It is October and Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I am not normally someone to share the personal details of my life, but today is different, because I am humbled and so very grateful for the love and support Kailun, Isaac and I have received through our journey. I wish there was a way to possibly show our appreciation and gratitude to each and everyone of you that has said a prayer, had us in your thoughts, called, text, sent letters and gifts and provided support through your time, energy and money. We are truly humbled and honored to have so many amazing and loving people in our life. THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts. Today, I share my story, because it is so very important for everyone to know themselves and be your own biggest advocate. No matter how big or small something might seem, please, please, please go to the doctor and don’t take no for an answer. You know yourself better than anyone and if something is off, fight for yourself and your family. You are important and your family and friends need you. I am 33 years old, healthy with no family history of Breast Cancer. Thanks to my son being a Mama’s boy and loving to snuggle, every time he pushed on me, it sent pain through my legs and arms. I went to the doctor and after many tests I learned I had DCIS, it was caught early and thankful had not spread. The lump was growing fast and I was left with no options besides a bi-lateral mastectomy. Thankfully because it the early stage, I do not need radiation or chemotherapy. This wasn’t anything that was ever on my radar, because I had always been told it is hereditary and I was still young. Just because it is a low possibility, it is still a possibility…. Please know yourself, take care of yourself and be your biggest advocate. I am so very blessed that it was caught early and I thank God everyday for an amazing medical team and for all of you that have had Kailun, Isaac, and my back through it all.
