citizen sleeper is like. you're an imitation of a real person's consciousness transferred to a robotic frame, a body owned by a corporation that exploited you for work. you're an escaped property that needs to be terminated. you try to survive in the Eye, and it is cruel and chaotic and unchanging. the world will not wait for you and you struggle to keep your place in it.

but there's a street vendor who would trade you meals in exchange for your stories. there's a little girl you look after in their apartment while her father works off to secure a future for them. she calls you "robot" and asks if you are family. you find a stray cat that stays in your makeshift home. a distiller defends you like you are one of them and she says you are. you gather scrap parts and bathe under the sun and little by little the body that you have becomes your own.

you eat and you sleep and you work and sometimes you cannot afford to do all three. cycle by cycle and Sleeper no longer feels like a term for property but an identity. you grow fungi and trade data and help refugees. you intertwine yourself into the lives of others and they to yours. you wake and keep your body alive because even if you don't, the Eye will still spin. you are only one of many, after all.

the world will not wait for you. but there are people who will call you "friend" and share with you their hopes and dreams. you trust and struggle and love and hurt. but you find living in survival. and that is enough.
