Ok ok ok ok ok!!!! Human!au logince where Roman is the quarterback of the football team and drama nerd, & Logan is a big nerd whom Roman is In Love With.

Logan seems to ward off all of Romans attempts to flirt with him, have no interest in him, but his equally nerdy friend Virgil knows the truth.

He’s absolutely head over heels for Roman too, he’s just scared he’ll get made fun of or that it’s a joke.

Virgil is so Done becacause anybody who has eyes can see that they’re in love.

Roman tries asking Logan to the homecoming dance, amd finally Logan’s had enough.

He says “fine, fine. If you can win the game, I’ll go to the dance with you.”

And Roman thinks that’s impossible once they figure out who they’re playing.

The team they’re playing against is the strongest in their division. Roman thinks he has no hope. 

So homecoming comes around and Roman is nervous, jittery and just an all-around mess. Logan was dragged to the field by Virgil, who insists that Logan needs to come in case their team wins and he has to go to the dance with Roman. The entire time Logan is blabbering on about the “statistical probability of us winning a game against a team we’ve only ever played three times and lost against each time” being “zero” but Virgil doesn’t listen and it’s totally not because he wants to watch the head cheerleader, Patton, cheering on the crowd. 

The first half goes exactly as you’d expect. Their team is losing by a good fifteen points. It’s started to rain, and everyone is just in a bad mood. But Roman really wants that date, so he doesn’t let his team loose morale. He cheers them on during half time, and by the third quarter they’re tied with the opposing team. 

Fast forward and they have the ball with ten seconds to go, the score still even. The play starts. Roman throws the ball to one of the other players, and is promptly tackled. Nobody noticed as their linebacker runs the touchdown, everyone is too busy cheering. 

Well, everyone but Logan. He’s the one that jumps from the stands and runs up to the coach while everyone is cheering. At first the coach is confused, until he sees Logan’s frantic pointing towards the field. 

Roman hasn’t gotten up since he was tackled. 

Immediately the coaches and paramedics are on the field, and Logan watches in the crowd with wide eyes, nervous. The screaming calms down and evolves to silence. 

Eventually, Roman is taken off the field and led to the ambulance, which takes him off to the hospital. Later, the football coach tweets that Roman’s in the hospital with a broken arm. 

Logan doesn’t even think about it– he gets in his car and rushes to the hospital. When he reaches Roman’s room, he’s immediately ten times more anxious than he was when he decided to do this. 

He knocks before he enters, and Roman looks up. Logan can see tears in his eyes. 

“Hey.” 

“H- Hey… Sorry I couldn’t make the dance.” 

Logan smiles shyly, shaking his head. “It’s okay. I…I came to make sure you’re okay.” 

That makes Roman scoff. He holds his casted arm close to himself, shaking his head. “If this is what you consider okay. I– It’s my senior year and I’m not going to be able to play the rest of the season…So yeah. I– I’m fine.” 

Logan frowns. “I’m sorry.” He whispers, stepping inside the hospital room. He can see Roman needs a distraction, so he pulls out his phone and puts on some slow music. 

Roman looks up, brows furrowed. “What…What are you doing?” 

Logan smiles shyly. “Well, just because we couldn’t attend the dance doesn’t mean we can’t have one of our own.” 

At that, Roman breaks into a grin. He still has tears in his eyes, and he’s still hurt, but Logan is just so damn cute. He hops off the hospital bed and makes his way to Logan. 

Logan is careful not to touch Roman’s broken arm, pulling his not broken arm around his waist and wrapping his own arms around Roman’s neck. He hides his face shyly and sways them slightly as the music plays. 

And maybe, just maybe, Roman falls in love a second time. 

Maybe, before Logan leaves, he kisses Roman on the cheek. 

Maybe Roman doesn’t mind as much that he’ll be missing the rest of the football season, because he did win homecoming, after all.

Man, when I was like 16 I got so sick of being made fun of for being the fat kid that I took an axe down inna woods, chopped down a tree, and started doing log-lifts all the time. I got strong as fuck, but I didn’t lose no weight. I actually got bigger.

Same thing happened when I got into fighting. I got even stronger, and I got *fast*, man, and nimble, like a cat. Still chubby.

Body-building culture is a bunch of crap, my dude. Functional muscle is not necessarily toned or lean. You can be swole as hell and still be heavy. And that’s cool.

Embrace your inner barbarian. And when fatphobic little gym twinks try to body shame you, you should DESTROY THEM with your MIGHTY AXE
