On the short press event, Honor claims the Honor View 20 is the first in-screen camera smartphone and the diameter of screen hole is as small as 4.5mm, versus competitors’ 6mm, which means a display with less flaw.

Meanwhile, the Honor View 20 will feature a 48MP rear camera with the Sony's IMX586 CMOS. Undoubtedly, the Honor View 20 will deliver high-quality photo in daylight. However, with the pixel-binning technology, this camera can merge four 0.8um pixels into one to mimic larger 1.6um cells, ensuring you can still get perfect photo with very little light.

With the latest Kirin 980 chipset, the Honor View 20 can not only offer great experience, but also improves the AI camera. According to Honor, the camera process speed improvement will increase 46% and AI image processing capacity will be 134% better.

And the release date is not the best news since Honor also shows us three more important features. Actually, Samsung launched the Samsung A8S this afternoon and it also features a hole screen. You can see the Honor View 20 does have a smaller hole and look better.

Honor View 20 & Samsung A8s: Compare First Phones with Display Holes

The appearance of the Honor View 20 and Samsung A8s in China yesterday represent the beginning of another competition. From now on, we will soon see more smartphones comes with a hole in the display, just like the notch design which is used for more and more smartphones now.

So let’s compare these two pioneers and see which one is better.

First of all, the Honor View 20. According to Honor, the Honor View 20 will be “first in-screen camera smartphone”. It comes with a front camera under the display and the hole in the top left corner looks quite small. Honor claimed the Honor View 20’s hole diameter is 4.5 mm, which is smaller than its competitor’s 6mm.

Meanwhile, the Samsung A8s comes with the so-called Infinity-O display and you can see the front camera is also on the top left corner.

However, the Samsung A8 has a bigger hole than the Honor View 20’s. The difference might be caused by the different technology Honor and Samsung used. Samsung just dig a hole in the display while Honor keeps a complete display and make the corner of the display transparent enough for the camera to work properly.

Besides the display, the Honor View 20 gives us more surprises. It will feature a 48MP rear camera with the Sony’s IMX586 CMOS and the Kirin 980 chipset, the latest high-end Huawei chipset. According to Honor, with the new chipset, the camera process speed improvement will increase by 46% and AI image processing capacity will be 134% better.

As for the Samsung A8s, it will be powered by the Snapdragon 710 and comes with 6GB/8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The Samsung A8s features 24MP+10MP+5MP rear cameras and a 24MP front camera for photography while it has a 3,400 mAh battery and supports fast charging via UBS Type-C port.

There are still some details about the Honor View 20 remain unknown since it will be officially launched on December 26 in China while the global launching event will be in Paris on January 22. Though launched the Samsung A8s in China yesterday, Samsung has not announced the price.

48MP Camera Smartphones Coming Soon

Yesterday, Honor revealed the exciting features of its new flagship, the Honor View 20. It will be equipped with a 48MP rear camera with Sony’s IMX586 CMOS, making the Honor View 20 the first smartphone comes with this powerful sensor.

It is easy to understand what 48MP means. You will get more details within the same size as the photo and it will be really useful if you want to zoom in the photos. 

Besides providing high-definition photos, the IMX586 sensor also enables the Honor View 20 delivers great photo even with little light. By adopting the Quad Bayer color filter array, where the adjacent 2x2 pixels come in the same color, the new sensor delivers both high sensitivity and high resolution. In low-light situations the signal from the four adjacent pixels is added, raising the sensitivity to a level equivalent to that of 1.6 μm pixels (12 effective megapixels), to capture bright, low-noise photos.

Though Honor did not mention shooting videos in the press event in Hong Kong yesterday, the IMX586 supports 4K video at 90fps, 1080P video at 240 fps as well as 720P video at 480fps. So it is possible the Honor View 20 will be strong at shooting videos and might attract those vloggers and those who love filming videos with mobile phones.

The IMX586 is not the only great news here. The Honor View 20 will be powered by the Kirin 980, the latest high-end chipset from Huawei. According to Honor, with the new processor, the camera process speed improvement will increase 46% while the AI image processing capacity will be 134% better.

Besides the official information, there are also some leaks. The 3C verification shows the Honor View 20 will have a display with a resolution of 2,310 x 1,080 pixels (FHD+) and will be equipped with EMUI 9 based on Android Pie. What’s more, the Honor View 20 will support a 22.5W fast charging.

There is also a rumor saying the price of the Honor View 20 will be RMB 2,799 (approximately Rs. 28,690). If this is true, the Honor View 20 will be really competitive. Anyway, let’s forward to Honor’s launching event in January!

Finally, Honor’s new flagship is coming! It has been more than half of a year since Honor launched the Honor 10 globally, and now Honor announced the new flagship will be released in Paris on January 22.

Besides the date and location, there’s something very exciting in Honor’s invitation: the moon on the top left corner of the new phone. Honor said the new flagship will come with the “in-screen camera display” so obviously the moon represents the in-screen camera.

This is a good news for those who really hate the notch trend but still want to buy a new smartphone. Thanks to the new technology, the flagship will have no notch but a small front camera on the corner.

Another Honor flagship launching event is getting closer! Honor just announced a new global launching event will be held in Paris on January 22 and Honor said they “will be the first to demonstrate the in-screen camera display”.

And here comes the good news for notch hater: if the poster shows the front of the phone correctly, we will get a real full-screen phone and no notch this time.

Honor also revealed another important feature of the new flagship, the Kirin 980. It is the latest chipset from Huawei and has already been used by Huawei Mate 20 series. According to Honor, the Kirin 980 is the first Cortex-A76 based in the world and has a 75% improvement in the single core performance and it also includes the world’s first commercial use Mali-G76 GPU whose performance is improved by 46%.

Plus, the Kirin 980 can quickly adapt to AI scenes such as face recognition, object recognition, object detection, image segmentation and intelligent translation with the power of a dual-core NPU achieving 4500 images per minute which is an improved 120% recognition speed.

For now, Honor has not announced the name of the new flagship. It is possible that the new phone is the successor of the Honor View 10, which is launched in January this year and received a great reputation thanks to its powerful performance, great camera, and affordable price.

Honor 8X After One Month: Best Budget Phone Now

It has been about a month since Honor started the first sale of the Honor 8X. This new budget phone looks just like a strong competitor for the title of “King of Budget Phone in 2018” since it has a gorgeous look, great performance, and a low price.

However, what matters most is the real and long-term review instead of the hands-on review. That’s why I want to talk about my thought on the Honor 8X after using it for one month.

First of all, I really love the Honor 8X. It does have some compromise but it really worth the price and offers a flagship-like smooth experience. Here are all the aspects I love about the Honor 8X:

1.   Design&Display

The Honor 8X is really beautiful and it can even stand out among high-end phones. The double texture aurora glass body looks great and it is better when you take it outdoors and get the sunlight shining on the glass back.

Everyone loves a bigger screen and so am I. Though still comes with the notch, the Honor 8X has a small bottom so I can still enjoy the big screen and better view. Plus, the Honor 8X gets rounded edge and normal size thanks to high screen-to-body ratio, so I can hold the phone quite comfortably.

The screen of the Honor 8X is not just big, but also good for daily use. The high-quality display is quite bright and colorful and suitable for watching videos and playing games.

2.   Performance

In my opinion, the Honor 8X who is equipped with the Kirin 710 is definitely good enough for daily use and you won’t feel any lag even after a month. It can also handle some heavy-graphic games without frames dropping thanks to the GPU Turbo, the performance-improvement feature from Honor. But the phone might get a little heat after playing games for a long time.

3.   Update

The Honor 8X comes with the EMUI 8 based on Android Oreo, which is smooth and fast. What’s more, the Honor 8X will soon get the EMUI 9 update, which is based on the Android Pie. Honor keeps a great record at updating the operating system and even phones launched two years ago can get the Android Pie update.

4.   Price

The Honor 8X is quite cheap. 4GB RAM+64GB ROM variant costs Rs. 14,999 and 6+64 GB version’s price is Rs.16,999, while the most powerful 6+128 GB version costs Rs.18,999.

Generally, I think Honor keeps a great balance between price and quality. For example, the Honor 8X lacks the USB Type-C port for cutting the price, but it won’t disappoint you in any other aspect. If you are looking for a budget, this is the best choice now.

Android Pie Coming to Honor 8X Next Week!

Honor is doing a great job in releasing the system update this year. The beta version of the EMUI 9 based on Android Pie has been released in August and next week, the Honor 8X will receive the Android Pie update in China.

Besides regular performance improvement and bug fixes, the EMUI 9 comes with several interesting new features. For example, it provides a detailed Screen Time Management report on your daily phone use, duration of time spent viewing notifications, and how long you use each application. You can also turn on the customizable time feature and the phone display will turn grey during this period to reduce desires to use your phone.

HiVision, another feature included in the EMUI 9, is a super useful feature for travel. When you scan landmarks or paintings with HiVision, it will tell you the history. Also, while eating at local restaurants, you can translate the foreign language menu in real-time. HiVision can also measure food calories with volume estimation to keep your diet healthy.

Meanwhile, updating EMUI will bring you a smoother experience. According to Honor, comparing to the EMUI 8, the system response of the EMUI 9 speed is 25.8% faster while the average application startup time decreases 102ms while the overall system fluency will increase 12.9%.

There are only 2 days left before the Honor 8C launch in India. This phone has been released in China for more than a month and received a great reputation since it comes with a huge battery, beautiful design, smooth experience, and a very affordable price.

We can already see some reviews of the Honor 8C from Indian technology media now. However, besides the professional reviews, we should also consider real consumers’ thoughts. That’s why I want to translate some customer reviews from the China e-commerce website and help you know more about the real user experience of the Honor 8C.

Before showing the reviews, let’s briefly introduce Honor 8C’s specs. The Honor 8C is equipped with a 6.26-inch LCD display with a resolution of 720p and a display ratio of 19:9. “Pros: Battery is impressive and just like Honor’s saying, the Honor 8C only need to charge once every two days (you might need to turn on the battery saving mode or lower the resolution). I watched 3 hours of videos and used the browser for an hour which consumed 28% of the battery in total. I went for work and when I back from work, the juice only reduced 10%. 

The Honor 8C looks great and follows the most popular trend. The phone is really smooth and when you open apps, they started almost immediately. I have used the Honor 8C for a week and I almost never met the lag. Much better than the Snapdragon 625. Really worth the price.

Cons: The display resolution is not high enough.”
