his colleagues were obviously working on their project at the same time as R G Edwards and Patrick Steptoe were working in England. Unlike Edwards and Steptoe who were highly rewarded and immortalized for their achievement, Mukherji and his associates were heavily ridiculed by the medical fraternity and victimized by the bureaucracy.
These traumatic and humiliating experiences led to Dr. Mukherji, one of the brightest minds of our country, choosing to end his life. It is sad, that it took the death of a doctor, for people to realize that he was responsible for a miraculous birth.
IVF in current India
IVF procedures along with other assisted reproductive technology (ART) have been popularized in heaps and bounds in India, shedding all the social stigmas slowly but steadily.
An estimated 20 million ART cycles are carried out in the country in a year and India could very soon be a leader in the world of Assisted Reproductive Technology. Following the huge boost of IVF in India, it now has a widespread presence of ART clinic chains as well as standalone service providers, throughout the country. The ART (Regulation) Bill that was passed in 2020 empowers people to make cognizant decisions about their reproductive health and also works to make the country a step forward in bolstering this sector forward.
Ramkrishna IVF is one of the leading centres for IVF in India.

IVF Can Be More Successful Than IUI
Artificial reproductive procedures have been the biggest boon for infertile couples who have always dreamt of becoming a parent one day. These procedures are the biggest gifts that medical sciences have ever introduced in the history of mankind. These are not only some methods of conceiving a baby but also a sign of hope for each couple who were once tormented by the society of being infertile.
So these methods not only covered the emotional aspect but also have saved many people from shameless humiliations. IVF and IUI are the two most popular artificial reproductive procedures adopted by many clinics for their fair share of benefits. But IVF has a slight edge and the awareness regarding it spreading at a much more rapid pace in comparison to the other one. Doctors who practice IVF in Siliguri always encourage couples to come forward and book appointments for consultation if they are seriously looking for the possibility of becoming a parent. The doctors also recommend doing it earlier as the success rate of IVF is strictly dependent on the age factor.
This article provides a clear picture of how IVF can be more successful than the IUI method and also clears the dilemma of which method to go for in order to get the maximum benefit. This article also features a short description of where you can get the best IVF in Siliguri.
Table of Content:
1. What are IVF and IUI?
2. How IVF can be better than IUI?
3. Ramkrishna IVF Centre
4. Conclusion
What are IVF and IUI?
As mentioned above, IVF and IUI are artificial reproduction processes performed in numerous clinics.
IVF or In-Vitro-Fertilization is a complex process where an egg and sperms are externally fertilized in a dish and are carefully left to develop an embryo. After the embryo formation, it is then planted into the designated patient’s outer lining of the uterus. The process is only termed as success when the embryo gets connected with the uterus lining and starts developing into a fetus.
On the contrary, IUI or intrauterine insemination is relatively a simpler process in comparison to IVF where properly collected and washed semen samples from either your partner or from a donor will be injected into your uterus through a special thin tube called a catheter. The success of this procedure mainly depends on the fact that the semen inserted should properly fuse with the eggs and produce the required embryo.
How IVF can be better than IUI?
Through results, it has been found that women adopting IVF are becoming pregnant at a much faster rate when in comparison to IUI. This is mainly because IVF has a much more success rate according to the rate per cycle in comparison to IUI. The success rate in IVF under the age of 35 is around 50% and whereas in IUI is 5-20% per cycle.
Ramkrishna IVF Centre
We are recognized as the best hospital in providing quality IVF in Siliguri. Our hospital comprises some of the best specialists in this field who are both experienced and qualified to guide any couple interested in becoming a parent through artificial reproductive techniques.
Conclusion
This article only focuses on the results that these two methods provide otherwise opting for any one of these is purely an individual choice.

Relationship Between Age And Fertility in Men
Most commonly people are under the impression that only a woman’s fertility is altered with age. Well, male fertility is affected by age too. While the fertility changes in women may be drastic and apparent, men’s biological clocks are slowly ticking away too. Consult any of the IVF doctors in Cooch Behar for a comprehensive study of your sperm sample.
Table of contents:
1. Peak and Decline
2. Sperm Motility and Age
3. Risk of Genetic Problems
Peak and Decline
Studies conducted over the years looked at the semen quality in normal males and compared the quality and quantity of sperms in different age brackets.
The study considered every factor for the semen analysis, including how often they had sex. The frequency of sexual intercourse is important to consider as sexual abstinence can lower semen quality whereas frequent sexual encounters results in healthier sperm.
The results were concluded as follows:
The number of motile sperm along with the overall sperm count declined after 34 years of age
The number of sperm with typical concentration and morphology decreased after 40 years of age
The volume of ejaculate produced decreased after 45 years of age
The proportion of Y: X – bearing sperm decreased in the ejaculate after 55 years old.
Sperm Motility and Age
This study also found that sperm motility also varied with age. Sperm motility refers to the study of how well the sperm swim. Sperm motility was best before age 25 and slowly declined where the lowest was recorded after age 55.
When comparing the quantity of sperm with good motility rates in men between the ages 30 to 35 with men over age 55, sperm motility decreased by 54%. These strong variations in the motility rate could not be blamed on sexual abstinence, which was also tracked in the study.
Risk of Genetic Problems
Besides production of low-quality semen, age also affects the genetic makeup of male sperm.
Through various studies, researchers discovered that genetic defects in the sperm increase with age in men. These genetic sperm defects may cause decreased fertility, increased chance of miscarriage, increased risk of potential birth defects, and increased risk of stillbirth. The data recovered reported that older men are not only at risk for infertility, they are also more likely to pass on genetic problems to their children.
A man’s age matters more in the cases where a woman is 35 or older. Older fathers are more likely to have children with genetic abnormalities. The most common genetic abnormality that is passed on is Down’s syndrome. There are other abnormalities which include abnormalities such as, achondroplasia which is a kind of dwarfism, autism, bipolar disorder, childhood leukemia and schizophrenia.
Additionally, the levels of total and free testosterone, the primary male sex hormone, decrease in line with the incline of age resulting in the increasing in the dysfunctional activity of the testes.
Ramkrishna IVF Centre is one of the best in the city backed by all the skilled IVF doctors in Cooch Behar. We offer a variety of services ranging from initial examination & treatment, basic fertility treatments, advanced fertility treatments to andrology treatments.

What is a Fertility Massage?
A fertility massage is designed to enhance fertility by increasing the chance of conception, either naturally or with the help of any assisted reproductive technology. This fertility massage urges the body to cleanse of toxins, reduce stress hormones, balance hormones that aid in the reproductive system, and also stimulates reproductive organs using reflexology.
Castor oil is also used to provide a cleansing affect when it is placed on the abdomen. Consult an IVF centre in North Bengal before scheduling a fertility massage.
Table of contents:
1. What a fertility massage entails
2. Fertility Massage and IUI/IVF
3. Benefits of fertility massage
What a fertility massage entails
· Cranial/Sacral holds which creates a physiological and energetic opening for alignment of the central nervous system and gives an increased rhythmic flow of cerebral spinal fluid.
· Scalp massage, jaw massage, and shoulder massage
· Reflexology points on legs and feet that have relate with the reproductive organ referral points as well as specific organs and glands that help aid in fertility
· Meridian points down the arms, legs, and back
· Intestinal massage
· Pelvic massage over the sheet not going past the pubic bone
· Repositioning of the uterus
Fertility Massage and IUI/IVF
If you are opting for doctor’s assistance by receiving an Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) or InVitro Fertilization (IVF), the role of timing is crucial. A fertility massage can be done up until ovulation for those who are going for an IUI.
If you are going through IVF, fertility massage can be done up until implantation, but there are going to be a few changes based on your personal timeline. Up until egg retrieval, endocrine reflexology will be omitted from your routine as you have enough shots stimulating those organs and any more changes would not be ideal. Between egg retrieval and implantation, you can still use the castor oil packs and omit those endocrine reflexology points.
Consult your IVF centre in North Bengal for a detailed explanation.
Benefits of fertility massage
Hormonal balance: The massage is performed to release feel good hormones like oxytocin. This promotes hormonal balance by clearing pathways for feedback between reproductive organs and endocrine system in the body.
Scar tissue: Fertility massage helps to break up scar tissue and adhesions from caesarians, pelvic issues and abdominal surgery which is really effective in providing a non-intrusive therapy for blocked fallopian tubes as well as with endometriosis, as it decreases inflammation.
Oxygenated blood: It also helps to bring fresh, oxygenated blood to the ovaries, improving egg health and improving circulation to the uterus and surrounding organs.
Remove stagnation: It helps to remove stagnant blood and tissues aiding in clearing the congestion in bloodstream. For endometriosis, the massage rids the body of the old blood, which in turn improves the health of the womb.
Reduce pain: Finally, it reduces pain with the release of endorphins during the massage. Long-term pain is also treated by the reduction of scar tissue and removal of old blood.
Ramkrishna IVF centre is one of the best IVF centres in North Bengal. From assessment to diagnosis to treatment & finally a successful session of pregnancy, we offer you a complete guide towards having a child, guiding you through every step towards the path of hope and success.

Premature Menopause And Fertility
Menopause can be defined as the absence of a period for a long period of time. This is basically observed in women between the age bracket of 40 to 50 as they experience a steep decline in their estrogen levels or their ability to release eggs.
When women reach this condition they are unable to get pregnant through the natural methods and need assisted procedures to conceive a baby. Premature menopause or premature ovarian failure generally means those cases in which this phenomenon has occurred before the age of 40. The doctors who practice IVF in Siliguri always encourage patients to come forward if they experience such kind of condition and try to help them to get a suitable result.
This article explores the relationship between premature menopause and fertility and along with this a short description of where you can get the best IVF in Siliguri.
Table of Content:
1. What are the causes and symptoms of premature menopause?
2. How does premature menopause affect the fertility of a woman?
3. How this can be diagnosed and treated?
4. Ramkrishna IVF Centre
5. Conclusion
The causes and symptoms of premature menopause
There are certain causes and symptoms that trigger premature menopause in the body of the patient. Some of these include-
Symptoms
The symptoms are the same as that of natural menopause that includes-
1. Missing periods at regular intervals.
2. Occurrence of heavy periods than usual.
3. Experiencing hot flashes, a condition in which a woman feels sudden warmth and it quickly escalates to the upper body.
4. Vagina becomes thin and flexible.
5. Complete loss of bladder control.
6. Less temptation for sex.
Causes
1. Presence of auto-immune diseases
The major autoimmune diseases that can cost you premature menopause are diabetes and thyroid.
2. Cancer treatment
Cancer treatments are also considered as another major factor for early menopause. This is mainly because in cancer treatment we use chemotherapy and radiotherapy right to the pelvis and cause damage in the ovaries.
3. Genetic conditions
Hereditary factors may also be considered as the primary source of getting early menopause.
4. Surgeries
Early menopause can also be triggered through a surgery that includes ovaries.
5. Miscellaneous factors
The other factors that greatly contribute to this condition are drug abuse, chronic diseases, pituitary, and psychiatric disorder to name a few.
How does premature menopause affect the fertility of a woman?
During the premature menopause stage, the patient is unable to release an adequate amount of eggs to continue the process of fertilization. This mainly happens because the patient cannot produce the required amount of estrogen hormone to facilitate the release of the eggs. But they can still go for the occasional period and release of eggs as it is not a complete closed process like menopause.
How this can be diagnosed and treated?
Diagnosed
This can be diagnosed through multiple factors that include-
1. Age of the patient
2. Family history of the patient.
3. Observing changes in the period and its patterns
4. Medical history of the patient.
Treatment
The patients mainly go for estrogen replacement therapy and this is mainly done through hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and the combined contraceptive pill.
But hormone replacement therapy is not always considered for patients having a history of cancer. Both the treatments produce the required amount of estrogen and progesterone to reduce the effects of premature ovarian insufficiency.
Ramkrishna IVF Centre
We are a highly recognized that has some of the best doctors who practice IVF in Siliguri. All our doctors are vastly experienced and extremely skilled to help and carry out cases like this and produce the best result for the patient.
Conclusion
Premature menopause is just a phase but can be dealt with proper care and supervision before it transforms to natural menopause.

IUI vs IVF – What Fertility Treatment is Best For You?
Fertility clinics do their best to help out couples who are struggling with infertility. Infertility refers to a condition when a couple cannot conceive a child even after 12 months of having unprotected sex.
These fertility clinics conduct a series of tests to determine the correct course of treatment for you. IVF centres in North Bengal is one of the best that is available in the area.
Table of Contents:
1. What is IUI?
2. What is IVF?
3. Which treatment should you consider?
What is IUI?
IUI (Intrauterine Insemination) is also known as artificial insemination procedure. It is a simple procedure in which the doctor places the sperm that was previously collected and processed in the lab, into the woman’s uterine cavity.
Before inserting the sperm it is carefully “washed” by removing the seminal fluid and concentrating the sperm. The sperm is placed deep into the cavity so that the trip to the fallopian tube is shorter increasing its odds of meeting the egg.
What is IVF?
IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) is an ART (Assisted Reproductive Technology) in which the sperm and the egg are fertilized outside the woman’s body in a lab. Before the fertilization can take place, the woman undergoes hormone treatments to stimulate the ovaries to assist in successful egg harvest.
While a woman normally produces one egg per cycle, with hormone therapy she can produce up to 10 eggs in a single cycle. The egg harvest is performed under sedation and the insemination process is also done in the same day. After fertilization, the embryo is carefully monitored before transfer to the uterus.
Which treatment should you consider?
IUI is the more common fertility treatment among the two. This is most likely the first treatment that people try as it is less invasive and fertilization happens internally instead of a lab. IUI or artificial insemination requires a set of working ovaries, viable eggs and fallopian tube and the availability of 5-10 motile sperms after the ejaculation of the male is processed.
If you or your counterpart does not meet the requirements for an IUI, you might want to consider an IVF. IVF is used as a treatment plan to treat all kinds of infertility.
These include problems with the uterus, tubal issues, endometriosis, age factors, low sperm count or motility, unexplained infertility, and others. It is also ideal if you are using donor eggs or sperm.

Is Natural Cycle IVF Your Best Option?
Natural cycle IVF is additionally referred to as “drug-free” IVF. During a natural cycle IVF, the aim is to reap one, naturally matured egg, instead of using drugs to stimulate your ovaries to supply multiple eggs by the best team of IVF doctors in Siliguri. This reduces the number of fertility drugs needed within the cycle. Often medicines are added to stop premature ovulation. The patient needs to go for a shot for the maturation of an egg or the egg before collecting. Progesterone supplementation is additionally wont to support the event of the uterine lining.
Hence not entirely drug-free, it's a superb alternative to patients who want to attenuate the utilization of hormones in their treatment. There are certain patients who thank personal or religious beliefs don't want to freeze or discard their embryos for them this is often also a preferred way of doing an IVF because it deals with one embryo at a time. But as natural cycle IVF depends on a woman’s normal cycle, it's not a reasonable option for patients with irregular ovulation or anovulation.
Table of Contents:
The process of Natural Cycle IVF
The advantages of a natural cycle IVF
When to go for Natural Cycle IVF
Conclusion
The process of Natural Cycle IVF
In Natural Cycle IVF there's no use of stimulation drugs. Your body naturally selects your best egg. When fully developed, about around the tenth day of your cycle, the egg is regained. Egg collection may be a straightforward procedure. With just one follicle, it takes but 5 minutes to retrieve the egg. Many patients complete the procedure without the necessity for sedation or pain relief medication and are ready to return to figure an equivalent day.
Your egg is then fertilized together with your partner’s or donor's sperm using modern laboratory techniques. Two to 3 days later one embryo is replaced within the uterus during the embryo transfer procedure. A fortnight later we test for pregnancy. the whole process is predicated on your cycle and takes 10-14 days. You've got no or minimal use of medicine and a really low chance of multiple pregnancies. Consult the best IVF doctors in Siliguri.
The advantages of a natural cycle IVF
· Avoidance of multiple pregnancies. As we are handling one embryo for implantation, the prospect of multiple pregnancies is usually eliminated.
· Cost: As minimal drugs are used; it also reduces the value of the cycle. Lowering the value of the cycle makes IVF affordable to most patients.
· More importantly, with natural cycle IVF, the danger of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) that happens usually thanks to using a high dose of stimulation drugs is additionally avoided. As there are least shots included, this makes IVF an effort-free plan.
· Quality of eggs: There are multiple reports that prove that the standard of eggs that are retrieved after a natural or drug-free IVF is best than stimulated IVF.
· Better Implantation Rates: As there are not any medicines involved, the liner of the uterus is more receptive for embryos than a stimulated IVF.
When to go for Natural Cycle IVF?
Natural Cycle IVF may treat infertility patients who face the following conditions:

Factors that can influence IVF treatment
Several other factors that are responsible for the increase in the cost of IVF in Siliguri are based on the medical conditions. The treatment process differs from the physical conditions of the couple. Both male and female factors are responsible for the rise and fall of the costs included in IVF. Here are some of the common factors that directly or indirectly responsible for the cost and additional charges of fertility treatment.
Self Initiative
In this type of fertility treatment the eggs and sperms are taken from the couples instead of taking it from a donor. Such cases happen when the female partner is infertile and come out with some fertile eggs after medication. The cost of medication is most important while the part takes its own initiative towards achieving success.
Introducing a donor
The donor introduced either for a fertilized and mature eggs or for a high motility sperm. The person who donates eggs is called egg donor whereas sperm donor donates the sperm. In such a scenario the price slightly rises. The price of the egg donors is higher in comparison to a sperm donor.

Surrogacy
In the process of surrogacy, a female is hired to carry the entire process of fertility which welcomes more cost. The associated expenses included in this package are much higher depending on the demands and conditions of the surrogated mother.
