Carnival Rio de Janeiro Brazil 2024
Six schools opened the Special Group parades at Rio de Janeiro's carnival on Sunday night (11/2). All of the schools, Porto da Pedra, Beija-Flor, Salgueiro, Grande Rio, Unidos da Tijuca and Imperatriz Leopoldinense, managed to keep to the set time. Around 100,000 people watched the traditional parade at the Marquês de Sapucaí, a sambadrome that celebrates its fourth anniversary this year.
Unidos do Viradouro is the 2024 Rio de Janeiro Carnival champion. The school took to the avenue with the storyline Arroboboi, Dangbé, which pays homage to the sacred snake of the Africans of Benin. The parade showed the strength of black women by representing an army of women to demystify the battle that turned a snake into a goddess in Africa. The counting took place on Wednesday afternoon (14/2) at Cidade do Samba.
It's Viradouro's third title, as last year they finished a tenth behind Imperatriz Leopoldinense and were runners-up.

The Crash!
I did not find any good photos of the begining of the crash for this post. I’m sure some good ones will pop up soon enough. But the crash in MotoGP between Zarco and Morbidelli was absolutely horrendous and one of the scariest I have seen. And that is after the horrible crash in Moto2. This was by far the worst weekend for crashing in a MotoGP event and it took me some time to get my heart rate back down to normal. The crash in Moto2 was already bad enough that my nerves were frayed. I still can’t believe it is being reported that Hayfizh Syahrin escaped any real injury. That landing looked painful!
The crash between Zarco and Morbidelli seems to have sparked a conversation about track safety in that one particular corner. Racing is already exponentially safer today than when I first started watching back in the early 1990′s. But any step to make it safer is a good one.
The accident seems to be blameless. They were both on an unconventional line, Zarco started to brake while drifting to the right, Morbidelli had nowhere to go. They touched at over 300 KPH. How the accident played out is crazy, though. Both bikes crossed the track again, at high speed and airborne, and almost collided with other riders. Rossi and Vinales barely escaped tragedy. I cringe every time I see the replay.
Morbidelli looked injured for sure. But reports now suggest he has some cuts and bruises but nothing serious. I don’t know how that is even possible, but I am thankful.
This is obviously a tough track. There were other crashes and the top five positions changed alot as riders crashed out. But still a great and exciting race. I am happy to enjoy it knowing none of the riders involved in crashes in Moto2 or MotoGP were seriously injured.

Carnival 2021 in the city of São Paulo is postponed
In 2021, the São Paulo samba school parade will not take place in February. Because of the covid-19 pandemic, the next Carnival has been postponed to May for now. The date transfer was announced by the mayor of São Paulo, Bruno Covas, and the governor, João Doria, at a press conference this Friday.

Fuerza Coman
One more injury. He could not continue before Tottenham. The image of the moment in which the knee is played was chilling. Hopefully not serious.
