Mimmo Rotella, born Domenico Rotella, was a Italian artist who was considered an essential artist in post-war European art. Rotella used iconic images of the prolific personas of the time in his collages and incorporated torn advertisement posters which reflected the post-WWII tone in a battered European society. Rotella created pop art collages that played with texture, type, & color which gave it that eye catching playful appeal.

Max Ernst was a German based artist who’s works included paintings, graphic design, and sculpture. Ernst is considered a pioneer in the Dada movement and surrealism. His pieces, such as “The Robing of the Bride,” present images that seem eerily reminiscent of renaissance art with a unique and otherworldly twist. The artist’s usage of boastful colors and disproportionate designs produce a cohesive image that challenges the ideology of reality and questions the design of the divine.

Fluffy was listed as a soft word which is why I decided to paint it using a bold font. The boldness of the font combined with the contrast of the black and white paint makes the word fluffy feel like the opposite of something you would want to touch.

Week 6 Progress for Drapery
I am really satisfied with the outcome of this! It is difficult to get used to but it is really enjoyable to do! Excited to do the glaze soon but let me know if there are any suggestions to make the painting better for the glaze.

Loved learning about why artists have been depicting drapery. Really shows how painting drapery really makes the artists focus on the basics
Research post: I decided to research a little deeper into the concept of drapery and why it is used by many great artists. Drapery allows the artist to create a work of art utilizing and demonstrating light, surface and volume.
“Centuries before the idea of abstract art had even been dreamed of, the flow and the rhythm of drapery offered figurative painters expressive possibilities akin to those promised by abstraction”.
