Common Tests and Procedures Used in Infertility Evaluation
Tumblr media
Infertility tests can tell why you have issues with conception. Doctors recommend tests for people or couples with more than six months of conception challenges. Before your infertility specialist orders tests, your doctor may ask you about your sexual habits or practices. This understanding helps the doctor identify whether you need tests, the types of tests you need, etc. You can seek guidance from the top infertility specialist in Siliguri, North Bengal.
While tests let doctors know the reason for infertility, there are cases in which the cause of infertility is unexplained. There are varieties of tests and procedures to detect and treat infertility in men and women.
Let’s talk about initial checkups and tests for infertility evaluation.
Initial health assessment for infertility begins with reviewing the medical history and a physical examination of both partners. This helps the infertility expert identify any potential factors that might be contributing to infertility in your case.
Medical history includes a review of:
menstrual cycle regularity
ejaculation issues
erection problems
painful intercourse
sexual habits
past medical conditions
surgeries
current medications
lifestyle
Physical examination means assessing your general health, body weight, blood pressure, pulse rate, etc.
Tests for men
For men, infertility doctors may recommend:
Semen analysis
In semen analysis, the sample of semen is collected and tested in a lab for:
Sperm count measuring the number of sperm available
Sperm motility detecting the movement of sperm
Sperm morphology examining the shape and structure of sperm
Semen volume and liquefaction identify the semen volume and how it liquefies.
Hormone testing
This includes a blood test to check hormone levels, like testeron and other male hormones.
Testicular biopsy
In a testicular biopsy, a medical expert will remove a sample of the testicle tissue for lab tests. Doctors look for the cause of infertility in men, especially when semen analysis shows abnormalities.
Genetic testing
Doctors may order a genetic test to identify if there is any genetic defect present in men causing infertility.
Imaging tests
Among imaging tests, doctors may order an ultrasound of the scrotum, a brain MRI, etc. See the best infertility specialist in Siliguri for male infertility.
Tests for women
For women, infertility doctors may recommend:
Blood tests
Blood tests are done to measure the levels of hormones, such as progesterone, estrogen, thyroid, prolactin levels, FSH, and LH levels.
Ovarian reserve testing
This clinical test helps your doctor rule out how many viable eggs you have for ovulation, which often starts with hormone testing early in the menstrual cycle.
Hysterosalpingography
This medical test helps identify if there is a condition of the uterus and fallopian tubes. Plus, this test examines if there are blockages present in the fallopian tubes.
Imaging tests
Pelvic ultrasound is more commonly done in imaging tests in this regard. Sometimes, doctors suggest saline infusion sonography.
In some cases, infertility doctors may order hysteroscopy and laparoscopy to examine female reproductive organs and their conditions. These may include blockages, scarring, benign growths, etc.
Infertility tests are not one-size-fits-all. Hence, you may not need all of the tests to evaluate your reason for infertility. You can consult the leading infertility doctors in Siliguri for comprehensive health checkups and advanced care. Based on your test reports, your infertility expert will ensure a personalized treatment to benefit your well-being.

How Infertility Specialists Diagnose Infertility: Common Tests and Procedures Explained
Tumblr media
For couples willing to start a family, infertility can be an extremely difficult journey. Infertility is a medical condition that affects millions of people worldwide, which can affect both men and women. However, a variety of diagnostic methods and treatment options are available to assist individuals who are experiencing infertility. You can contact the best infertility specialist in Siliguri to know the diagnostic tests you need to undergo to understand the root causes of infertility.
Understanding the diagnostic procedure can enable couples to take charge of their reproductive journey by assisting them in making well-informed treatment decisions. The chances of overcoming infertility have never been higher because of developments in reproductive medicine, and many couples go on to have successful pregnancies with the help of assisted reproductive technology.
Diagnostic Procedure: Initial Assessment and Consultation
A thorough consultation is usually the first step when you see an infertility specialist. The doctor will go over your medical history, lifestyle choices, and any existing family history of reproductive problems during this appointment. The professional can utilize this information to identify the required tests and understand possible causes of infertility.
The doctor will examine the woman's menstrual cycle, contraceptive history, and any symptoms that could point to underlying conditions such as endometriosis, uterine fibroids, or polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Additionally, the doctor will ask about your partner's sexual health, past pregnancies, and any known problems with sperm function or production.
Common Diagnostic Tests For Women
1. Blood Tests
One of the first steps in identifying female infertility is a blood test. Hormone levels are measured by these tests, which offer vital information on reproductive health. Among the most popular blood tests are:
Luteinizing Hormone (LH): LH regulates the menstrual cycle and initiates ovulation along with FSH. PCOS and other disorders may be indicated by a high LH-to-FSH ratio.
Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH): FSH is in charge of promoting the development of ovarian follicles. Increased FSH levels could be a sign of early menopause or a decline in ovarian reserve.
Prolactin: Ovulation may be hampered by high prolactin levels. This test aids in determining whether infertility is a result of elevated prolactin levels.
Thyroid Function Tests: Fertility can be greatly impacted by thyroid conditions. Thyroid function is measured by tests such as TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) and T4, which can also detect hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism.
2. HSG, or hysterosalpingography
HSG is a unique X-ray technique used to assess the uterus and fallopian tubes. After injecting a dye into the uterus through the cervix, X-rays are performed to check for normal uterine shape and whether the fallopian tubes are open. A successful conception can be prevented by blocked fallopian tubes or uterine abnormalities, hence HSG is a useful diagnostic procedure for detecting structural problems.
3. Ultrasound (pelvic and transvaginal ultrasound)
A visual inspection of the ovaries, uterus, and fallopian tubes is possible using ultrasound imaging. A tiny probe is placed into the vagina during a transvaginal ultrasound to obtain close pictures of the reproductive organs. This test is very helpful in identifying conditions such as endometrial thickness, uterine abnormalities, fibroids, and ovarian cysts. Additionally, a pelvic ultrasound may be performed by the top infertility doctors in Siliguri to examine the endometrium, and the lining of the uterus, check for polyps or fibroids, and determine the health and shape of the uterus.
4. Ovarian Reserve Testing
Assessing a woman's ovarian reserve involves determining the amount and quality of her eggs. Women's ovarian reserve declines with age. Anti-MĂĽllerian hormone (AMH) levels and antral follicle count (AFC) using ultrasound are two tests for ovarian reserve. These tests aid in estimating a woman's chances of becoming pregnant, especially when she is older.
5. Hysteroscopy
In order to examine the inside of the uterus, a thin tube called a hysteroscope is inserted through the cervix during a hysteroscopy. It aids in the diagnosis of conditions such as adhesions, fibroids, polyps, and uterine lining anomalies. Minor surgical procedures, such as the removal of fibroids or polyps, may occasionally be performed using this technique.
Common Diagnostic Tests Recommended For Men
1. Blood Tests
Men can get blood tests to determine their hormone levels that affect sperm production, just like women can. Important hormones tested include:
Testosterone: Low levels may be a sign of sperm production issues.
FSH and LH: These hormones can indicate pituitary gland problems and aid in controlling sperm production.
Prolactin: High levels may disrupt the process of sperm production.
2. Semen Analysis
One of the most effective tests for identifying male infertility is semen analysis. Sperm count, motility, morphology, and overall semen quality are all assessed by this test. Infertility can be caused by a low sperm count, poor motility, or abnormal sperm shape. To evaluate these factors, a sample of semen is taken and examined under a microscope.
3. Genetic Testing
If there are history of male infertility because of chromosomal abnormalities, like Klinefelter syndrome (a disorder where men have an extra X chromosome), genetic testing might be advised. Additionally, Y-chromosome microdeletions that impact sperm production can be detected by genetic testing.
4. Scrotal Ultrasound
The testicles and surrounding tissues are examined with a scrotal ultrasound to check for anomalies that could impact sperm production, such as varicocele, or swollen veins in the scrotum. The reproductive organs can be seen in great detail with this non-invasive test.
A comprehensive assessment of the reproductive health of both couples is necessary to diagnose infertility. This diagnostic procedure comprises hysterosalpingography, ultrasounds, blood tests, and occasionally endometrial biopsies or laparoscopies for women. You can consult an infertility specialist in Siliguri to learn about the test you need. Not only women, semen analysis and blood tests are some tests that are essential for men.
In some cases, other procedures, such as genetic testing or scrotal ultrasounds can also be advised. Using these tests and procedures, infertility specialists can identify identifying the cause of infertility. Treatment options including fertility drugs, surgery, or assisted reproductive technologies (such as in-vitro fertilization) can be recommended after a successful diagnostic procedure.

Surrogacy In Siliguri
Tumblr media
Surrogacy is becoming an increasingly popular option for individuals and couples who are unable to conceive on their own. This life-changing process provides a chance to build a family, whether due to medical complications, infertility, or other personal reasons. Surrogacy in Siliguri has gained attention for its ethical practices, advanced medical facilities, and compassionate support systems that help intended parents navigate the journey of parenthood.
What is Surrogacy?
Surrogacy involves an agreement in which a woman (the surrogate mother) carries and delivers a child for another person or couple who is unable to conceive or carry a pregnancy themselves. There are two main types of surrogacy:
Traditional Surrogacy: In this method, the surrogate is also the biological mother of the child, as her egg is fertilized by the intended father’s sperm or donor sperm.
Gestational Surrogacy: The most common form of surrogacy, where the surrogate carries an embryo created through in vitro fertilization (IVF). In this case, the surrogate has no genetic connection to the child, as the embryo comes from the intended parents or donors.
Surrogacy in Siliguri: Why Choose It?
Siliguri, a bustling city in West Bengal, has become a popular destination for surrogacy services due to its growing medical infrastructure, ethical practices, and affordable healthcare options. Many clinics and fertility centers in Siliguri specialize in surrogacy treatments, offering state-of-the-art IVF procedures, professional consultations, and guidance throughout the entire surrogacy journey.
Here are a few reasons why Siliguri is gaining popularity among those considering surrogacy:

Advanced Fertility Clinics: With the rise in demand for assisted reproductive technologies, fertility clinics in Siliguri have upgraded their facilities to provide world-class treatments. These clinics have access to modern equipment and cutting-edge IVF technologies, increasing the chances of successful conception.
Cost-Effective: Surrogacy can be an expensive procedure, but in Siliguri, it is relatively more affordable compared to larger metropolitan cities like Delhi, Mumbai, or Bangalore. This makes Siliguri an attractive option for many intended parents seeking an economical solution without compromising on quality care.
Ethical Practices and Legal Support: Surrogacy in Siliguri is regulated by Indian laws that ensure the ethical and legal protection of all parties involved. Clinics follow strict protocols to guarantee that the surrogacy process is handled transparently, and intended parents are well-informed about their rights and obligations.
Emotional Support and Counseling: Surrogacy is a highly emotional journey, and clinics in Siliguri offer counseling services to both the intended parents and surrogates. This support helps manage the psychological and emotional challenges that often accompany the process.
How Does the Surrogacy Process Work in Siliguri?
The surrogacy journey typically follows these steps:
Consultation and Assessment: The first step is to consult with a fertility specialist who will evaluate the health and medical history of the intended parents and the surrogate. The doctor will discuss the options available, including whether traditional or gestational surrogacy is suitable.
Legal Agreement: A legal contract between the intended parents and the surrogate is drawn up. This agreement outlines the responsibilities, expectations, and financial compensation, ensuring the protection of all parties involved.
IVF Treatment: In gestational surrogacy, IVF is used to create embryos. These embryos are then implanted in the surrogate’s uterus, and the pregnancy is closely monitored throughout the process.
Pregnancy and Delivery: Once the surrogate is pregnant, she will receive regular prenatal care to ensure the health of both the baby and herself. After the delivery, the baby is handed over to the intended parents.

Tumblr media
Low sperm count is a medical condition that means semen contains less than an adequate number of sperm. Also called oligospermia, low sperm count reduces the chance of sperm fertilizing eggs. Some men havea complete absence of sperm, medically known as azoospermia.

When your low sperm count results from an underlying condition —testicular issue, blockage in the testicles, a hormone imbalance, varicocele, or tumor – you’ll notice symptoms of that condition. Otherwise, infertility or trouble conceiving is the main symptom here.
Causes of Low Sperm Count Explained

Environmental& Industrial Factors
Exposure to xylene, lead, organic solvents, benzenes, toluene, herbicides, pesticides, radiation, painting materials, etc. can affect fertility in men, causing low sperm count.
Certain Medications
Certain meds can cause temporary sperm-relate concerns, such as antibiotics, antidepressants, and steroids.
Diagnosis and Medical Cae for Low Sperm Count
To diagnose low sperm, your infertility doctor may order a few tests along with a physical exam, which include:
Blood tests
Semen analysis
Scrotal ultrasound
Post-ejaculation urinalysis
Generic testing
Transrectal ultrasound
Testicular biopsy
Anti-sperm antibody test
Here are medical care options for low sperm count:
Treatment depends on the underlying cause, your overall health and how severe is the condition.
Lifestyle Changes.Maintain a balanced diet, regular exercise, yoga, breathing exercises, and medication for stress management, have quality sleep, and avoid tobacco and excessive alcohol consumption, and smoking.
Medications.Your fertility physician may prescribe medications like hormone treatments or antibiotics.
Assisted Reproductive Techniques (ART): These procedures include intrauterine insemination (IUI), in vitro fertilization (IVF), and intracytoplasmic sperm injection.
Surgery. Your doctor may recommend surgery to correct anatomical abnormalities that affect your sperm production.
Talk to your infertility specialist for comprehensive guidance. In many cases, treatment and lifestyle changes can’t treat fertility issues. Here, you can opt for donor sperm. You might consult the best infertility doctor in Siliguri, North Bengal.

5 Common Endocrine Disorders Affecting Female Fertility
Tumblr media
Our endocrine system includes various glands that are responsible for controlling important body processes and the production of hormones. Any imbalance in the hormonal levels can be the major cause behind the development of endocrine disorders, which not only impacts your mood, and weight but also increases the risks of infertility.
If you’re having issues conceiving a baby and also suffer from any endocrine disorders or have hormonal imbalances then you can contact an infertility specialist to avail of IVF in Siliguri. The IVF treatment will assist you in having a successful pregnancy despite the ovulation issues developed due to the endocrine disorders.
Given below are some of the most common endocrine disorders that have a huge impact on female fertility rates.
Diabetes
Diabetes is the most common endocrine disorder that decreases the lifespan of the female reproductive system. The high sugar levels in the blood in diabetic patients have been found as a major cause behind premature ovarian aging, which often leads to early menopause and hence, infertility. Uncontrolled diabetes can also degrade the micro-environment of the egg and reduce the egg quality, ovarian hormone synthesis, and ovulation process. The chance of pelvic organ infections especially in the fallopian tubes and ovaries also increases with diabetes which also higher the chances of infertility.
Tumblr media
Amenorrhea
Amenorrhea is another endocrine disorder that affects your menstrual cycle and reduces the chances of getting pregnant. Primary and secondary amenorrhea are the two main types of this health condition which leads to missed periods. Amenorrhea not only leads to missed periods but also causes unsuccessful ovary function. This condition is not directly related to infertility but it is obvious that without menstrual periods and ovulation, it is impossible to become pregnant.
Hypo and Hyperthyroidism
Hypothyroidism is an endocrine disorder that is also associated with female infertility. This is because, with this health condition, the thyroid gland becomes unable to produce the essential hormones. Low thyroid hormone levels interfere with the process of releasing eggs which further causes infertility. On the other hand, hyperthyroidism also develops various complications in the female reproductive system that make it difficult to get pregnant. Some of the fertility issues developed by this disorder are preeclampsia, loss of pregnancy, and menstrual disruptions.
PCOS
PCOS or polycystic ovary syndrome is an endocrine disorder, which is a well-known cause of infertility. Hormonal imbalance is the major symptom of PCOS that interferes with the ovulation process and growth of the embryo. The increased chances of miscarriage, spontaneous abortion, insulin resistance, reduced quality of oocytes, and anovulation are also associated with PCOS. PCOS can also increase the chances of developing ovarian cysts and irregular periods, which can also reduce fertility rates.
Tumblr media
Cushing's Disease
The increased production of cortisol is the key complication of Cushing’s disease that can negatively impact the female reproductive system. The chances of developing amenorrhea and menstrual irregularities also increase with it. This disease also suppresses the essential pituitary hormones required for proper ovary function, which leads to infertility. Availing of the effective treatments of IVF in Siliguri can be the best way to enjoy parenthood if you’re suffering from serious endocrine disorders that are affecting your fertility. You can also indulge in lifestyle improvements such as maintaining a healthy weight, eating a proper diet, and exercising to reduce the risks of endocrine disorders.

Endometritis: Symptoms, Causes, And Treatment
Tumblr media
Most people often confuse endometritis with endometriosis but both of them are different. Both of these disorders impact the uterine lining, where endometritis mostly leads to inflammation of the endometrium or uterine lining due to an ongoing infection. This health condition can be acute as well as chronic which may cause various serious health complications.
The chances of getting affected by endometritis are higher among the women who have recently given birth. Chorioamnionitis is a complication during pregnancy that can further progress to become endometritis. If this disorder is affecting your fertility rate, then you may consider taking the assistance of IVF in Siliguri.
Here is a brief outline of the common symptoms, causes, and treatments of endometritis that you may experience.
Symptoms
In certain cases, there are no significant symptoms of endometritis and this is why most women become unaware of the fact that they have this disorder. This issue makes it more difficult to treat the disorder as it progresses towards chronic endometritis. Some of the common symptoms include-
Sudden chills and fever
Abdominal discomfort
Pelvic pain
Constipation
Extreme fatigue
Vaginal bleeding or abnormal discharge
Swelling in the abdominal areas
Pain during bowel movements
Causes
1. Infection: The main cause of endometritis is a severe infection developed due to bacteria that are usually found in the vaginal areas.
2. Childbirth: In most cases, the cervix helps create a barrier between the bacteria and the uterus but when the cervix is open the bacteria can travel through the uterus. This issue can happen due to various reasons including surgery and childbirth. This is why miscarriage and childbirth especially caesarean delivery are considered as another prominent reason for endometritis.
3. STIs: If you’re suffering from any STIs such as gonorrhea and Chlamydia then also it can cause endometritis due to an infection in the bacterium.
4. Pelvic Procedures: Certain pelvic procedures can also be a significant cause of endometritis as it makes it easier for the bacteria to travel to the internal organs and uterus. Some of such procedures include the insertion of an intrauterine device, dilation and curettage, hysteroscopy, and endometrial biopsy.
5. Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID): Another health condition that can cause endometritis is PID. This is a disorder that causes serious infection in the pelvis that can also spread to the endometrium and lead to endometritis. Early diagnosis and treatment of PID are necessary to reduce the risk of endometritis.
Treatments
Before determining an effective treatment option, the doctor will first diagnose your condition with certain tests. Some of the potential tests include laparoscopy, blood tests to check infection, wet mount, cervical cultures, and endometrial biopsy. After getting the report, the treatment plan will include measures to reduce the infection.
The doctor will first prescribe you antibiotics to kill the bacteria causing the inflammation. In some chronic situations, intravenous antibiotics can also be recommended. Surgery to remove the affected tissues, treating the abscess in the abdomen, and antibiotic treatment of the partner with STIs can also be used.
To prevent the issues of permanent infertility, you must contact an infertility specialist immediately to avail of the treatments of IVF in Siliguri for achieving a successful pregnancy. If left untreated, endometritis can also cause various complications such as septic shock, pelvic peritonitis, and septicaemia.
