Weekend in Hastings?

Things are so much easier when you plan them -

This was a wim trip, I got my bike and my back pack and went out of the city.

As a black female solo traveller I'm used to silly questions and funky stares so this doesnt bother me.

The UK travel scene is a bit of an odd one as some places you go to you can just relax and others is like... Wow don't you watch tell!

But this trip was out of 7/10 i find it really odd the lack of diversity outside of London.

Like wheres the sisters? Brothers? aunties? The lot?

I can't be the only black women who travels outside of London to these random seaside?

But on another note this trip was boom!

I find solo travelling the best way to go (sorry family and friends) but it's less faffing about, if you want to hide in bed for a day you don't have to answer to anyone, if you decide you want to get lost in the forest or even stalk the local horses this is your time!

I do enjoy travelling with others when I fully know the people but some trips can reveal a different side of a person.

Oh! Imagine this was the first time I didn't go to an art gallery while away!

Now I do love art and the freedom to create but bit by bit I'm getting fed up of the amount of money I spend on the arts.

This is my opinion but if you can afford to pay to see scribble on a paper please go for it if it was an interactive installation or live performance then that would be a different story 😜

Eye guess if you don't use it you loose it or so here you go painting with Indian inks - im not sure what make made think the ink would not bleed but I do love this painting ❤️

There's something so powerful about the use of line - the idea that with one different direction the whole image could look completely different.

Now the UK has been my home for aslong as eye can remember however no time have eye ever seen such mind bubbling beauty.

Thank you covid and massive thanks to tiktok without covid eye would be contemplating how to escape captivity from the UK.

Without tiktok we wouldn't of found this place.

As the main character in dance hall queen said "all things come to he who waits" and that's it.

A little break away is always good.

Eye went to the deep Deep not deep deep deep south... Croydon.

Eye find Croydon a place that... realignes my identity in an odd way.

Eye feel very connected to the streets, the people, the shops, the culture and basically everything that eye don't get from my area.

Even the food shocks me how its sooo much more affordable than where eye live.

Then you turn to the so called media to read that Croydon is not safe.

Eye beg to differ.

After sitting in the park at 10pm wayy past my bed time eye realised that the scariest thing about the park was the road foxes digging in the bin for food.

The media likes to segregate people and eye always wonder what they get from that then there is that basic art of war - and divide and rule. Well either the art of war or a reggae song that eye can't remember the name of.

Anyways Croydon is the heart of London I'm a strong believe it's a utopia of peace, a place to just be you as a black british alien in the UK.

In Croydon no one judges you walking down the street. You don't get pulled aside in the supermarket with a reminder that you look like a cow with your nose septum but are still beautiful. You can just be you and get on with it.

Oh Croydon, such a miss understood place.

Just seeing people like me not blue but black people just out on a normal day doing normal jobs it's like wow.

Why is it like I'm stepping into a new earth over there.

It has me wondering what teaching in the south would be like as teaching in the west was not a memory eye wish to return to.
