author's note: hi everyone! i'm sorry for ghosting you for months. school has been so stressful that i didn't even get a chance to read updates from wind breaker. BUT I'm back! thank you all for reading my story!
✧˖° — windbreaker men
✧˖° — mdni, smut, description of not safe for work content.
✧˖° — this is a story not one shot.
I slowly opened my eyes, feeling a strange tightness in my stomach. It was like I was about to throw up. I glanced around, trying to figure out where I was, and then looked down at where I was lying. I was on a soft mattress on the floor, my black shirt lifted slightly, exposing my stomach. My joggers were barely hanging on, the drawstring untied. I held my head and turned to the side.
My eyes widened. "What the—" I quickly covered my mouth, afraid of waking the person next to me. He was lying on his stomach, facing my direction, deep in sleep. His arms were wrapped around a pillow.
Why am I alone with Jay?! Panic surged through me. Even though I was dizzy, I managed to sit up. I frowned when my foot hit something—like a body. I felt a wave of relief when I looked down and saw June sleeping at our feet. Shaking my head, I fixed my hair. My gaze fell on Jay again. He looked so peaceful, fast asleep. Unlike when he’s awake—he’s intimidating, unapproachable.
My heart raced again, and I quickly averted my eyes, rubbing my temples. Did I do something terrible last night while I was drunk? I bit my lower lip, struggling to remember what had happened.
We already know.
I know something they don't.
Can you stay away from me from now on? Please?
"Holy shit. Oh, please don’t tell me—" My eyes went wide, and I scrambled off the mattress, trying to be careful not to wake the two of them. Once I was out of the room, I saw Dom sleeping on the floor, clutching Yuna in his arms. Aria was also fast asleep, mouth open. I scanned the room for Minu and Mia, but when I spotted them, I was surprised to see they were already awake.
Mia was making coffee for herself and Minu. They hadn’t noticed me yet, too busy chatting and smiling. What a lovely couple. When will I ever experience something like that? I sighed and immediately looked for my stuff.
"Demitra, you're awake!" Mia’s sudden voice startled me. I forced a smile and nodded, still searching for my bag, which Dom had apparently slept on. "Come join us. What do you want? Milk? Coffee? Or milked coffee?" she asked cheerfully.
"Water is fine," I said, giving her a small smile.
"Water in the morning? Are you an alien?" Minu joked. I chuckled and shook my head, pointing at my stomach.
"If I drink any of what Mia mentioned, I'll end up in the bathroom," I said, making them both laugh.
When Mia handed me the glass of water, I caught the two of them exchanging glances. It was as if they were communicating silently. These friends really had a habit of doing that, even when it was so obvious. After taking a sip, I set the glass down on the counter and crossed my arms, leaning against the sink.
"I know you two know something. You’re way too obvious," I joked, raising an eyebrow at them.
Mia looked flustered, her eyes darting to her boyfriend, as if silently begging him to speak for her. "W-Well, yesterday, Principal Nick told us something about you. About you being a professional rider—"
I burst out laughing. "Professional? Please, did Nick really say that?" I asked in disbelief. "I’m not. Let’s just say I’m an expert."
"But it's the same thing!" Mia jumped in. I just shrugged.
"It’s not," I said, still chuckling.
Minu suddenly grew serious, putting his glass down. "Why didn’t you tell us you're famous in England? As the underground princess? And that you’re friends with Owen from High Calvary!" he said, catching me off guard. Did Gramps really tell them everything? At this rate, I wouldn’t be surprised if he also mentioned my favorite food.
"Ew, don’t ever call me that again," I cringed. "And I’m not friends with him. I just know him." I avoided their gazes, just as I noticed Yuna stirring awake, probably overhearing our conversation.
"That’s the biggest lie I’ve ever heard in my life."
"Minu!"
I laughed as Mia scolded him. She gave me an apologetic look, clearly embarrassed by what her boyfriend had said. "You can ask him if you want." Please don’t.
"You beat him once," Yuna chimed in, despite just waking up.
"I don’t remember that," I replied, playing dumb. She just scoffed at me. "And, going back to what you said earlier, I’m not famous. I was just known in the underground. And that was years ago, so yeah, I’m not relevant there anymore," I said with a laugh, brushing it off.
"Stop being humble, Demitra," Minu said, and I just shot him a glare. "But the main point is, you're stronger than everyone else. I don't even understand how you lost to Jay. No offense to my best friend." He added, but my eyes widened when I saw Jay standing by the now-open sliding door.
"You're overthinking it," I replied, picking up my bag. "Even if you say I’m strong, biking isn’t my thing anymore. I’ve already told you that. I only got back into it to help you guys out." Everyone went silent at my words. "I did have fun helping you, though. Just make sure you explain things to your friend Shelly when she finds out about that video circulating. She's going to freak out seeing her 'clone' on the screen." I glanced over at Jay, who was standing with his arms crossed, leaning against the wall, watching me closely.
"Why do you sound like you’re leaving us after this?" We all turned in surprise to see Dom awake, scratching his head and clearly just having woken up.
"We still want you to be our friend, Demitra," June said softly, his eyes gentle, making my heart ache a little. I laughed to mask the emotions stirring inside me.
I knew they wouldn’t understand, but I needed to keep my distance. Nick already knew I was in Korea, and it wouldn’t be long before he told Shelly. The last thing I wanted was to run into her at school. Call me bitter, but I was only trying to protect myself. I couldn’t afford to get hurt again, especially not after being betrayed by my old friends.
"I appreciate it. We’re still friends, you know. And I’m not leaving." At least, not yet.
They made sure I had breakfast before I could even mention going home. As expected, Dom wouldn’t stop pestering me about how it felt to be famous in England, even asking for tips on how to beat international competitors, knowing I had beaten plenty in races before. Mia and the others, on the other hand, kept trying to pry into how I knew Owen, but I kept dodging the topic. The whole time, I could feel Jay’s eyes on me, and it was driving me crazy. Our conversation from last night kept replaying in my mind, making me avoid him even more.
"Last question, how did you learn to ride a bike?" Aria asked, stopping me in my tracks. The face of a man who had been absent from my life for so long immediately flashed in my mind. His earrings were the one thing I always remembered whenever he crossed my thoughts.
"From my dad," I said, half-truth, half-lie.
"Damn, I wish your dad could teach me!" June exclaimed.
"Never again. I’ll never take lessons from dads again. The last time I did, I nearly died from how hard Shelly’s dad pushed me," Dom said, practically on the verge of tears. I feigned surprise, though I knew all too well how strict Mark could be.
"Oh, Jay, where are you going?" Aria asked when she saw him stand up.
"Home," he replied shortly, not even glancing in my direction.
"Why don't you and Demitra leave together? So she has someone to walk with," Yuna suggested, and I nearly choked. Out of all the people who could’ve said that, it had to be her. I quickly shook my head.
"Then let’s go," Jay said coldly, addressing me directly. My mouth fell open in shock before I glared at him.
After saying my goodbyes to everyone, I hopped on my bike. I saw Jay already outside, waiting for me. I sighed before riding over to him. He was adjusting his helmet when he spoke.
"You should have told them you're leaving," he said, catching me off guard.
"What?"
His tired eyes looked straight at me. "You lied to them. Don’t just disappear without saying goodbye," he said before pedaling away.
My jaw dropped as I quickly followed him.
"What makes you think I’m leaving?"
"You literally said it last night."
I clenched my jaw, trying to think of an excuse. Hurry up, Demitra! Think of something. "I have no reason to leave, Jay," I lied, but he didn’t seem to care. His indifference made me even more annoyed. "Maybe you didn’t understand what I said last night. Why would I leave? I don’t have any enemies at Sunny High."
"Do you really want to talk about this?" he asked, his eyes locking onto mine. A chill ran down my spine.
"Yes! Tell me, Jay. Why would I leave?" I fired back. If you really don’t know anything, prove it. You’re hiding something. I could tell last night when you tried to act like you didn’t know. I’m not stupid.
He shook his head and sighed. "Stop asking me questions only you can answer," he said coldly. "If anything, I should be asking you that. Why are you leaving? Is there someone you’re scared to run into?"
His words struck a nerve.
"What the hell is your problem?" I snapped, making him stop. "I’ve had enough of your riddles, Jay. Just tell me what your issue is with me. You keep dropping hints about things you think you know, and it’s driving me insane. You keep looking at me like you’re waiting for something, and now this? Agreeing to walk me home after I literally told you to stay away from me?"
His expression shifted into something unreadable. "I don’t have a problem with you—"
"Then stop messing with me. If you know something, just say it. Tell me, what exactly did you hear from Nick?" I demanded, stopping my bike and glaring at him. His jaw tightened as he took a deep breath.
"I only told you what I heard last night, nothing more." He was lying again. What the hell? I nodded slowly, scoffing in disbelief. Ignoring him, I pedaled faster, trying to get away. Why does he keep messing with my head? What does he really know? From the way he talks, it's as if he knows everything about my secret.
I veered off the main route, taking a different path to put more distance between us. Thankfully, he didn’t try to follow. I wasn’t in the mood for another race with him. It took me 30 minutes to reach the park. I parked my bike and dropped myself onto the grass, frustrated. I held my head in my hands, trying to shake off the haunting memories.
"Is it true, Nick? Shelly’s engaged to Owen?"
"Yes, Demitra. Why? Didn’t Owen tell you? Aren’t you two close?" Nick had approached me, but I stepped back, covering my mouth. My body trembled at his words. After all this time, Owen is engaged to my friend? And Shelly knew? They both kept this from me?
Tears, which I had been trying to hold back, finally spilled over. "Demitra, why are you—" Nick began, but I cut him off.
I gripped my hair tightly, burying my face in my knees as the tears streamed down. I couldn’t understand why I still felt so much pain after all these years. I should’ve moved on by now. I should’ve forgotten them, but why was this happening to me? Why do the people I’ve been trying to forget keep coming back? My heart tightened painfully in my chest.
"I didn’t let you go just to see you cry."
I froze at the voice. Lifting my head, I saw Vinny leaning against his motorcycle, hands in the pockets of his leather jacket. I quickly looked away, wiping my tears.
"What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be at the race?" I changed the subject.
"It seems you really don’t care about the Sabbath, huh? The race ended a while ago," he said, lighting a cigarette. He even offered me one, but I shook my head. He raised an eyebrow, clearly surprised I wasn’t smoking.
"Did they find out?" I asked quietly.
"See this?" He pointed to a bruise on his cheek. "That's your boyfriend’s doing," he said before tossing the cigarette, even though he hadn’t taken a puff.
"I don’t have a boyfriend," I shot back, giving him a glare.
"Wooin is a smart guy. No one can fool him," he muttered, staring straight ahead at the road. "They’re pissed. Not just at me, though."
I sighed. "I’m sorry. You fought because of me," I apologized, feeling guilty.
"We were already fighting long before this, even without you," he said casually, lying down on the grass. "So tell me, why are you here? Did Hummingbird finally kick you out after using you?" He looked at me sharply.
"You know your friends aren’t like that," I said, meeting his gaze with equal intensity.

I was gasping for breath as I climbed off my bike. I couldn’t take it anymore and yanked off the face mask. It felt like no one would recognize me as long as I had the blonde wig and makeup disguising my face. My hands gripped my knees as I doubled over, trying to catch my breath. My head was spinning, and it felt like I could throw up any second. My heart was still pounding in my chest. I’ve raced before, but nothing had ever pushed me to the edge like this. That race almost killed me!
"Shelly!" Dom’s shout cut through the noise. I glanced to the side and saw Jay, also struggling for air, wiping the sweat from his face. He was staring at me, and for a moment, I thought I saw concern in his eyes. Was that real? Or was I just imagining things?
"Are you okay? Do you feel anything? Do we need to go to the hospital?" June’s voice was frantic as he bent down to look me in the eyes. I raised my hand to stop him.
"I-I’m fine," I whispered, my voice shaky.
"The hell you are—Where's the medic? Hey! My friends were almost crushed by that truck! Are you even thinking straight? Do you plan on getting them killed? Tell me, because if I find out who set up this round, I’ll be the one to end them!" Dom was already causing a scene, yelling at the staff. June and Minu were holding him back, but Dom wouldn’t stop. His eyes were burning with rage.
"Let me see that." I was caught off guard when Jay appeared in front of me, grabbing my arm where the scrape was. My eyes widened as I tried to pull away, but his grip tightened, firm but gentle. "You’re hurt," he said quietly, disbelief in his voice.
"It’s just a scratch," I muttered, turning my gaze away. "I’m sorry for what I did back there. I didn’t plan to pull that move. I just panicked when I saw the truck coming. I was going to ride the wall like you, but I was too late—"
"Stop apologizing. You’re the one who got hurt. This isn’t your fault." His voice was sharp, and the intensity in his eyes stunned me. I could see it now—the worry and the anger written all over his face.
"Shut the fuck up and get your manager out here!" Dom shouted at the staff, who were already scrambling, overwhelmed by his outburst. I saw his girlfriend rushing toward him, trying to calm him down. Aria and Mia approached me, causing Jay to step back and give them space.
"Demitr—I mean, Shelly! You’re bleeding! We need to get you to a hospital," Mia said, eyeing the blood dripping from my wound. I shook my head.
"I’ll live. It’s not life-threatening."
"But—"
"Dom," Jay called out, catching his attention, along with Minu and June. "Let’s go to your place. Let’s just leave." Jay's voice was low, clearly irritated. Dom clenched his jaw but eventually followed Jay’s lead.
Mia and Aria helped me walk, despite my insistence that I was fine. As we made our way back to the car, reporters and cameras started swarming around us. A few of the guys formed a barrier to block the cameras, and I silently thanked them for it. They ushered me into the car first, while Mia, Aria, Minu, and Yuna took another vehicle. This time, I was no longer in the front passenger seat. Instead, I sat in the back with June and Jay, while Dom took the seat I had occupied earlier.
"I’m still not done talking to those idiots back there. I can’t believe a truck almost hit you two. You were nearly killed!" Dom ranted, his voice rising in anger. I leaned my head back against the seat, holding onto my injured arm.
"I don’t get why they even included that. The earlier parts of the race were fine, but a moving truck? If I’d been there, I would’ve been dead for sure," June muttered, shaking his head.
"Stop touching it; you’re going to infect it," Jay said, suddenly pulling my hand away from my wound. I rolled my eyes. Of course, he’d know—his mom’s a doctor. The cut was stinging badly, but I couldn’t stop myself from gripping it.
"The Principal is calling us," Dom said, holding up his phone. I took a sip of water that Jay had handed me from the back.
"Don’t answer it," I said quietly but firmly. Everyone paused. "Trust me, just don’t. I’ll handle it tomorrow. Besides, Nick and I have other things to discuss." Dom and Jay exchanged glances, thinking I didn’t notice.
June let out a deep breath beside me. "You know, despite everything, I’m just glad we won this round," he said with a small smile.
"Damn right. And you know what that means? We’re celebrating at my place! Let’s drink!" Dom shouted, grinning wide. His driver nodded in agreement, as if giving his blessing to the plan.
"I'll just head home—"
"Not until we treat that wound," Jay interrupted again. I shot him a glare, yanked off my wig, and tossed it to the back of the car, running a hand through my tangled curls.
"I think you’re forgetting who you’re talking to, Jay. I’m not Shelly anymore. It’s me, Demitra." I laughed, but he didn’t even flinch. I couldn’t believe how serious he was about my injury. Was it because he’s a doctor’s son? I wouldn’t be surprised if he always carried around a first aid kit. "Fine," I sighed, giving in.
When we arrived at Dom’s place, I couldn’t believe how massive it was. He was definitely loaded. I thought he was joking about his family being part of the Yakuza, but now it all made sense. He sure didn’t look the part, though. As we entered the house, a group of men—likely Dom’s men—greeted us. He immediately ordered one of them to grab a medical kit for my wound.
"Your dad isn’t home, Master," one of his bald-headed men informed him.
"Thank fuck. Get the drinks out and order some food. We need to celebrate." Dom commanded, already stripping off his shirt.
Before long, Minu, Aria, Mia, and Yuna arrived as well. Mia offered to tend to my wound, but I couldn’t help but notice Jay eyeing her as if he wanted to do it himself. Was he really being that much of a perfectionist? Or did he not trust his own friend to handle it?
"I need a shower. I feel sticky," Dom announced, tossing a towel over his shoulder.
"You do smell," Yuna shot back, rolling her eyes and giving him a playful shove toward the bathroom.
"Wow, you brought extra clothes, Jay?," Aria shockingly said, noticing him pulling clothes from his bag. I glanced at Jay, who looked like he was about to head off to clean up as well.
"Demitra, I’m sorry about what happened earlier. We had no idea that would happen. If we did, we never would’ve asked you to join the race," Minu said, sounding genuinely apologetic. I chuckled and shook my head.
"Why are you more worried about me than Jay? He almost got hit too, you know," I joked, holding Mia off as she tried to apply medicine to my arm. I wanted to shower before treating the wound. "I’m fine, really. I’ve been in races way more dangerous than that," I added, realizing I probably shouldn’t have said that.
"We know Jay can handle it. That guy always finds a way out," Minu said with a grin.
"Yeah, I noticed." I sighed. "Hey, do you have any spare clothes? I seriously need a shower," I asked Mia.
"Oh no! I didn’t bring any extra. But I can ask June if he has some," Mia offered, but before she could get up, a shirt and joggers flew in my direction. I turned to see who had thrown them—Jay.
"June’s already in the bathroom," Jay said curtly before turning away to presumably take his own shower. My ears burned as I glanced down at his clothes. I hadn’t even asked for them! What was he thinking, lending me his clothes in front of everyone?
I'm trying to pull myself together. The only thing left is to punch my chest to stop it from pounding so hard. I can't even understand myself—was my heart racing because of exhaustion from the race, or was it because of him? I wanted to curse at myself as I stepped out of the bathroom, drying my hair in front of the mirror. Jay's shirt was obviously too big, as were his joggers. Thank God there was a drawstring to keep them from slipping down.
When I returned to the living room, I was surprised to see food already laid out. I wanted to leave, but it felt rude, especially since Dom had prepared everything. I figured I could handle it as long as I ignored Jay. I still didn't trust myself around him.
"Hey, check this out! Sabbath’s in the race now, and look! They're in a different location than you guys earlier," Minu said, pointing at the TV. My eyes shifted to the screen, and my chest tightened when I saw Wooin. I didn’t mean to upset them by running away. I just wanted them to understand me. I wasn’t doing this because I wanted to—I was only trying to help the Hummingbird. I didn’t want them to think I’d betrayed them, especially since Wooin played such a huge role in my life. He paid off all my family’s debts. He ended my suffering.
"That’s so unfair! Why isn't their challenge as hard as yours? In the mountains? Really?" Aria grumbled, clearly starting to get drunk.
Vinny appeared on the screen, and I immediately looked away. I turned my back on the TV, grabbed some fried chicken, and reached for a bottle of soju. As I poured myself a shot, I accidentally locked eyes with Jay—he was standing across from me, getting food. He was watching me. I quickly looked away.
"Hey, Demitra. Are those guys still bothering you? Especially Vinny? Just let me know, and we’ll handle it," Dom said, catching me off guard. I shook my head.
"You’re drunk. Stop drinking so much," Yuna scolded him.
"I forgot you know Sabbath, Demitra. Why do you think they keep approaching you? Maybe they’re messing with you because they know you're here with us," Mia chimed in.
"Maybe," I muttered absentmindedly, taking a shot of soju. I winced as the burn hit my throat. I wanted to forget, even just for today. I wanted the guilt to disappear. I wasn’t sure if I’d ever be able to face them again after running away. I knew Vinny got into trouble because of the help he gave me.
I lost track of how many shots I took, but I wasn’t worried about drinking too much. I wasn’t the type to go wild when drunk—not like Dom. Sometimes, when I drink, I just laugh or stay quiet. I’m still aware of my surroundings, even if I feel a bit dizzy.
"We already know," Jay said quietly beside me. We were both sitting, watching his friends get drunk and sing loudly.
"I know," I smirked, glancing at him.
"You’re all too obvious. And besides, I know Gramps. He’s always been a chatterbox." I sighed, closing my eyes as the dizziness began to hit me harder.
Jay nodded slowly. "I know something that they don’t," he said seriously, making me pause. For a second, I thought I hadn’t heard him right, but I knew I had. He didn’t whisper it.
"Oh yeah? Like what?" I challenged, meeting his gaze.
He licked his lips, as if he wanted to say something but was holding back. My curiosity only grew stronger. I straightened up and looked at him directly. "Like what, Jay?" I asked, irritated. I knew Gramps wouldn't talk about my personal information, especially the things I tried so hard to avoid. So it seemed impossible that Jay could know.
Unless...
"I accidentally overheard Mr. Nam and the principal talking," he said, his eyes drifting to the middle of the room, watching Dom and the others goofing around. I scoffed in disbelief and shook my head. No way. Out of all people, why did Jay have to be the one to hear it? And why did it have to be Shelly’s boyfriend?
I clenched my fist. "Don't think about it. Not everything you hear is true," I lied, taking another swig of soju.
"Sure," he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
I glared at him. "I don't know, okay? If I had known your girlfriend went to Sunny High, especially you, I wouldn’t have enrolled there," I snapped, frustration boiling over. I didn’t even know why I was so mad. Maybe it was because I was angry at myself for being so stupid. "Don't worry, I’ll leave soon. I just don’t know when. I don’t want to see Shelly either."
He went quiet, and the air between us grew awkward. My thoughts were spiraling again, and I started rambling. I think I should stop drinking now.
"I'm talking about your relationship with Owen. Why are you bringing up Shelly?"
My jaw dropped at his words, and I glared at him. This jerk. He had to be lying. I stared at him hard, trying to figure out if he was bluffing, but I couldn’t read his expression. Slowly, I realized I had dug myself into a hole again. I slapped my forehead in frustration.
"I must be drunk. Just forget what I said," I mumbled, feeling the heat rise to my cheeks. I couldn’t even look at him anymore. "I don’t have a problem with your girlfriend, don’t worry. I was talking about something else, not her. I’m probably just drunk." I pushed the soju bottle away. I almost thought I heard him laugh, but when I glanced at him, he was serious again.
"I have no relationship with that man. I just know him," I denied. "Whatever you heard from Gramps, he was just bluffing. The old man talks nonsense sometimes."
Jay didn’t respond, just let out a deep breath. He grabbed my bottle of soju and set it aside, as if he was determined to stop me from drinking any more.
"Stop drinking. Just go to sleep," he said with no expression on his face. Part of me wanted to smile because it seemed like he was worried about me, but the other part of me wanted to slap myself for even thinking that. I closed my eyes and leaned my head back against the wall. He was right—I needed to sleep. The alcohol was making me drowsy.
"Jay..." I murmured with my eyes still closed. "Can I ask a favor?" I didn’t even know if I was dreaming, but I felt my body being lifted off the floor, like someone was carrying me. Maybe I was dreaming, or maybe death was finally taking me.
As usual, he didn’t answer. I furrowed my brows, keeping my eyes shut. "Can you stay away from me from now on? Please?" I whispered.
Still, he didn’t answer. Of course, that’s Jay. I never get a straight response from him. I felt myself sink into something soft, making me even sleepier.
"I can't..."

Wooin's vision darkened as he saw the two bouncers assigned to his condo sprawled on the floor. Joker's eyes widened in shock at the sight, and he rushed inside to check if Demitra was still there. He nearly broke down every door in his frantic search, desperate to see if anything had happened to her. But there was no sign of her anywhere. Wooin clenched his fist, knowing immediately who could be responsible for this.
"What’s going on here?" Hyuk asked, his voice dripping with boredom. He seemed unfazed by the sight of the two large men on the ground. "That looks bad," was all he managed to say, eyeing their battered faces.
"That bastard," Wooin growled, making his way down the stairs to find the man he suspected was behind it all. When he reached the bottom, he spotted Vinny sitting on a counter stool, casually drinking alcohol at this early hour, his gaze fixed on the TV. He was watching the race.
Rage surged through Wooin as he recognized Demitra on the screen. He knew it was her, even with the wig. No one could identify her like he could.
Without a word, Wooin grabbed Vinny by the collar and punched him hard in the face. Vinny didn’t even flinch, as if he had anticipated the blow. Instead, he just grinned. It wasn’t long before Joker and Hyuk appeared behind Wooin.
"You let her escape? Do you really want to die?" Wooin challenged, his voice laced with a threatening edge.
"I didn’t let her escape. I helped her get away," Vinny replied, his tone dismissive.
Joker’s ears perked up at that, and he stepped forward, gripping Vinny’s shirt tightly. "Why did you do that? Why?" he demanded fiercely. Vinny looked back at him with a blank expression.
"The girl wanted to go to the race. Who am I to say no? Besides, you keep telling me she’s a princess. A princess should be obeyed," he retorted arrogantly, tilting his chin defiantly.
"You piece of shit," Wooin spat. "Is this your way of apologizing for messing with her? Let me tell you, you’re a fool for doing that. She’s in danger and shouldn’t be involved in races, you asshole."
Vinny’s expression remained surprisingly neutral, despite the intensity of the situation. "That’s not my problem anymore."
Hyuk shook his head in disbelief, scoffing. "Idiot," he muttered before turning away.

"I don’t know why I’m so nervous. We can’t possibly be picked, right? With so many crews, it’s practically impossible," Dom tried to reassure himself, laughter escaping his lips. Demitra was focused on the MC at the front, who was mixing the papers in a box. Jay couldn’t help but think she looked like she was performing some sort of ritual to ensure their team wouldn’t be selected.
June, on the other hand, stared intently at the large screen, swallowing hard as he considered whether he could really make it to the finish line. Deep down, he knew he was the most likely to lag behind. Jay glanced at the other crews and spotted the Monster team. Some members grinned smugly, while their leader wore a serious expression. Where was the Sabbath crew? Jay wondered, unease churning in his gut.
"I’m sure the Monster team will go first—"
"Ladies and gentlemen, the first team to race is the Hummingbird Crew!"
"Oh, fuck," Dom exclaimed, his shoulders sagging as disappointment washed over him. Demitra sighed, tightening her grip on her face mask. June took a deep breath, steeling himself for what was to come. Jay, however, remained focused, his bike ready for action.
Based on what Demitra had watched, Shelly had stretched before her race, so she decided to do the same. She extended her arms while glancing at the large screen, where their team was being featured. She caught Jay looking at her for a moment, but he quickly averted his gaze. This left her confused—should she approach him and pretend to be Shelly?
"Just remember what I told you guys. We're going to win this," she declared, mounting her bike with a serious focus on the road ahead.
"I’m gonna mess this up, I just know it," Dom muttered under his breath.
"Stop saying that, Dom. We can do this," June reprimanded, though the nervousness in his eyes betrayed his words. Dom slapped his mouth, then shouted as if to motivate himself.
Demitra glanced at Jay, who appeared deep in thought. She had noticed his distracted demeanor since they arrived, as if he were lost in another world. She shrugged it off. Maybe he was just missing Shelly. Her gaze fell to the necklace he wore, but as soon as he caught her looking, she quickly averted her eyes.
"WOW! WE'RE TRENDING ON SOCIAL MEDIA! THIS IS SO EXCITING! IT LOOKS LIKE THE HUMMINGBIRD HAS PLENTY OF FANS!" the MC announced to the crowd, laughter evident in his voice.
A man stepped to the center of the stage, holding a small flag, ready to signal the start of the event.
Demitra tightened her grip on the handlebars. As the man in the center signaled the start, Dom took off first, followed closely by Jay, June, and finally her. The road was filled with large trucks, leaving barely enough space for them to race together. Demitra cursed under her breath as she realized the different types of trucks blocking the way. The organizers had clearly invested a lot of time and money into this race.
"And we can see that the Hummingbird team remains calm as Dom kicks off the race! Let’s see how long they can maintain that composure as they reach the most thrilling part of the competition!" the MC shouted, his voice booming over the crowd.
"Oh hell nah," Dom muttered under his breath as he spotted a truck with a trailer and an empty orange platform blocking the road. That was the only route available. He came to a halt, causing Jay to stop beside him.
"Show him first!" Demitra yelled to Jay. He immediately understood her cue and pedaled faster, lifting his bike to reach the truck's platform. There was only one way back to the road, and that was to ride up to the edge and drop down onto the ground below.
Now Demitra understood why Dom had hesitated. The drop from the platform was dangerously high.
"WOOAHH! THE SUPER ROOKIE DOES IT AGAIN! HE'S FLYING!" the crowd erupted with excitement. From a distance, Demitra saw Jay actually make it to the edge and drop his bike onto the ground. He stayed airborne for a moment, which only fueled the crowd’s cheers.
Demitra quickly glanced to the side of the truck, hoping for a way out for Dom and June. She knew they wouldn’t be able to handle such a high drop. A grin spread across her face when she noticed the truck's door was slightly open, offering a narrow escape route for them, even if it was a tight squeeze.
"Fuck it."
A gasp echoed through the crowd as Demitra stood up on her bike, determination etched on her face. With swift precision, she lifted one foot from the pedal, shifting her weight to the left side. In one fluid motion, she swung her left foot toward the truck's door, kicking it with all her might. The sound of splintering metal filled the air as the door broke free and swung wide open.
She quickly lifted her bike to avoid any damage, her eyes darting back to Dom, who was still trailing behind. With a fierce look of encouragement, she signaled him to move forward.
“What just happened? Did she really break that door so easily?” Mia exclaimed, disbelief flooding her voice as she watched the unfolding drama on the screen.
Minu’s face lit up with amusement. “She saw that the door was old and weak. She took the opportunity to break it, creating a path for Dom and June.”
“How did she even think of that?” Aria asked, eyes wide with surprise.
“Because she’s a princess,” Minu replied nonchalantly, causing his girlfriend to furrow her brow. He glanced at her, a silent understanding passing between them, but then looked away. Mia sensed there was something deeper between them that she couldn’t quite grasp, and she was eager to uncover it.
Meanwhile, in the office, Nick sat with Mr. Nam, watching the spectacle unfold on the TV. “She hasn’t changed at all,” he remarked, a hint of admiration in his voice.
"One minute and thirty seconds left!" the announcer's voice echoed through the arena, and the tension surged.
Chaos rippled among the crowd. The spectators, engrossed in the race, didn't know where to look—at the ticking timer displayed on the screen or the Hummingbird crew racing against time. Teams who had already been disqualified from League of Street watched intently, their attention riveted on the extreme round, where Hummingbird was the first to take the plunge.
Then, the atmosphere shifted as Wooin arrived at the event. Eyes shifted toward him, murmurs spreading through the crowd.
"They're late. Good thing their team wasn't drawn from the box, or they'd be disqualified," some whispered.
But Wooin ignored them, his gaze locked on the screen where the camera focused on Jay Jo. His fist clenched at the sight. He knew this man was the reason his plans for Demitra had crumbled.
Joker appeared at his side. "We can't risk her being in trouble. We can't talk to her now," he reminded Wooin in a hushed tone.
Wooin smirked darkly. "Who said I'd talk to her?" he replied, his voice ominous as he glanced at Joker. "Soon, she'll realize we were right. She'll come crawling back, crying for us. I'll make sure of it." A sinister laugh escaped his lips.
"She will," Hyuk agreed, nodding beside him.
Meanwhile, on the track, Demitra licked her lips behind her facemask, eyes sharp with focus. "Dom, go!" she called out. Dom’s eyes blazed with determination as he accelerated toward the bowl area, June close behind him, and Demitra bringing up the rear. Jay was already near the finish line.
"We're right behind you, Dom!" June's voice broke the tension, steadying Dom's nerves as he began to falter, his pace slowing. The fear of not making it out of the bowl gripped him. But June’s encouragement gave him the strength to push through, despite the burning in his legs.
Finally, Dom burst out of the bowl, followed closely by June and then Demitra.
"Thirty seconds!" the announcer shouted.
Dom gritted his teeth. "Here we go, fuckers," he muttered, picking up speed, his bike roaring as he pushed forward. They were closing in on Jay now, the finish line coming into view.
"You can do it..." Mia whispered to herself, glued to the screen.
"They’re not gonna make it," Aria muttered nervously, her hands gripping the phone tightly.
Just as Dom and June neared the finish line, a loud horn blared, echoing through the track. Dom's eyes widened in horror as a massive truck sped toward them from the left side, aiming straight for Jay and Demitra.
"Watch out!" Dom screamed.
The truck was enormous, barreling down with terrifying speed. Demitra's heart raced, adrenaline flooding her veins as the looming vehicle threatened not just their bikes but their lives. Jay reacted first, jerking his handlebars to the side, riding up the wall to narrowly escape.
Demitra followed suit, leaning hard into a curve as her bike slipped just beneath the truck. She felt the sting as her elbow grazed the ground, the bike so low that it scraped the asphalt. She cursed under her breath, pain shooting through her arm.
"With 10 seconds to spare, Hummingbird crossed the finish line!"

I knew right away that something had happened earlier while Mia and I were away. From Dom's behavior and the way they looked at us when we arrived, they seemed uneasy. I didn't let on that I noticed their actions. I sighed and ran my fingers through my fake blonde hair. Why do I have the feeling that Gramps told them something about me? Frustration was written all over my face as I walked out of the school with Mia. We immediately saw the boys waiting for us outside by the car.
"I just realized that blonde suits you, Demitra. You look different!" Dom said, watching me as I walked. I glanced at Jay, who was now avoiding looking at me. Relief washed over me; he better keep avoiding me because I literally don't trust myself around him. I can't even control my actions when I'm near him.
"Yeah, but I think I still need to wear a mask. Shelly and I don't have the same features, obviously," I said with a laugh, which Dom awkwardly echoed as he scratched the back of his neck. I looked over at Minu when he held out a hair tie. I furrowed my brows.
"Shelly ties her hair when she rides."
Oh! Of course. How could I forget that?
"Oh, noted. I thought she just liked to show off her beautiful blonde hair to the audience," I joked as I tied my hair. The three guys remained silent, which annoyed me. They know something, I just know it.
"And also, she always wears these gloves. They're her favorite," Mia said excitedly, handing me a pair of black and blue gloves. I almost scoffed. Do I really have to completely imitate her?
"You know, if Shelly were here, she would have liked you as a friend." I felt as if a bucket of cold water had been dumped on me at Mia's words. I froze, staring at her before quickly looking away. I almost tore the gloves I was holding.
"Uh, Mia? Come on, let's head to the car," Minu interjected, though I could hear the panic in his voice and didn't understand why. Confusion was evident on his girlfriend's face, but she went along with him. They had their own car, and I guess I was riding with Jay in Dom's car.
"We should go. We can't be late, guys," June said with a smile as he opened the door for me. I smiled at June. When I noticed that Jay was also getting in the back seat, I immediately moved away.
"I'll sit in the front," I said, opening the door to the passenger seat. Dom's driver looked surprised.
"kid, that's my master's seat—"
"hey, it's alright," Dom said to his driver. "Are you sure you want to sit there? You could sit in the back; it's safer there—"
I cut Dom off when my eyes met Jay's. I laughed and shook my head. "I'm fine here, Dom. Don't worry."
When the car started, I heard June clear his throat. I looked at him through the rearview mirror. I saw Dom and June exchanging signals, seemingly deciding who would speak up. Meanwhile, Jay had his eyes closed, head tilted back, resting against the seat.
"Demitra..." I glanced at June. "Uhh-we've decided that we need to keep you out of sight from the audience, since what we're doing clearly breaks the competition rules," June said cautiously. "We just don’t want you to get into trouble," he added, his concern unmistakable. I felt a comforting warmth in my chest and hoped that his concern was sincere. I didn’t want to jump to conclusions about how much they cared for me, just because they wanted to protect me.
"We know you're really talented, and we can't deny that. Like, come on, you could probably win this right away," Dom said. "But I think it would be better if you stayed behind June, you know..." He couldn't finish his sentence.
"You mean to be just a display, I got it." I chuckled. "And besides, I don’t really plan on taking this too seriously because, as you said, your team is relying on me. One mistake, and I could jeopardize the Hummingbird," I said with a nod. June sighed with relief while Dom watched my face, trying to read my reaction. I avoided his eyes.
"And after this, you won't need me anymore, right? Hopefully, in the next round, they won't require a full team."
"Yeah, we hope so. We don't want to take advantage of your kindness. This is more than enough," June said, and I didn't respond. I could feel my chest tightening. After all of this, I would be out of their circle. Why does it hurt? I don't even talk to them that much. Maybe I'm just used to their presence, their friendship, the laughs, the jokes, everything. I bit my lower lip as I remembered seeing Nick earlier.
There's no way I would stay at that school. I came to Korea specifically to distance myself from anything related to her, so why would I willingly remain in a place that constantly reminds me of that part of my past? Being here was supposed to be a fresh start, a way to escape the shadows of my history.
My mind was a mess. I had no idea what to do after this race. Should I transfer to another school? But where would I go? Or should I leave Korea, knowing that Shelly might come back? Yet, I can’t just pack up and leave with my debt to Wooin still unpaid. It’s not as simple as walking away—I have responsibilities here that I can't ignore
I didn’t realize we had arrived at the League of Street Racing venue until Dom opened the door for me. I thanked him as I stepped out. It was odd that Yuna wasn’t with us—perhaps she had classes to attend. As soon as I exited the car, I was met by a sea of people. I bowed my head and adjusted my face mask, staying close behind Dom and June, who seemed to understand that I preferred to be shielded by them.
I noticed that Jay was standing beside me, so I subtly moved away while looking at the other crews. I couldn't see the Sabbath team, which was a huge relief. I knew Wooin would be furious if he saw me here.
"Stop it." Jay suddenly spoke next to me, startling me. He had been so quiet earlier. What's up with him now? Wait, was he talking to me? "You’re supposed to stick close to me." His cold voice sent a shiver up my spine. My ears grew warm, and I looked away.
"So she's clingy, huh?" I teased.
He glared at me, but his eyes weren’t angry. It was just...there was no emotion. As usual. "Don’t avoid me. It’s too obvious." He turned his gaze away from me. I almost let out a sigh. I had no choice but to move closer to him. Our arms touched. I looked up at him, checking if what I did was okay, but he had no reaction, as if he expected me to do it.
"Why did the crowd suddenly get bigger?" Dom asked irritably, running a hand through his hair.
"GO HUMMINGBIRD! WE LOVE YOU!" Girls were cheering, obviously for Jay, not the whole crew. How did I know? They were literally looking at Jay with stars in their eyes. Damn, this boy is popular.
"I know. That's why we need to be careful," June whispered to us. I just nodded.
"Isn't it just me, or has Shelly shrunk?" I winced at the comment.
"Ha," I scoffed. "They even memorize your team's height. Can you believe it?" I murmured to Jay. I didn’t expect him to respond because I knew he wouldn’t.
The MC took to the stage, and the crowd erupted with excitement. I glanced at the big screen, which was showing us and the other crews. The Monsters were here, and I’d heard they were quite skilled. If I weren’t here to replace Shelly, I’d love to compete against them. They seemed interesting.
"ARE YOU ALL EXCITED FOR THIS NEW ROUND?" the MC shouted, prompting the crowd to yell even louder. "I know, I know. It's been so long, and I know you’ve all been waiting for this to happen again. And let me tell you, this round is not just any round. It will make your jaw drop!"
Everyone screamed in excitement. I straightened up, my eyes narrowing as I noticed a box in the middle of the stage. It seemed the MC was about to draw a name. My mind immediately started hoping that Hummingbird wouldn’t be chosen, even though I didn’t know what it was for yet.
"As you can see, there's a box here. I'm going to draw to see which team will face the most challenging and dangerous test where they won’t have an opponent! YES! YOU HEARD ME RIGHT! They won’t be racing against anyone else; they just need to complete the bloodiest race of all!"
My heart stopped at the announcement. My eyes widened as the screen showed the narrowest path I’d ever seen in my life. Not only that, but there were massive vehicles there, and there was a bowl where the bike had to ride along the wall to get out. You can only see it in a skatepark. This is...weird. Out of all the videos I’ve watched about the League of Street Racing, none of the rounds were like this.
I glanced to the side of the stage and saw a man in a black hoodie and facemask. When he noticed I was looking at him, he turned away. I poked the inside of my cheek with my tongue in frustration. I smelled something fishy here.
“We're so dead,” Dom muttered under his breath.
"The mechanics for this race are simple: you must reach the finish line within the given time, which is only 3 minutes! Every member of your team needs to make it to the finish line, and if even one is left behind, your team will be immediately disqualified. The crew will not be able to continue to the next round," the MC said with a grin, swirling his hand inside the box filled with papers.
"Are they crazy? Why would they do something like this?!" I hissed, frustration etched across my face. June looked troubled, while Dom seemed deep in thought. I glanced at Jay, who was now watching the MC prepare to draw the first team to race.
"You're the only one with experience for this," Dom said, drawing everyone's attention. "I know it sounds like we're asking a lot, but you're our only chance to get everyone across the finish line—"
"Dom—" Jay tried to interrupt, but Dom spoke again.
"Jay, can't you see that? That's a race of death. Demitra is our only chance, so stop complicating things. Come on, man," he snapped at his friend. I was taken aback by his urgency and raised my hand to stop them from arguing.
"Hey, what's going on here? Just chill. We're at a race," I interjected. "I may have experience, but that's not the only key to reaching the finish line." I sighed and looked at the big screen. "All we need is to help each other. Dom, you're our sprinter. Do you remember what I taught you last time about the positions to control your speed better?" I asked, and he nodded.
"The top tube safe is a position you can use to get out of the bowl section quickly. I know you're scared of the curve, but believe me, once you do this, you'll be on the surface in no time," I explained. I got on the bike to demonstrate the position to June. "This position can increase your speed by 17%. It may look scary, but it's safer on a bike than on a skateboard."
"Noted. All I need to do is get into that position and close my eyes, right?" I sensed the fear in his voice.
I shook my head in amusement. "I mean, you can try, but I don't think you can close your eyes. It would only make your fear worse."
I turned to June. "Don't worry about me, Demitra. I was listening while you were teaching Dom. I've got it."
I sighed in relief. I was startled when Jay approached me and tightened my helmet on my head. "You may excel at this, but you still need to be careful. This isn't a skatepark," My heart raced faster.
"I don't need to teach you, right?" I whispered with a teasing tone. He held my gaze.
"All I need is to finish this race and for you to be careful. We don't want you to get hurt." We? Or him? It's like he's using his friends as an excuse. Oh, come on! I can't believe I'm thinking this way. What is he doing to me?
"I'm more capable than you think." I wanted to tell him that I've experienced more dangerous races than this one, but he doesn't need to know that.
"I know." I froze and stared at him. His words seemed to carry deeper meaning, as if he was hinting at something.

"Can somebody tell me why you still plan on continuing this race when you're short on members?!" Principal Nick shouted, his voice echoing in the room. Dom, Jay, and June bowed their heads, unable to respond, feeling the weight of the principal's words. They were on the brink of panic, fearing their participation in the race might be canceled since Demitra was still missing.
Rossi was also present, arms crossed, leaning against the wall, observing the Hummingbird team. The principal had called this meeting upon hearing that Hummingbird still planned to compete despite their lack of members. Dom scratched the back of his neck, eyes downcast.
"We can't stop now, sir. We're so close to the championship," Dom said softly, silencing the room.
The principal massaged his temples. "You don't understand. How can you proceed when you're falling apart? My granddaughter is in England! Your friend Vinny has joined another crew. And now the League of Street requires a full member count. What are you going to do?" he said, clearly distressed. Rossi shook his head.
Mia hesitated before raising her hand. "Sir, actually, we don't have a problem with the number of members. We've found someone to temporarily replace Shelly," she said, her voice wavering. Nick stopped, glaring at them all.
"Then where is she? Where is this girl you're talking about?" he demanded. Jay clenched his fists.
"I'm sorry I'm late!"
Everyone turned toward the door. Relief washed over their faces. Aria clapped her hands in delight while Mia exhaled a sigh of relief. Jay stood frozen, staring at Demitra, who was now wearing their uniform—the Hummingbird jacket. June and Dom's faces lit up at the sight of their last hope to continue the race.
The principal's face turned pale when he saw Demitra panting at his office door. It was as if he had been doused with cold water. Rossi straightened up, recognizing Demitra's familiar face but unable to recall where he had seen her before.
"So what's up?" Demitra said, holding her wig.
"Her? She will replace my granddaughter?!" Principal Nick shouted dramatically. Dom jumped in surprise at the principal's outburst, even clutching his chest.
Demitra scratched the back of her neck, forcing a smile. "Hey, gramps. Long time no see."
"You—why the hell are you here in Korea, kid?!" the principal panicked, reaching for his phone to send a message to someone.
"Why are they suddenly speaking English?" Dom asked, cleaning his ear with his finger. Jay furrowed his brows, watching the principal's panicked expression. He looked like he had seen a ghost.
"You know each other?" Minu asked, glancing between Demitra and the principal. The principal ignored the question, continuing to speak to Demitra in English, leaving the others puzzled.
"Wow, so it's great then! The principal knows Demitra," June said, smiling at Jay, but stopped when he saw his friend staring at Demitra. "Hey, you okay?" he asked, but Jay just shook his head.
"It's a long story," Demitra said, irritation clear in her voice as she spoke to Nick. She turned to Mia. "Hey Mia, would you help me put on this wig? I don't know how to do this thing." She walked into the office and pulled Mia out.
"Do her parents know she's here?" the principal suddenly asked. Everyone exchanged glances, unsure of what to say. The principal's face was serious while Mr. Nam fiddled with his phone.
"She doesn't really talk about her family that much, sir," June forced a laugh. "Actually, she's really quiet when she's with us." There was a hint of regret in his voice, as if he felt guilty for not talking to Demitra more. He wondered if Demitra felt out of place with them.
"Even I wouldn't be happy if I were in her situation," Mr. Nam said, shaking his head in disappointment. "You made her replace Shelly temporarily, and what's your plan after that? Just discard her?"
He looked at the group sternly. "Do you have any idea who Demitra is or her background before letting her join your crew?" Mr. Nam gripped his phone tightly as he finally remembered where he had seen her before. He couldn't believe he was seeing the girl who was famous in England here in Korea.
Everyone in the room exchanged confused glances, unsure of how to respond. Minu cleared his throat, breaking the silence. "All we know is that she knows how to ride a bike," he said, his voice tinged with uncertainty.
The principal massaged his temple, clearly frustrated. "Of course, she does! She's been in the underground. She was called a princess for a reason," he said, his voice rising with each word. "Kids, do you have any idea what you've gotten yourselves into? She quit riding years ago!"
Jay's eyes widened as the principal's words sank in. The room seemed to go into slow motion as he processed the information. How could the girl he'd been teaching Korean have such a secret past? He tightened his jaw.
"What the hell is the underground?" Dom exclaimed.
"Sir... I'm sorry, but I think we're not quite catching up—" June began, but Mr. Nam cut him off.
"Underground is a place in England where illegal activities like gambling happen, including racing. The winner takes home money. Racing in underground became famous because of Demitra. Many skilled riders from different countries came to the underground just to race against her." Mr. Nam sighed as he showed them pictures of Demitra in mid-air on her bike. "She's one of the most dangerous bike riders, having won many races. Athletes tried to recruit her, but she refused every offer."
Yuna and Aria gasped, and surprise was written all over the boys' faces, especially Jay. He dropped his gaze to the floor. For all the time they spent with Demitra, they had learned nothing about her. She had been so quiet, and this was the secret she had been hiding? Dom dramatically clutched his head and turned away, disbelief still on his face.
"So it wasn't a coincidence that she knows so much about biking and teaches us? That's why she's so fast when we saw her at the skatepark!" Dom said, staring blankly.
"I can't believe it," June muttered.
"I knew something was weird about her," Yuna said.
"Are you saying, sir, that Demitra is better than Jay?" Aria's question made everyone stop. They all looked at Jay, who was staring at Mr. Nam, waiting for the answer. He wanted to hear it. He wanted to know if Demitra was truly better, even though he already knew the answer.
"Demitra's ability is that she can counter the skills of her opponents," the principal answered. "And she has beaten Owen once."
Everyone gasped at the revelation. Jay stood frozen, Demitra's words echoing in his mind: "I'm the one who taught him that." She had said it when teaching him the curve lean, referring to Owen. It was clear now—her abilities were far beyond what any of them had imagined. Jay clenched his fists, feeling a mix of shock and admiration.
"If she beat Owen from High Calvary... it means..." Minu looked at Jay. "She's stronger than all of us. Including Jay."
The room fell silent, the gravity of the situation sinking in. They couldn't deny that some of them had underestimated Demitra, not knowing the depth of her skills and the experiences she had gone through. The realization hit them hard, especially Jay, who now understood just how much he had to learn from her. His respect for her grew immensely.
Principal Nick sighed, glancing at the team. "You need to rethink your strategy. Demitra's presence can be a game-changer, but only if you work together and respect what she brings to the table."
Minu nodded, his earlier nervousness replaced with resolve. "We need to support her, and each other. This is our chance to make things right and win."
"Fuck, I'm so glad we didn't end up facing her as an opponent. We would've lost from the start!" Dom exclaimed.
"I still can't believe it. I have to admit I'm thankful Demitra is with us, but what if people start asking questions? What if they find out Demitra isn't Shelly?" June said nervously.
"We're not using her." Everyone turned to Jay, who finally spoke after everything. "We can win this without her help."
Dom frowned. "Wait, you said we need her help before. And now you want her to just be a display?"
"Yes," Jay replied, looking at Mr. Nam. Minu cleared his throat, deciding to clarify Jay's point.
"I think what Jay means is we can't risk our crew being exposed if people find out she's not Shelly. We also don't know why she quit biking, so we should keep her involvement low-key," he explained.
"You're right," Dom said, nodding. "Damn, you're all smart." while making a funny faces.
After they made their decision as a group, they bid their teacher and the principal goodbye. Jay's mind was still in a state of chaos; something about Demitra kept distracting him. He stopped by the window of the principal's office and leaned against it.
"Sir," Jay heard Mr. Nam call out to the principal, "It looks like you know her? She called you gramps."
The principal sighed, looking frustrated. "I did something terrible to her before. I don't even know if she has forgiven me yet," he said, massaging his temple. Jay looked out the window, both to eavesdrop and to watch the people talking inside.
"Isn't she Shelly's friend?" Mr. Nam crossed his arms.
The principal shook his head. "Not anymore. You know I liked Owen for my granddaughter, right? So I arranged a marriage for them to be together when they came of age. But Demitra found out about that and got mad." Nick stood up and held the picture frame of his granddaughter on the desk.
Rossi remained silent, waiting for the principal to continue, just as Jay did. His girlfriend was involved in this conversation, so he felt he had the right to listen to the principal's secrets.
"I didn't even know Demitra and Owen had a relationship!" the principal exclaimed, frustration evident in his voice. "Owen told me they had broken up, but the truth was he just wanted to be with my granddaughter. Demitra was betrayed by both him and me. She was almost like a granddaughter to me too, Rossi," he added, guilt heavy in his tone. Jay froze and his eyes widened, the connection between Demitra and Owen becoming clearer. They had a relationship before. Shaking his head, he walked away from the office.
"Damn it," he muttered.

"What the hell are you doing here?" Vinny immediately exclaimed to Demitra as she came out of the restroom. The woman continued walking towards the sofa, wiping her hair. Vinny's face was filled with bewilderment, and he was getting annoyed because there was a woman staying when it should have been him. Demitra couldn't blame him though; it was obvious that Wooin hadn't told him the reason.
"Ask your leader, asshole."
And that infuriated him. Instead of responding to Demitra, he stormed into Joker's room and knocked loudly. He probably knew that his leader was in there, but little did he know Joker might be fucking with that man. Vinny knocked so forcefully on the door, almost breaking it.
But Demitra was mistaken when Wooin came out with a bored expression on his face. Hajun followed him, now dressed. Demitra's cheeks flushed as she remembered what happened earlier, so she just looked away.
"What is she doing here?" Vinny's voice seethed with restrained anger as he spoke to his friends.
"She'll be staying until tomorrow," Wooin replied casually, seemingly unfazed by Vinny's irritation. He turned on the large TV in front of Demitra.
Demitra rolled her eyes, realizing Wooin wasn't going to answer Vinny's question, so she decided to speak up. "They've forbidden me from racing with the Hummingbird."
Vinny froze. "What?" His expression darkened, brows furrowing deeply.
Wooin scoffed, a sarcastic laugh escaping him. "Demitra wants to join your old friends in racing. Can you believe it?" He shook his head incredulously.
Vinny clenched his jaw, his expression unreadable to Demitra. She couldn't tell if he was angry or disappointed by what he had just learned.
"Let me race with them. I won't even take the race seriously," Demitra complained, tossing the towel aside.
Vinny sighed heavily before shaking his head. "No, you'll stay here as they said," he said firmly, causing Demitra's jaw to drop in disbelief.
"Why? Are you all afraid I might beat your crew?" she challenged, her voice sharp.
This seemed to trigger something in Vinny again, his anger resurfacing. "We're not afraid of you. You're just a skateboard girl who knows nothing," he retorted, causing Demitra to look at him incredulously. She shot a meaningful glance at his friends. So they hadn't told him that, too? She clicked her tongue, unable to believe Vinny was once again belittling her.
"what's the problem then?" Demitra spat. "I'm not racing to win. I'm just filling in for Shelly because they're short-handed. And based on the videos, she's not even that fast—"
"She's not what you think. She's not weak," Vinny interrupted almost shouted.
Demitra was taken aback. He had quickly defended her former friend, but when it came to her, Vinny seemed intent on demeaning her. Anger surged within Demitra; she almost exploded. Being underestimated like this was her least favorite thing, especially being told she knew nothing about biking when clearly she knew more than Shelly did.
"Oh yeah? Isn't it a bit unfair that you're quick to think I'm weak, but not Shelly? We're both girls," Demitra challenged, tilting her head mockingly.
Vinny shook his head as he remembered that he had insulted Demitra when they first met at the club. Demitra simply repeated his words from that day.
"I'm done with this," Vinny said, turning to leave, but Demitra spoke up suddenly.
"You're so full of yourself, Vinny. If you think I can't beat you just because I'm a girl, then you're fucking wrong. Even if all of you teamed up, I'd still beat you," she declared defiantly, scanning the room. Vinny halted, fury igniting in his eyes. Wooin chuckled, while Joker observed silently.
"Who do you think you are?" Vinny stepped closer to her. Demitra smirked and met his gaze defiantly, refusing to back down as Vinny looked down at her.
"Demitra Roberts. You should do you research properly before talking to me. Dumbass," Demitra quipped, lightly pushing him on the chest before walking away, heading for the spare room. She slammed the door behind her, leaving Wooin amused by the unfolding drama, finding entertainment in it all.
Vinny clenched his fists and stared at the door in disbelief. Wooin's laughter didn't help, especially now that he didn't understand Demitra's last remark.
"You better go apologize to her, man," Wooin tapped his shoulders, but Vinny slapped his hand away as he walked off. Frustration etched his face. He suddenly felt guilty, though he tried to convince himself otherwise. He couldn't believe Demitra had talked back like that.
"And why would I? What did she even mean by that?" He hissed, running his hand through his hair.
"She knows Shelly better than you. They're friends," Joker replied, taking a sip of canned alcohol.
"Ex-friends," Wooin added, adding to Vinny's confusion.
Vinny's heart raced, not out of anger this time, but because he realized he had crossed a line with Demitra. He had insulted her, something he never did even to his ex-girlfriend Yumi. But with Demitra, he had done it. He bit his bottom lip, unable to accept that he was feeling jealous. He had no excuse for his insult when they first met, but now he realized it stemmed from jealousy.
Seeing how close Jay and Demitra had become drove him crazy. With so many people around, why did it have to be that guy?
"Demitra is not just an ordinary skateboard girl, Vinny. She's more than that," Wooin tossed his cellphone, and Vinny caught it.
When he played the video, Vinny's face went pale. It showed Demitra racing against a man. But that wasn't all. There were also clips of her competing with riders from different nationalities. Each time Vinny switched to another video, he witnessed Demitra consistently winning races. What shocked him even more was seeing her use a trail bike, renowned for its challenging handling compared to cross-country bikes.
"Damn it," he muttered, tossing the phone back to Wooin.
Wooin smiled. "She's so fucking perfect, isn't she? Can't wait to make her mine," excitement glinted in his eyes.
Vinny looked at him irritably. "Why didn't you guys tell me about this? Why am I just finding out now?" He was angry.
"What for? Didn't you dislike her anyway?" Wooin scoffed.
"That's still not a reason! If you plan on including her in the crew, I should also know these things ," he almost shouted.
"We're still considering it," Joker shot Wooin a warning glance. "Based on our investigation, she didn't want to join the races and she didn't want to bike anymore. She was forced into it."
"Then why would she join the fucking Hummingbird?"
"Because your old friends are idiots," Wooin said firmly, lowering his gaze. "They don't even know who they're talking to. They should be thankful my plan worked to keep Demitra here until tomorrow, or else I'd be the one fighting those idiots in tomorrow's race if they included her." He jabbed his cheek in frustration.
The next morning, Demitra woke up to the sunlight streaming through her bedroom window. Rubbing her eyes, she reached under her pillow for her phone. She cursed under her breath upon seeing a flood of messages in her inbox, mostly from the Hummingbird crew. She rubbed her temples before sitting up in bed.
Mia: hey, are you sure you're coming?
we're getting worried. you're not answering our messages.
Dom: Change of plans. We need to go to school first. Mr. Nam called us for a meeting.
Demitra massaged her temples. "Ah, fuck," she muttered. She hadn't touched her phone last night because of her anger toward Vinny.
She paused when she noticed a message from Jay.
Jay: where are u?
She nervously bit her nails. How was she going to explain that she couldn't make it? And it was already too late for her to join the tournament. She was about to lie back down when her phone buzzed again. It was from an unknown number.
Unknown number: Get out of your room now unless you want me to drag you out myself.
Demitra's blood boiled again at the message because she knew exactly who sent it. There was only one person who could speak to her like that. It was Vinny. She quickly got up and stormed out of her room. She found Vinny leaning against the wall as if he had been waiting for her to come out.
"What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be at the race?" Demitra snapped angrily. Vinny glanced down at her outfit. She was only wearing one of Wooin's oversized shirts, which revealed her long, creamy legs. She avoided his gaze and felt her ears burn with embarrassment.
"You still have one hour left to get ready. So hurry up," he said, turning away as he played with the keys to his motorcycle in his hand.
"What?" Demitra exclaimed in surprise. She followed Vinny and was shocked to find the bouncers lying on the floor. "You didn't…
"Are you coming or not?" Vinny interrupted impatiently, giving her a sharp look.
Demitra glared at him sharply. Instead of arguing, she calmed herself down. She thought maybe this was Vinny's way of making amends for what he did last night. Perhaps he didn't know how to apologize properly, so he was doing it this way.
"I don't have clothes--"
"Those are your clothes. So you better hurry up before I leave you here. I have no time to waste," Vinny pointed to the sofa filled with shopping bags from upscale brands. Demitra looked surprised, glanced at Vinny, but he was already walking away. She couldn't help but smile to herself.
"Fine, this is just for now, but I'm still mad at you," she whispered under her breath.
Demitra’s mind was filled with questions. Not only had Vinny allowed her to join the race, but he had also taken her to her apartment to grab her wig. Vinny was silent throughout the entire ride, making Demitra uneasy. She wasn't used to them not bickering or arguing. She bit her lower lip as she got off Vinny's motorcycle. They were at Sunny High, and she still couldn't believe that Vinny had brought her to her school.
"Won't Wooin be mad if he finds out you let me escape?" she asked without looking at him.
"I can handle them." Vinny stared at her for a moment before licking his lower lip and looking away. "After this, you'd better come back to us." Those were his last words before he sped off on his motorcycle. Demitra's heart raced at his statement.
When her phone started ringing, Demitra panicked. She sprinted into the building, heading straight for the principal's office. She bumped into several students in her rush. By the time she arrived at the office, she was out of breath. To her surprise, she saw June, Jay, Dom, Yuna, Minu, Aria, and Mia standing in front of the principal's desk.
"I'm sorry I'm late!" she exclaimed, clutching her chest as she tried to catch her breath.

author's note: i just want to inform you all that I've already posted this story on AO3. my account name is IvelleSerenity. it's a bit more detailed there compared to here on Tumblr.
✧˖° — windbreaker men
✧˖° — mdni, smut, description of not safe for work content.
✧˖° — this is a story not one shot.
I saw the door open. Joker entered with a dog in his arms. I raised an eyebrow at him.
Great, just great. Wooin's threat turned out to be real. Now I'm trapped in what seems like the most luxurious room, resembling a penthouse. I never knew this club had something like this. We're on the top floor, indicating it's exclusively for VIPs. Bouncers stationed outside prevent any chance of escape. I'm almost tempted to smash this window just to break free.
"I have no time for pets," I said coldly, but he ignored me. I watched as he set the dog down on the floor. It trotted over to me, but I just stared at it. I heard him call the dog and feed it. I watched in amusement. I couldn't believe he was into animals. How could someone accustomed to violence have such a soft spot for animals?
"Have you eaten?" he asked, opening the fridge. I rolled my eyes.
"I don't need to eat. I need to go home," I said sarcastically.
He gave me a blank look. "Wooin said you're staying here until tomorrow. Don't be difficult."
I scoffed. "This is kidnapping, for your information." I crossed my arms in front of him. He ignored me, which only irritated me more. I watched him heat up pizza in the oven. Clearly, he wasn't much of a cook.
Unlike Jay...
Why am I still thinking of him even in this situation?
"What's your relationship with Wooin?" I leaned against the island countertop. He paused at that.
"It's none of your business."
My jaw dropped. "Wow, after everything that happened earlier, you're seriously going to say it's none of my business? I have a right to know, especially since your boyfriend seems to have a thing for me," I insisted. He looked at me, his eyes completely emotionless.
"Why would I tell you if you're just going to choose the Hummingbird anyway?" I faltered at his words. He shook his head in disappointment and turned away to tend to the pizza he had warmed up. "Ask me later if you don't have plans to race with them."
My brows furrowed at his statement. Why were they so angry at the Hummingbird? Was it just because they were rivals in tournaments? Couldn't they be friends outside of racing? They were so confusing. They kept telling me to stay away from the Hummingbird, but they never gave me a valid reason. I couldn't just distance myself from them because they wanted me to.
Actually, I should be the one to stay away from them. Vinny destroyed Jay's bike! And I know they were involved. He's one of their members.
"Why do you sound so jealous?" I chuckled. I couldn't believe I was able to joke at a time like this.
As usual, he didn't respond.
"You can have Wooin. Don't worry, I won't go after him," I said as he set the plate down in front of me.
"I'm not even saying anything." He furrowed his brow.
I just shrugged my shoulders and started eating the pizza he had heated up while he stood there, watching me. Our eyes met, and I quickly looked away when I noticed his gaze drop to my lips. I cleared my throat and pointed at the doors.
"There's a lot of room here. Do you live here?" I asked, looking around. The place was enormous, like a penthouse. It made me think of my apartment, which was nothing like this. This was luxurious. Only those with money could afford something like this.
He just nodded and placed a glass of water in front of me.
"Including Vinny?" I asked, surprised. I wiped my mouth when I felt something there, using my thumb to remove the sauce from my hand. His gaze remained steady.
"Yes," he replied formally before turning away.
"And I'm supposed to stay here tonight? No way," I said, getting up from the bar chair. I followed him into what I assumed was his bedroom. It was spotless and well-organized, also quite large. I watched him go to his cabinet, pull out a shirt, and toss it to me.
"You have no choice. Just think that you owe something to Wooin," he said. I caught the oversized t-shirt he gave me.
"No shorts?" My cheeks flushed when I realized the only thing I'd be wearing was his t-shirt.
"That's all I have. Now, go." I blinked rapidly as he closed the door in front of me, leaving my jaw hanging open. I was still wearing my P.E. clothes, and I didn't want to put on my pants again since they were dirty from the activity we did earlier. Everything I had was dirty.
I knocked on the door. "Hey! I want to take a shower! Don’t you have a towel?" I shouted, but there was no response from inside. "Damn it," I muttered in frustration before heading to the living room. I glanced at the large window. It was raining, my favorite weather, but thunderstorms were another story. I was terrified of them.
I sighed deeply and sank into the large sofa. Running my hand through my curly hair, I longed to be back at my apartment where my hair care products were. I took good care of my hair because I knew it would look terrible if I didn't. I'd look like I had just escaped from the zoo.
My thoughts were interrupted when the door opened. I saw Wooin enter, looking annoyed. He removed his cap, and I crossed my arms, raising an eyebrow. I knew he saw me sitting there, but he ignored me and headed straight to the mini bar.
"Hello?" I said sarcastically. "In case you forgot, your prisoner is still here. Maybe you'd like to let me go home?" His gaze finally met mine, but his expression didn't change. He poured himself a drink.
"You look filthy. Go take a shower," he said bluntly.
I felt offended by his words. Sure, we had P.E. earlier, but I didn’t roll around in the dirt like Dom did during our activity.
"Fuck you," I cursed and stood up. "Why don’t you give me some proper clothes first? Your boyfriend just gave me his t-shirt!"
That caught him off guard. "He's here?" he asked, and I just rolled my eyes. "Where is he?"
"Locked himself in his room," I said irritably. "You’re rich, right? Why don’t you have your bouncers buy me some underwear and shorts?" I watched him down his drink in one gulp.
"I just paid off your parents' debt. You can deal with it for now," he said casually, which only made my irritation grow. He leaned against the countertop and pointed toward Joker's room. "Go get some of his boxers, so you can finally shut up."
I clenched my fists and stared him down. He didn't look away, meeting my gaze with equal intensity until I finally broke eye contact. Fuming, I decided to follow his suggestion just so I could take a shower. Then, I'd lock myself in one of the rooms. If they wouldn’t let me go home, fine—I wouldn’t eat all day tomorrow. Let’s see if they wouldn’t feel guilty about what they’ve done.
When I opened Joker's door, I was surprised to find the room empty. I walked in and headed to his cabinet, biting my bottom lip as I realized I was about to borrow some of his boxers without asking. But Wooin had suggested it, so it shouldn't be a problem, right?
Letting out a frustrated sigh, I closed the cabinet and decided to find Joker. Maybe he could help me sort out this mess.
I heard a strange noise and stopped in my tracks. It sounded like a grunt, like someone was in pain. It was coming from the bathroom. I didn't know if I should go closer to figure out who it was, but deep down, I knew it was Joker. Was he hurt? I freaked out and walked towards the slightly open door.
I peeked inside and my lips parted in surprise when I saw Joker. He was in the shower, but... he was still fully dressed. His t-shirt was hitched up from him biting on the end, exposing his abs and that tantalizing v-line. He was fucking jerking himself off. I could literally see the frustration and pleasure on his face as he bit into his shirt. Instantly, a wave of heat coursed through my body, especially in my center. Wetness gathered between my thighs, urging me to clench them together.
"Ah, fuck," he moaned as his clothes fell to the floor. I watched how he quickened his pace, gripping his long, sizable shaft. Heat flooded my face as I witnessed the scene unfold. "Demitra..." he hissed, eyes shut in pleasure.
I gasped as I heard my name escape his lips. Stepping back, a hand covered my mouth. I could sense Wooin standing behind me. "Shh," he whispered in my ear. My eyes widened, trying to swallow the lump in my throat.
"Do you see that?" he mumbled, lowering his hand to grasp both my shoulders. "That's the evidence of our desire for you. You've been ignoring it, but you can't remain blind forever," he rasped. His hand moved down to my waist, his large hands caressing my body.
"What..." I managed to say, my head spinning from the overwhelming sensation of heat coursing through me. My arousal was reaching new heights, feeling almost uncontrollable. It was slipping out of my grasp.
"Say it," he commanded firmly, his hot breath grazing the back of my neck. "Admit that you want this as much as we do."
His erection pressed against my back, adding to my inner turmoil.  I couldn't help but grind against him, lost in the moment. His hand traveled down to where he slipped it into my pants, teasing the lace of my panties. I couldn't hold back a gasp as my knees trembled under his touch.
"Fuck..." I bit my lip to stifle any sounds as Wooin teased my clit. I instinctively covered my mouth to prevent Joker from hearing. I gasped as Wooin's fingers entered me, feeling the intense grip of his touch through my clothes. We both were aware of how wet I had become.
"You're dripping wet, Princess," he remarked with amusement. I shook my head in denial. "I knew it, you want this so badly. You're such a good slut for us, aren't you?" My lips parted as he slid two fingers inside me.
I whimpered as he quickened the pace of his movements. Along with his penetration, he rubbed my most sensitive bud, even cupping my breast over my shirt. I knew I should stop him, but I couldn't. I couldn't believe that instead of being angry at Wooin's name-calling, it only heightened my arousal.
"w-wait..." I tried to protest, reaching for his wrist, but he only increased the speed of his fingers, driving me wild. I was on the brink, it had been so long since I had felt this pleasure. I had never touched myself because I didn't have a reason to.
"Yes... Come for me, Princess. That's it," he whispered, and my eyes rolled back in pleasure as I reached my peak. My pussy throbbed, and my knees weakened as I leaned against Wooin. He withdrew his hand from my pants, his fingers coated with my juices. Blushing in embarrassment, I watched as he brought his fingers to his mouth and licked them.
I pushed him away, and he protested. Startled, I looked over towards the door to see Joker leaning against the frame, his upper half exposed, indicating he had just finished showering. There's a towel covered his bottom.
"Do you see her face when she came?" Wooin grinned, gesturing towards me. "Imagine if we fuck her. Damn, I'm so hard right now," he exclaimed, the bulge in his pants visible.
"You..." I couldn't believe it. "You two still aren't satisfied with each other? Both of you are..." I shook my head in disbelief and walked away, opening Joker's cabinet to grab a pair of boxers before leaving the room. I heard Joker calling after me, but I didn't respond. As I walked out of the room, I saw Vinny just entering, frozen in surprise when he saw me, raising an eyebrow.
Ignoring him, I continued on my way into the bathroom, closing the door behind me with a slam. I covered my face as I replayed Wooin's touch in my mind. How had I let it escalate to that? Was I really that horny? Of course, who wouldn't be when you find out that three members of the Sabbath crew are interested in you, not to mention their reputation for knowing how to please women.

"They're not using me! They're just asking for my help," I protested.
"And you agreed?" Wooin's tone was almost mocking, laden with insult, making my chest feel even heavier. Why do I feel like I'm being cornered?
"The famous Demitra Roberts, agreeing to be a replacement for an old friend—or should I say an old enemy?" Wooin's face darkened as he spoke. I could hear the sarcasm in his voice. I glared at him.
"Who would imagine you'd agree to replace the woman who was your enemy for so long?" he added, this time laughing.
"Shut the fuck up." I stepped closer to him. "You don't know what you're talking about. Don't act like you know me, so shut your mouth!" my eyes flaring with anger.
"But I do... We all do!" he said with a laugh that shocked me even more. My heart sank at his words.
I looked down and clenched my fists. He knows something—no, they all do. Why am I still surprised? They must have done a background check on me. They might even know my other secrets. It's disheartening to think about. Wooin approached and held my face, forcing me to look up at him. I could feel tears welling up in my eyes, and a familiar pain in my heart. Why am I feeling this again?
"They don't see you as their friend, Demitra," Joker said firmly. I couldn't look at him because Wooin was right in front of me. His eyes were full of amusement, as if my tears were something fascinating.
"For them, you're just a shadow of Shelly. They don't need you. Jay is just fooling you while he waits for his pathetic girlfriend," Hyuk said with disgust.
Why do they have to mention Jay? What else do they know?
"S-So what? I don't even like him, so why would it matter--"
"Yes, you should not," Joker said, as if warning me.
"But don't you hate being compared to her?" Wooin said with a grin. Horror plastered on my face. The tears I had been holding back started to flow.
Please, stop it already. I can't hear it anymore.
"How dare they use you? You're a legend, like us. You're a fucking Princess." He shouldn't use my underground title like that. I've been trying so hard to forget the title given to me back when I was greedy for money. It was all supposed to be in the past. I should be leaving it behind, but what are they doing? They keep bringing it up!
"They don't deserve you. A princess like you should be respected," he said seriously, squeezing my cheeks harder.
"Maybe she just wants to be treated like trash," Hyuk's insult stung, making me feel even worse. I saw a strange look in Wooin's eyes.
"Hyuk," he warned his friend, but Hyuk just shrugged.
My tears flowed freely, making Wooin pause. He immediately let go of me. My whole body trembled from the tension. I nearly collapsed, but Joker caught me for the second time, holding me by the waist. He gave Joker a significant look before I felt Joker's fingers wrap around my neck from behind.
Wooin smiled at the sight he saw. Joker made me face Wooin by wrapping his fingers around my neck and waist. I clenched my fist as Wooin approached me and wiped my cheeks.
"You're mine, do you understand?" he whispered as he looked at me. I could feel the possessiveness in his tone. "You belong to us. We have the right to tell you to stay away from those jerks, especially Jay. They're all losers." he said softly.
Joker's grip tightened but not enough to make me lose my breath. "Can't you see how much we want you, Demitra? Can't you see how much we adore you?" he whispered in my ear. "No? Does Hajun's cock doesn't ring a bell?" After Wooin's words, I felt a strange sensation pressing against me from behind. It didn't take long to realize that it was Joker's erection, rubbing against my body.
Realization dawned on me - they all wanted me. It was a truth that I couldn't ignore. The heat between my thighs grew as the possessiveness in Wooin's words sunk in.
"And you know, I wouldn't mind sharing him," Wooin said, a smirk playing on his lips.
Confusion clouded my mind as I tried to comprehend his words.
Before I could react, Wooin leaned in and kissed Joker beside me.  I watched as he inserted his tongue into Joker's mouth and played with it. I blushed at the sight. This only intensified the heat spreading through my body.
I couldn't quite catch Joker's reaction as Wooin released his grip on him. But what I did see was Wooin licking his lips seductively, shooting Joker a teasing look. And then, I heard Joker mutter a curse under his breath, a clear sign that things were heating up between them.
"Don't be jealous, princess. He could be yours too. But first, you have to be mine," Wooin stated, his thumb grazing my lips.
Stunned, I felt Wooin's lips on mine, his kiss filled with passion and possessiveness. I closed my eyes, feeling a rush of emotions as Joker's kisses trailed along my neck. Lost in the moment, I gave in to the intensity of their desires, unable to resist the pull they had on me. They made me feel special and important in a way I had never experienced before.
Joker bit a sensitive spot on my neck, causing me to let out a moan. Wooin's tongue swirled with mine as his hands roamed all over my body. I gasped when I felt him cupping my breast. The way he touched me let me know he was experienced in this. I could feel how wet I was getting, and Wooin seemed to notice as he paused his actions while Joker continued to give me small kisses on the back of my neck.
"Join us," he insisted again. "Join us and we'll fuck you until you forget everything else." his voice was deep and filled with danger.
I looked at Hyuk, who was just standing there watching us with a stern look. Was he in on this too?
"He wants you just like we do. He's just making sure you'll agree to our conditions." Wooin chuckled.
I shook my head. "No," I said firmly, giving him a sharp look. "I don't want to join your group. And don't make me one of your whores, Wooin." I said definitively.
His expression turned blank. After I spoke, even Joker paused but remained silent. I watched as Wooin clenched his jaw in disbelief and anger.
"Yeah?" he retorted sarcastically. "Then you leave me with no choice. You're going to stay here until tomorrow. You will not fucking race with them."
My eyes widened in shock. He can't do that!
"You can't confine me here."
"The hell I can't."
My eyes burned with anger. I had never felt this furious in my entire life. How dare he do this to me? Okay, I know it's my fault for lying to them about joining Hummingbird, but they don't need to interfere with my decisions. I have my own life.
I watched Wooin move away from me and drink his wine in one gulp. He exchanged a look with Hyuk before leaving the room. I was about to follow him when Joker tightened his grip on my waist.
"Stop, you’re just making it worse," Joker murmured.
"Worse? Isn't locking me up here bad enough?" I snapped at him, trying to pry his hands off my waist.
"Why do you want to be with them so badly?" Hyuk said sarcastically, walking closer to me.
"It's not like that. I promised I would help them—"
"Stupid," he shook his head. "You’re so stupid. Wooin just explained everything earlier, but you didn’t listen. You know what? We don’t even need you here. You’ll just be useless with that brain of yours. You’re nothing but a toy to fuck with."
My face flushed with anger and humiliation. I slapped him. Joker quickly stepped between us. I felt the heat from my eyes, tears threatening to fall again. I couldn't believe Wooin said Hyuk liked me when he was treating me like this. I didn’t say anything and let Joker handle him.
Just by looking at them, I could tell they were arguing. Even though part of me wanted Joker to put Hyuk in his place, I didn’t want it to turn into a physical fight.
“You’ve crossed the line. Do it again, and you’ll have to deal with me,” I heard Joker warn him.
“Who do you think you’re scaring, Joker?”
"I'm not scaring you, I'm warning you.” Joker roughly grabbed Hyuk by the collar, and I immediately grabbed Joker's arm. I didn’t want to see them hurt each other! I knew all too well how Joker fought. He’s a boxer, for heaven's sake.
Their attention shifted to me. Hyuk just scoffed before pushing Joker away. I watched Hyuk leave, feeling a wave of relief wash over me. I looked at Joker, who was still staring at me. I rolled my eyes and sat down on the sofa. I wiped my cheek, not wanting to show him how much his friend's words had affected me. It hit me that Joker was the only one who had been kind to me, unlike the other members of his crew. I had made Wooin angry, and now Hyuk too. Were they really that mad at the Hummingbird that they took it out on me too?
“Your friends are assholes,” I muttered.
He didn’t respond.
“I know Wooin is just playing with me. There’s no way you all wanted me like he said. Do you even see how they treat me?” I almost laughed as I grabbed the bottle of expensive liquor from the table. “Maybe this is all part of your plan with Sangho, huh? Maybe you want me close just to hand me over to him.”
I was about to take a swig from the bottle when he snatched it away. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he said coldly.
“Liar,” I shot back.
He set the bottle down on the table and took off his denim jacket, looking overheated.
“We want you, and we’re not lying about that.” His words seemed to etch themselves into my mind.
“You just want to fuck me,” I said quickly, making him stop. He lifted his gaze, then let it travel down my body. I was still wearing my uniform—nothing revealing, just my P.E. outfit.
“Not just me,” he replied, turning away after he said it. My lips parted in shock.

"What does he want from you, Demitra?" Minu asked, turning the attention to me. Panic flooded through me as I looked at Jay, who was waiting for my answer.
"I-I don't know," I stammered. The truth is, I have no idea what Vinny is up to. Why does he want to help me? Isn't he mad at me? I bit my lip, feeling the weight of my words. "But I can say that he's not threatening. Maybe he just wants to mess around with you guys."
"Yeah, he better be bluffing," Jay said, crossing his arms. This time, I won't let it slide if he does something again." Everyone looked surprised by Jay's seriousness.
"He's still our friend, Jay..." Minu started, but Dom cut him off.
"That's not how friends should act," Dom said with frustration. "He has no right to scare people or damage things that don't belong to him."
I stayed quiet, unsure of what to think. I knew I shouldn't get involved in their problems. I wasn't there when their friendship fell apart. I wasn't around for their conflicts. In short, I had no right to speak up. All I could do was talk to Vinny later and ask him to leave me alone.
"Demitra," Dom called out, not looking at me. He was staring at the floor. "Call us if he bothers you again. We won't let anyone harm you. You're part of our group now."
I was stunned by his words and looked at everyone in disbelief. Jay's intense gaze made me wonder if they truly considered me one of them now. Does this mean they're my friends now? But deep down, I knew Vinny wouldn't hurt me. Wooin wouldn't allow that to happen.
And why do you think that, Demitra? Just because you sense that the leader of Sabbath likes you? Gosh, this whole situation is just too much to handle.
"I understand, thank you," I said softly. Mia touched my hand, a smile gracing her face.
"If it weren't for you, this crew wouldn't be improving as much. You're a genius, and thank you for helping us, Demitra."
After she said that, I remembered the times when I taught Jay and Dom about biking. Even this morning during our class, Dom asked for advice on how to increase his speed, and I helped him with all my knowledge in sprinting. It was only now that I realized because of them, I returned to biking, but for a good reason this time.
After our P.E. class, I couldn't shake off what had happened from my mind. I let out a heavy sigh before running my fingers through my hair. I glanced to the side and saw the student council president staring at me, blushing. Some of our classmates were with him. I just rolled my eyes.
I knew they were the reason why my locker was filled with letters and flowers. I didn't expect to attract so much attention here in Korea. I thought I would have a quiet life as a student, but I was completely wrong.
I was startled when my phone rang. I wasn't surprised when I found out who had messaged me.
Wooin: Joker will pick you up there. So be ready.
I let out a sigh and hid my phone. I was surprised when a thick book was placed on my desk. When I looked up, I saw Jay with a serious expression. He adjusted his glasses.
"What is this?" I raised my eyebrow.
"A book," he answered simply.
Irritation crossed my face. "Stop with the sarcasm. What am I supposed to do with this?"
"Do you think my tutoring is finished? You're not even halfway there yet," he leaned against the wall.
I chuckled. "Aren't you supposed to be thinking about the race for tomorrow? Why are you thinking about helping me with my Korean again?" I shook my head.
"My mom isn't home. We can study there," he suddenly suggested. I was surprised by his sudden invitation. I looked at him in surprise, but his face remained serious.
"Maybe next time, Jay—"
“Why?” he quickly asked. “Do you have somewhere to go?”
My heart raced. I could feel the heat rising to the back of my neck. Why is he doing this? Damn it. I should be staying away from you, dumbass! You're just making this situation much worse than I expected.
"Yes," I replied. I smirked. "Don't worry, I'll study hard at home, Sir Jay." I teased, but it didn't change his expression at all. So cold.
As I made my way down the stairs and stepped outside, I immediately noticed Joker’s sleek motorcycle parked nearby. He was leaning against it, arms crossed, with his usual blank expression. This guy is always so hard to read. Maybe he's annoyed that he has to pick me up.
"Wow, I didn't expect you to be the one Wooin sent. I thought it would be Vinny," I joked as he handed me a helmet. It was my first time riding a motorcycle, and I fumbled with the helmet, not sure how to put it on properly.
"Disappointed?" he asked, moving closer to help adjust the helmet on my head. I felt a blush rising to my cheeks.
"Nah, maybe he'd crash his bike if he picked me up. That guy hates me," I joked again, trying to lighten the mood. Joker’s gaze briefly flicked to my lips before he looked away. He then climbed onto his motorcycle and gestured for me to get on behind him.
"Well, I'm the one here. Come on," he said as he started the engine.
I climbed onto Joker's motorcycle, feeling uncertain about where to put my hands. What if I fell off? Panic started to set in as I bit my bottom lip.
"You can hold on there," he said suddenly, pointing to a spot behind him. I felt a bit of relief. "Or you can hold onto my waist if you're really scared."
Why would I do that? My cheeks began to heat up.
"No thanks. I'm fine--FUCK!"
I wasn't sure if Joker did it on purpose, but he sped off so quickly that I had no choice but to grab onto his waist. The motorcycle zoomed ahead at an alarming speed, and I kept my eyes shut the entire ride. I was too terrified to let go until we finally stopped.
"Are you trying to kill me?!" I snapped, shoving the helmet at him angrily. He just tilted his head, giving me a deadpan glare.
Does he really have the right to look annoyed? I should be the one glaring!
We entered the club, and Joker walked ahead, leaving me to follow him. The place was a madhouse, with people dancing, drinking, and shouting. The music was deafening.
A drunk guy bumped into me, nearly knocking me over. Thankfully, Joker caught my elbow, preventing me from falling.
"What the fuck?--Joker!" The guy started to get angry but quickly recognized Joker. Joker stepped closer, his gaze icy.
"You got something to say?" Joker threatened. The guy quickly shook his head, raising his hands as if surrendering. "Get lost," Joker growled, shoving the guy in the chest, making him stumble back.
I shook my head and walked ahead, knowing we were heading to the VIP room to meet Wooin.
As I stepped into the VIP room, my eyes widened at the scene unfolding before me. There was a pole in the center, and dancers - or more accurately, strippers - were performing for Hyuk. I looked around, hoping to spot Vinny, but he was nowhere to be seen. Instead, I saw Wooin sitting back, casually drinking while a woman with long black hair grinding on his lap. She was barely dressed, and I could see him touching her ass as he took a sip of his drink.
My cheeks flushed with embarrassment, and I was about to turn and leave when Joker blocked my path.
"Why did you bring me here, you idiot?" I muttered, feeling irritated and uncomfortable.
"Let me out of here..."
"Is that Demitra?" I heard Wooin's voice, causing me to squint in disbelief.
I put on a fake smile and tried to play it cool. "I see you're all busy. What a great timing huh?"
Hyuk, who was lounging on the sofa, turned his head towards me. "You're pretty quick."
"Your friend seems to have plans to kill me with how fast he drive," I said sarcastically.
"Leave, everyone," Wooin suddenly announced, causing the dancers to stop and the woman on his lap to pause.
"But you said..." annoyance dripped from the woman's voice.
"I'll just come back next time. I'm leaving," I said, but Joker was leaning against the door with his arms crossed.
"Stay here, Princess. We have a lot to talk about," Wooin smirked.
"Do you really need me to win your race? From what I've seen, you guys are already pretty skilled," I remarked, crossing my arms as I watched the girls gather their things and leave the room.
I heard Hyuk scoff. "So, who's gonna tell her?"
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Demitra..." Wooin got up, came over to me, and adjusted his glasses. "You're not here to share your bike knowledge, Princess. You've got your own skills, so why share them with us? We have our own."
My heart skipped a beat at his words. I widened my eyes and pondered his statement. If that's the case, then why did they bring me here?
"Then why did Vinny say you needed me..." I started to question.
Hyuk clicked his tongue while lounging on the sofa. "He just said that to get you here."
My mind was reeling from what I had just learned. What on earth is happening?
Why do I feel like they're not telling the truth? Why does it seem like Vinny was being honest, but he just didn't know this was the plan all along, especially from their leader? My breathing quickens as I stare at the guy in front of me. Joker doesn't want to let me out. Hyuk seems to want this too. What do they want from me? I don't want to think that they all have feelings for me. I'm not that kind of person who thinks the world revolves around her. But their actions suggest otherwise.
Wooin chuckled. "You see, Demitra, you're our secret weapon. Even though we have skilled people like Vinny in our crew, having someone like you makes a real difference to our team."
"You're joking..." I burst out. "A weapon? Are you insane? Didn't I tell you I don't want to be exposed to that biking stuff anymore?" I was starting to get angry. I saw Hyuk shift in his seat. I could feel Joker moving behind me. Wooin's expression changed.
"You don't want to be exposed, you say? Then why are you letting Hummingbird use you?"
Hyuk's words sent a chill through my entire body. He stood up from the sofa and walked towards us. There's no way he knows that. I felt my face pale, so I averted my gaze.
"I- don't know what you're saying..."
He rolled his eyes.
"We know you've been training with Hummingbird," Joker suddenly spoke up from behind me. I turned to him in shock. "We also know they're using you as a replacement for their female rider, Shelly, who's currently in England," he said coldly.

"Jay's out of it again," Dom sighed, watching Jay sitting alone on the bench. It was currently our P.E. class, and we were doing our stretches. Jay, on the other hand, seemed oblivious to the world, sitting on the bench reading a book.
"He didn't eat lunch again. I'm really worried about him," Mia said, lowering her head.
"Damn it, I hate seeing him like this. Why doesn't Shelly even message our friend?" Dom said angrily, throwing the ball down in frustration.
I kept staring in Jay's direction. His friends were getting worried about him, but Jay didn't seem to care because of Shelly. I noticed my bag beside Jay; I had left it there so I could go straight home after P.E. without having to go back upstairs.
"I'm going to get some water," I told Mia and Dom. Mia nodded while Yuna tried to calm Dom down.
When I reached the bench, I grabbed my water bottle for a drink. I was surprised to find a sandwich in my bag that I hadn't eaten earlier. I took it out.
"Do you want?" I offered it to Jay. He paused and looked at the sandwich.
"I'm fine," he said.
"I made it myself. It's really good! Promise!" I said, sitting next to him. He glanced at the sandwich again before putting his book down.
"Fine, thanks," he said.
I smiled widely when he accepted it. I felt proud of myself for getting him to eat. As I watched him, I noticed Dom walking towards us.
"The tournament's tomorrow. I still can't believe we have to ride without Shelly," Dom said worriedly as he approached us.
"You guys trained for a reason. I know you can do it," Minu tried to reassure his friends.
"Why do we have to fall apart when we're so close to the end of the competition?" Dom sat down beside Jay, who was now eating the sandwich.
I just listened to their conversation, not wanting to intrude. I was only here to replace Shelly in the competition. I didn't want to assume they saw me as a friend. I knew my place. Besides, I had no intention of officially joining their crew. Wooin didn't want me getting close to the Hummingbirds, so joining was out of the question. I sighed.
"How about you, Demitra?" Mia's question caught me off guard. I forced a laugh.
"I'll just try my best tomorrow. I think you can win even without my help. You guys are amazing."
I could feel Jay's eyes on me. My actions yesterday were too risky. I can't let that happen again. I really need to control my feelings for Jay. It's embarrassing because he probably sees me as just a friend, while I see him in a different light. I also don't want Shelly to know I'm here. If she finds out, I'll probably transfer to another school.
"We still need your help to win the race," Jay said, stopping my thoughts.
"Of course," I said, scratching the back of my neck in embarrassment.
"We got you a wig," Yuna said, holding out a bag. A wig? For what? "So no one notices you're not Shelly."
I was stunned and had no choice but to nod. I couldn't believe I was going to pretend to be Shelly. If Noah were here, she'd probably laugh at me. She knew how much I hated being compared to her. But here I was, agreeing to her friends' plan.
"Got it," I said softly.
After saying that, they started discussing unfamiliar things related to the race. I overheard Sangho's name being mentioned, which made me even more silent. I noticed that it wasn't just Jay who was looking at me; even Yuna seemed to want me out of there, judging by her glances. Since I didn't want to intrude on their privacy, I moved away from the group. I approached some other classmates and grabbed a ball to play with.
Our teacher was absent. From what Dom said, they called him Mr. Nam. I hadn't met him yet, but based on how Jay and the others seemed to respect him, I figured he must be a great teacher.
My brows furrowed as a ball rolled towards the school's entrance, played by some other classmates. I quickly went to retrieve it. As I picked it up, I nearly dropped it when I saw a familiar guy.
"Vinny?" I exclaimed in surprise. He looked blank and pocketed something. He had a bike with him.
"You're studying here too?" he said with almost a tone of disgust. Perhaps he said that because he knew his former friends were studying here.
I nodded. "What brought you here?" I asked, looking down at the bike.
"Wooin wanted you to come to a race tomorrow to watch," he said, almost stopping my heart. "And he also wants you to know that you should be at the club every night at 8 p.m."
"W-What?" I couldn't process what he was saying.
"I can't go tomorrow," I said quickly. I didn't want them to know that I was one of the racers tomorrow! "And why should I go to the club at night?"
His gaze turned colder. "Have you forgotten the deal you made with Wooin?"
Damn it.
"You need to be there every night before the tournament. He needs you for the strategies we'll be planning for the race," he explained, looking irritated.
"O-Oh..." I nodded. "But isn't Sangho there?" I said nervously.
He fell silent. "Why are you so afraid of him?" he asked seriously.
I clenched my fists. "I told you, I got into a fight with some guys who seemed to work for him. And... those men didn't just want me dead. They tried to touch me." It felt pointless to lie. They would find out eventually.
"They what?" His face darkened. His eyes widened.
I looked away. "But I think they won't chase me here. But still... I don't want to see Sangho—"
"They tried to touch you? Fuck."
I smiled bitterly. "Vinny, do you think it's easy being a female rider in the underground? Not everyone we race against wants to compete fairly. Some of them want to..." I couldn't finish my sentence.
We both fell silent. Maybe he realized I didn't want to talk about it anymore. It was a nightmare. That's why I promised myself I'd never bike again.
"You stay close to Dom," he broke the silence. "He can protect you."
I furrowed my brows. "Why him? Don't you think Wooin can protect me?"
He sighed. "Not like that. Like you said, you don't want any connection with Sangho. Wooin has business with that man, so it's better if you stick with Dom for now," he explained, combing his hair.
"He's part of the Yakuza. He can protect you."
The real question is... Why would he protect me? I'm not even his friend! I'm just his classmate. I don't want to approach Dom just to be protected. I'm not that desperate!
"I think I can protect myself very well, Vinny. Thank you for your concern," I said with a smile. His gaze remained serious.
"I'll go talk to him, then."
"What!?" I exclaimed, trying to stop him from entering the school. "Wait! I thought you two weren't friends anymore?"
I blocked his way to stop him from entering. He was so tall that I was having a hard time. There were many eyes on us because of him. He looked like a gangster trying to enter the school.
I tried to block his way, but it was too late. Vinny had stopped and was glaring at something behind me.
"What's going on?" Jay's cold voice made me wince.
"Call Dom. I don't need you," Vinny snapped at Jay. I quickly turned to Jay and shook my head, trying to defuse the tension.
"You can go back. He's just asking me something," I lied, but Jay's gaze remained fixed on me, then shifted to Vinny in a silent challenge.
"I thought you weren't friends with him?" Jay's comment made Vinny pause and look at me with an annoyed expression. Maybe he was irritated because I had told Jay, or perhaps that was just his usual demeanor.
"Why do you even care, jerk?" Vinny retorted, his voice dripping with disdain.
"Hey, stop," I urged Vinny, my brows furrowed. "Can you please just go? You're making a scene." I whispered, glancing around and noticing the growing number of onlookers. The tension was palpable, and I could feel my heart pounding in my chest.
"What the fuck? What's that bastard doing here?" Dom's voice startled me. He approached with a fierce look, positioning himself between Jay and Vinny. I felt a surge of anxiety, fearing they might start a fight. Both of them towered over me, their presence intimidating.
Vinny clenched his fists, his knuckles turning white. "You..." he couldn't finish his sentence, throwing sharp glances at Dom, who tilted his head mockingly.
"Vinny, just go," I said firmly, my voice steady despite the chaos. His gaze dropped to me, and I felt a wave of relief wash over me. He ran a hand through his hair, frustration etched on his face.
"I'm not here to fight, considering I've already beaten you," he sneered. Dom made a move towards him, but Jay held him back with a firm hand on his shoulder.
Vinny continued, "Just protect your new member, will you? You never know who might want to hurt this little one." His tone was mocking, but there was an undercurrent of threat that made my blood run cold.
Dom’s eyes narrowed, his body tensing as he took a step closer. “You think you’re tough? Coming here and making threats?”
Vinny smirked, clearly enjoying the reaction he was provoking. “I don’t need to think. I know.”
“Enough,” Jay said, his voice cutting through the rising tension. “Vinny, leave now.”
Vinny held Jay’s gaze for a long moment before he shrugged, as if bored by the whole confrontation. “Fine. But remember what I said, Dom. Watch your back. And hers.”
With that, he turned and walked away, leaving a heavy silence in his wake. I let out a breath I didn’t realize I’d been holding and looked at Jay and Dom, who were still tense and ready for a fight.
“are you okay?” Jay asked, with a serious look on his face.
I nodded, but my mind was racing. “Yeah, I’m fine. Just… let’s go back to class.”
What the hell was that? Is that his excuse to follow through with his plan to have Dom protect me? I hate him! He doesn't need to do that,.

I have so many plot twists in mind for Wind Breaker that I think I need to put this story on Ao3. 😭 Like, for example, Demitra having a connection to the Yakuza who were responsible for Kazuma's death.

author's note: i can't believe i made this chapter so angsty,
✧˖° — windbreaker men
✧˖° — mdni, smut, description of not safe for work content.
✧˖° — this is a story not one shot.
I packed the books Jay had lent me into my bag. Once I had my things in order, I stood up and headed for the door. I took a deep breath before slightly opening it. Peeking through, I saw Jay bowing his head while his mother yelled at him. I covered my mouth in shock.
"Just because I let you participate in that tournament doesn't mean you can do whatever you want! What have I heard from your brother? You go to school without breakfast? You don't even eat dinner here, so you probably don't eat lunch at school either! Are you trying to starve yourself to death?!" his mother shouted at him. I winced at her harsh words. "Why are you doing this to yourself?! Is it because of that girl? Answer me!"
I swallowed hard as I looked at Jay's face. He kept his head bowed and didn't answer. I clenched my fists.
"Ever since that girl left, you've been like this! I'm telling you, stop getting into relationships! They only distract you from your studies!"
"I'm studying like you wanted. What more do you want?" Jay said quietly, and I gasped at his response.
Before I could react, his mother slapped him. I stepped back in fear. What should I do? Stop his mom? What if she gets angrier at Jay? What if she doesn't let him see his friends anymore because I interfered? But I can't just leave Jay like this!
Before I could make a decision, Jay came back into the room. His face looked exhausted, and his shoulders were slumped. And here I was, standing, watching him, wanting to ask if he was okay. But I didn't want to cross his boundaries. I didn't even know if he liked having me near him. Maybe he was just like Vinny.
He went straight to his bed and sat down, lost in thought.
"J-Jay," I said nervously, "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have agreed to study tonight. You couldn't even eat dinner."
He didn't respond. Now I felt even guiltier.
"I should go—"
"Stay." I froze and looked at him, surprised. He was still staring at the floor.
"Your mom might get even angrier. I don't want you to get scolded again, Jay," I said softly.
This time, he faced me. "All she cares about is my studying. Then I will give it to her. Let's study more," he said coldly.
I frowned and took a deep breath. I sat beside him, and he didn't get angry, for which I was grateful.
"I know I have no right to say this, but..." I bit my lower lip nervously. "Doesn't it seem like your mom is just worried about you? I heard you haven't eaten since this morning." I searched his eyes.
"But of course, hitting you is not okay. If she really worries about you, she shouldn't hurt her own son," I added.
I saw his fists clench. "She doesn't care about me," he said seriously, with a hint of sarcasm.
"Okay..." I smiled, and he looked at me. "If you want to study, then let's do it together. But do you want to eat first?" I asked, taking out my phone.
"I'll order some food. What do you want?" I asked while browsing food options on my phone.
"I'll cook. Put your phone away," he said, surprising me as he stood up and left the room. I was left staring after him, bewildered.
He cooks? He knows how to cook?
I hurriedly followed Jay to the kitchen, surprised to see him already wearing an apron. My cheeks heated up at the sight. He looked so good! He's already smart, and now I find out he can cook too. What girl wouldn't fall for him? I didn't hesitate to approach him.
"You don't have to! I can buy us food. You've already let me stay here in your house, and now you're cooking for me too," I said shyly, but he was already frying something.
"Just prepare the plates," he ignored my protests.
"W-Where's your mom?" I asked as I set out two plates. I also helped him wash the knives he'd used. I couldn't believe he had time to chop everything!
"She left as usual," he said. He was focused on frying something as he spoke. I didn't know what else to do while he was cooking. It seemed like he didn't need any help, or maybe he just didn't want me to disturb him. So, I decided to wait until he was done.
I saw him taking off the apron. My eyes widened as he served pork tonkatsu with cabbage on our plates. The cabbage even had sauce, making it look even more appetizing.
"Wow, you can really cook," I said, impressed. I watched him scoop some rice and place it on the table. My heart warmed at the sight. He really knows how to make a girl fall for him.
"Let's eat," he said, sitting down, and I followed suit.
"Thank you for this... I'll pay you back next time." I said with a smile. He just nodded.
I started serving myself some rice. I really love rice. I can't go a day without eating it. I happily tasted what he cooked. It was so delicious! I almost forgot I was with Jay at the table. When I looked at him, I was shocked to see he was watching me eat like it was the first meal I'd ever had.
"Seriously? You didn't even invite me?" Jay's brother suddenly appeared.
"You're finished eating dinner, so go," Jay said, trying to shoo him away.
"I just had rice soup!"
"That's not my problem."
I laughed at their bickering. I smiled at his brother and offered him a piece of tonkatsu. Jay had cooked two pieces for us. I could manage with just one piece of meat.
"Here, eat this. You can get some rice," I offered.
"No, you eat it. Just let him be," Jay insisted, but I looked at his brother, who was eyeing the tonkatsu. I stood up and got him a plate. I also scooped some rice for him and gave him some tonkatsu and a bit of cabbage.
"Hey it's okay," I smiled sweetly at him. He looked stunned and seemed shy about looking at his brother. Soon enough, he joined us at the table. He sat beside me and started tasting the food his brother cooked.
"Thank you," he said softly, and I just smiled.
Jay sighed. "You should have told me earlier that you wanted some so I could cook for you."
"I didn't know you'd be cooking! It's been so long since you last cooked! Months even."
I realized the possible reason why he hadn't been cooking. It might have been because of Shelly. I forced a small smile. Maybe he used to cook for Shelly like this? How lucky she was.
"After you finish the alphabets, we can move on to the literature," Jay suddenly said, handing me half of his tonkatsu. I was taken aback.
"O-Okay..." was all I managed to say.
"Demitra! Do you have a boyfriend?" Jay's brother asked out of the blue, catching me off guard.
"Woohyeon." Jay warned.
"What? I was just asking! I'm single."
I laughed and shook my head. "No, you're too young to be my boyfriend, don't you think?"
"I'll be 18 soon!"
I laughed again and glanced at Jay, who continued eating as if he didn't care about our conversation. Why do I feel disappointed? I can't believe it. Why would he care about my relationship status?
"Are you one of Shelly's friends? Jay's girlfriend has a lot of friends, and I bet you're one of them."
Jay froze at the mention of her name. He stopped eating and glared at his brother.
"Uhh—" I didn't know what to say!
"Leave," Jay shot a sharp look at his brother. "Go eat in your room," he said seriously.
"But I'm still talking to Demitra—"
"I said leave," Jay shouted, and Woohyeon paled, quickly standing up and taking his food with him as he left.
I averted my gaze. After all this time, he’s still affected by her name. He truly loves her. Even though Shelly left and hasn’t contacted him. How could that woman not update her own boyfriend? Not even a text? Doesn’t she think about Jay’s feelings? I hate this. I shouldn't have cared about them at all.
I glanced at my watch. "Hey, isn’t it too late for us to study now? There’s always tomorrow. Let’s continue then." I forced a smile.
He looked up. "It’s up to you," he said shortly.
I laughed. "After I finish eating, I'll wash the dishes. Then I’ll head home."
"You're leaving?" he asked, surprised.
I frowned. "What else would I do here, Jaehyun? Sleep in your room?" I joked, but he just stared at me. "Just kidding... Do you need anything else? Do you want me to teach you more tips on biking?"
He shook his head. "It's fine. No need to wash the dishes. I’ll take you home," he said, starting to clear the plates.
"Oh, you don’t have to! I have my bike, remember?" I said, smiling at him. "Thanks again for the meal! I'll treat you tomorrow, I promise!"
He just stared at me before nodding. I sighed as he turned away. I want to learn more about you, Jay. So why can't you talk to me? I just want to make you smile. Why is it so hard? Is she really that important to you? Are you really starving yourself because of her?
I clenched my fists and looked away. I packed my things and took my stuff from his room. But I froze when I saw a small picture frame. It was a photo of Shelly and Jay together. Shelly had her arms wrapped around Jay’s waist while posing. They looked so sweet together.
Why do you keep appearing everywhere I go, Shelly? Why are you always ruining things for me? Why does the world keep doing this to me? Why?
I sighed.
"I'm leaving! Thank you again, Jay!" I waved to him as I stepped out of their house.

Jay followed my instructions, his movements more fluid this time. "Like this?" he asked, glancing at me for confirmation.
"Exactly," I said, smiling. "You're getting it."
For a moment, we were both silent, just standing there, him on his bike and me beside him. The tension from earlier seemed to melt away, replaced by a comfortable understanding.
"Thanks for the tip," Jay said, breaking the silence again.
"You're welcome," I replied, feeling a bit more at ease. "Just remember to keep your elbows wide and your grip firm. It'll help you stay balanced."
Jay nodded.
As we rejoined the rest of the group, I couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment. Interacting with Jay had been nerve-wracking, but it also felt surprisingly natural. Maybe joining their crew wouldn't be so bad after all.
I bit my lower lip as I realized June, Dom, Minu, Yuna, and Mia had been watching us the entire time. I felt so embarrassed! They must have been surprised, especially after our training where we warmed up with a 180km bike ride from the city to the countryside. It was exhausting, but I enjoyed it with them.
After our training, I noticed Jay practicing the tips I gave him, so I went over to help. But I didn’t expect the rest of the crew to be watching us!
"Wow, you're getting close to the foreigner. How come you always attract foreign girls?" June laughed, crossing his arms. Jay ignored him, continuing to drink his water.
"Damn, good thing Demitra can speak Korean. That blue-haired girl, I couldn’t understand a word she said!" Dom complained while wiping his sweat.
Blue-haired girl? That sounds familiar.
"You know her too?" Jay asked quietly from beside me, though I knew his friends were listening.
"Nah, I don't think so," I forced a smile. He looked at me for a long moment, as if trying to gauge the truth.
Minu cleared his throat. "We noticed you were teaching Jay. It seems you know a lot of biking skills?" he asked. Mia nodded in agreement.
I looked down at my bike, balancing without holding the handlebars. "Just a few," I said. Dom gave me a doubtful look. "I used to love doing tricks on ramps." I added.
"You're talking about the ramps at the skatepark?" June asked, eyes wide with shock.
I rubbed the back of my head, feeling embarrassed. "Yeah, that's my specialty."
Mia's jaw dropped. "If I'm not mistaken, are you one of those bicycle riders who do tricks in the air? Like spinning around?" she asked, stunned. I nodded.
"That's dangerous, right?" Dom asked June, who nodded in disbelief while looking at me.
"But of course, I don't use those in tournaments. Actually, I don't do those tricks much anymore. I'm more into sprint riding, like what Dom does," I explained, looking at Dom. Jay adjusted his posture, clearly interested.
"You also know some techniques for sprint riding?" Jay asked, and everyone looked at him. I laughed softly.
"Maybe a little?"
"You're just being humble," Yuna gave me a sharp look.
"Isn't it unfair that you’re teaching Jay but not us?" Dom said dramatically. Jay avoided his gaze and got on his bike.
"Well, I would love to help you—"
"It's too late. We need to go home now," Jay interrupted, making me widen my eyes.
"What!? Oh come on, man! Don't be so selfish!"
"What do you mean 'we'? Are you taking Demitra with you?" Minu clarified, locking eyes with Jay as if they were having a silent conversation.
I remembered our last conversation before the training session. Jay had offered to help me with my Korean literature studies. I even asked him where we’d study since it wasn't allowed at my place! Plus, I've never brought a guy to my apartment; my roommates might assume Jay is my boyfriend. How embarrassing would that be? Thankfully, he volunteered his place since he’s not allowed to stay out late either.
"He’s going to help me with Korean literature and history." I interjected into their conversation.
Mia chuckled. "You seem to learn quickly, judging by how well you speak Korean! I know you can do it."
"Just the two of you?" Minu asked Jay seriously. Jay looked at him without any emotion, but I could feel a strange tension.
"It won’t take long! Don’t worry!" I quickly added.
"Well, good luck, Demitra! Jay isn't the best teacher, you might give up halfway!" Dom laughed.
I noticed Jay had already started biking, so I hurriedly got on my bike and waved at everyone. "See you tomorrow!" I called out cheerfully before following Jay, who was ahead of me. I pouted. Why was he in such a hurry?
I followed Jay because I didn't know where his house was. He was quiet, but I guess that’s normal for him. I couldn’t believe Shelly liked this type of guy. It was very unusual for her.
I was deep in thought when we arrived at a large house. My jaw dropped in shock at how big his house was. Was this where he lived? Wow, he must be rich.
"Just park your bike here," he said, snapping me out of my thoughts. I nodded and did as he said, parking my bike next to his.
Without another word, he walked inside. I bit my lip nervously. Was he not going to invite me in? It felt awkward just walking in unannounced. What if his parents were inside?
I was startled when Jay came back. "What are you still standing there for? Come in," he said before turning away. I pouted.
"Who’s with you, Jay?" I was surprised to see a small boy wearing glasses. He seemed just as surprised to see me, his cheeks turning red. "W-Who..."
"Turn off the TV if you’re not watching," Jay told him. He went into what I assumed was his room, leaving the door open. Was that where we’d study?
"It's nice to meet you, Jay's brother. Hi! I'm Demitra!" I introduced myself, holding out my hand. Jay’s brother just stared at me, his face red. I frowned and forced a smile.
It was so awkward because Jay's brother didn't say a word. He was just staring at me like he was looking through my soul. I forced a smile. "I'll head in now," I said awkwardly before walking into Jay's room.
"Your brother is weird," I said to Jay, setting my bag on the table. I watched as Jay organized his things.
He didn’t respond, instead handing me three books, one of which was a dictionary. I frowned at the books.
"What is this?"
"A dictionary," he said, as if stating the obvious.
"Yes, I know it's a dictionary. What's it for?" I raised an eyebrow. "I’m struggling more with Korean literature and history than the language itself."
His expression didn’t change. "Your Korean isn’t that good," he stated. My jaw dropped. "Maybe that’s why you can't understand our lessons about history."
"Hey, take that back! You understand what I’m saying! Even your friends!"
He shook his head. "It’s lame. I can barely understand you."
I dramatically held my chest. "Whatever, no offense, but Japanese is easier to learn than Korean."
"I agree."
I couldn’t believe this guy! I let out a sharp breath before sitting down. The contents of the books were overwhelming. This was harder than physics. Why did I end up in Korea? I glanced at Jay, who was staring at his phone.
"Are you going to teach me or not?" I raised an eyebrow at him. He looked at me boredly.
"Read that first."
"How can I read it if I don’t understand it?" I said sarcastically.
He stared at me for a moment before sighing and putting his phone down. He took the dictionary from my hands and replaced it with a larger book.
"Start with the basics," he said. When I opened the book, my jaw dropped. It was the Korean alphabet!
"Oh, come on, I already know some of these."
"Some? Then you should know all of these," he said, placing the book on the table. I cursed inwardly.
"Now I understand why Dom said you’re a terrible teacher," I grumbled, starting to read. As usual, he didn’t respond.
"How did you get a girlfriend when you’re this quiet?" I muttered while reading. "Huh?" I glared at him.
"It’s none of your business."
I rolled my eyes. "I heard you’re a player. How come Shelly doesn’t get jealous?" I teased without looking at him.
"Those are just rumors."
I laughed softly and continued reading. I glanced at Jay, who was now looking at his phone. Without his glasses, I realized how handsome he was. His mullet haircut suited him. No wonder many girls liked him.
Besides being handsome, he was good at biking and wasn’t very talkative. Some girls might prefer a quiet guy as a boyfriend, thinking there’s less chance he’d cheat because he’s so reserved.
My heart almost stopped when he looked up, and our eyes met.
"If you keep staring at me, you should just go home."
I rolled my eyes at him. "Is this how you treat girls? So rude," I muttered. "I was just about to ask you something about what I’m reading, but never mind."
He cleared his throat. "Show me. Where are you having trouble?" He must have heard my muttering.
"Forget it. I just remembered the internet exists. I’ll search for the meaning," I said, grabbing my phone.
He was silent for a moment.
"That’s a consonant. It refers to a double s," he suddenly said. My eyes widened when I realized how close our faces were. He had leaned in to look at the book. I could literally feel my heart racing. I was still distracted by how close our faces were to each other, so I didn't even notice what I had searched on my phone.
"Too late, I already looked it up," I whispered.
"You shouldn’t use your phone while studying."
"Well, genius, if you were a better teacher, I wouldn’t need to."
I continued reading, trying to push away my distraction. I couldn't help but feel Jay's gaze on me, and the thought of our eyes meeting again made me too embarrassed to look up. Is this what it's like when you like someone? I sighed and tried to focus on what I was reading.
As I went through the Korean alphabet, it felt more familiar, like I was revisiting what I had studied before deciding to come to Korea. It refreshed my memory. Maybe the reason I struggled with Korean history was that I had forgotten the correct way to read their language.
"Vinny..." My forehead creased at the name. "You know him? You’re friends with the Sabbath?" Jay suddenly asked.
And now I was doomed.
"No, I'm not, especially Vinny. He hates me."
He paused, clearly puzzled. "But he said you’re his friend."
"No, he’s just bluffing," I said with irritation.
"They are dangerous. You should stay away from them."
Well, it's too late. Even if I wanted to, I couldn't just walk away now. Wooin helped with my parents' debt. I can't just abandon him. Even though I'm confused about why he did it, I still choose to serve them.
"Are you saying your friend is dangerous?" I asked seriously.
Jay didn't respond, his expression unreadable. I know he is old friends with Vinny. So why would he warned me from him?
I sighed, feeling the weight of the situation. "Look, I know it's risky, but I owe them. Wooin helped my family when no one else could. I can't just turn my back on that."
Jay's eyes flickered with something I couldn't quite identify—concern, maybe? But he remained silent, his gaze steady on mine.
Finally, Jay spoke, his voice softer. "Just be careful."
I nodded, appreciating his concern. "Worried for me? Aw," I teased. "I didn't expect you to have this side to you." I continued to tease, but he remained serious, shaking his head. I couldn't help but laugh, knowing he was probably feeling embarrassed by my comments.
Actually, studying with Jay isn't as bad as I thought it would be. I expected him to give me a hard time, but it seems like it's just his personality to be reserved. I suddenly paused. What if he isn't really like this, especially with Shelly?
Oh, come on, Demitra. Why should I care about that? I frowned, feeling irritated with myself.
I was jolted from my thoughts by a knock on the door. Jay stood up to answer it, and I almost froze when I saw a middle-aged woman. From her appearance, she looked like Jay's mother! I quickly stood up and bowed.
"Good evening, Ma'am," I greeted her. She gave me a cold look. Now it made sense why Jay always had that cold expression on his face. He inherited it from his mom.
"You didn't eat dinner again?" she said sternly. I looked at Jay, confused, but his face remained emotionless.
"We're studying," he replied shortly.
"You didn't eat breakfast, and I know you didn't eat lunch at school either," his mother said angrily, but she paused when she noticed me.
"Let's talk in the living room."
"I'm fine. Just leave," Jay said.
"Jaehyun," his mother said firmly, leaving Jay with no choice but to get up. I was left alone in his room.
My heart pounded with worry about what I had witnessed. Was Jay going to be scolded? Was it because of me that he hadn't eaten dinner? I hadn't eaten dinner either. Damn, maybe it's my fault he missed his meal. His mother should be scolding me, not him!
