I personally find Renee to be a fascinating character.
“I’m a bad person trying really hard to be a good person.”
A bad person wouldn’t instinctively throw themselves in front of an enraged Andrew to protect their friend. A bad person wouldn’t drive eight hours through the night into basically yakuza territory to rescue a boy she barely knows.
Renee, if Andrew was only interested in the person you were before, he wouldn’t spend all his spare time at practice with you. The two of you wouldn’t be constantly referred to as a collective. You wouldn’t be one of only two people he allows to drive the maz, MUCH LESS hand the key over to you in the middle of the night without even asking for an explanation. You wouldn’t be literally the only person on the team—including his family & Bee—he’d come out to. You wouldn’t be the only person on the team he listens to before Neil came along. And he certainly wouldn’t trust you with so much if you were a bad person.
We don’t get that much insight into Renee in the series but she truly doesn’t see that she’s a good person at heart. Despite everything she’s done that’s to the contrary. Despite the fact that even wanting to be better makes you a better person. And I think she believes (at least at first) that Andrew is only interested in her past and that he doesn’t like her as a person bc who would ever like a bad person?
There’s just so much more to Renee that breaks my heart and that I probably spend way too much time thinking about.

We do not as a fandom give Cat Alvarez and Laila Dermott enough credit— or we do but we don’t talk about it enough. Like those two girls have done so much for Jean. They took him into their home, and gave him a chance off of credit and faith. But not just that! Never just that. They taught him how to cook, how to do chores like laundry (Jean didn’t even know how to sort clothes!), and what chemicals don’t mix well together— or at all. They paid for nearly every meal, every grocery trip; anything that he needed. Jean even tells us this towards the end of The Golden Raven when he drops the line “It was nice to take this small burden from them.” They have shown him kindness and patience and god they are both just so lovely. Cat is so affectionate with Jean, always giving him hugs and brushing his hair out of his face and giving him light teases when she knows it’s not a touchy subject for him. Laila is a bit more reserved but Jean knocked her in the face on instinct in The Sunshine Court and Laila never held it against him. She didn’t get mad; she didn’t even really get defensive. And she went on to brush his unruly hair for him and approach every topic with caution but consideration. Together they are becoming sisters (who will eventually get married, oops) to Jean in their own ways and rights and just seriously bless Catlaila for being a united front when Jean needs them to be but also two separate pillars of support on their own. Bless Cat for taking Jean on that first bike ride and Laila for understanding how alone Jean feels even when he doesn’t say it. They are so good to and for him and I appreciate them so much.

okay now I'm curious and I dunno if this is really such an archaic foreign thing to young people today or if I'm just out of touch
Please reblog, I'd love to see a lot of responses!

moral purity in All for the Game does not exist. it doesn’t even exist in the real world. stop trying to make it a thing. it’s not going to happen. does your favorite character happen to be from a sports mafia series written by Nora Sakavic? then they’re ‘problematic.’ yes. every single one of them. but the thing is: it doesn’t matter though. it’s kind of the whole shtick of the books. morality wars will never be won. grab your blorbo and give them a smooch on the head.

kevin and jeremy's friendship must mean so much to the both of them. exy players definitely want to see the trojans fall and lose composure, so i'm sure jeremy dealt with a lot of taunts and people not taking him seriously. it must've meant a lot to him that the child prodigy of exy not just believed in him and the way he played the sport but wanted to be his friend. as for kevin, he loves the trojans so much because they remind him of his mother. the trojans win the kayleigh day spirit award every year, meaning that she believed in their way of playing. i bet kevin feels closer to her when he watches their games. it must mean a lot to kevin that someone so similar to his mother also wants to be his friend.

It's impressive how Neil Gaiman vanished from the internet. Wish Rowling would do the same.
