Group Show for Saal Biennaal
With works by Maria Metsalu, Iggy Lond Malmborg, Jennifer Lacey, Krõõt Juurak, Alex Bailey, Mårten Spångberg, Valentina Desideri, Audrey Cottin, Pontus Petterson, Jan Ritsema, Jonathan Burrows, Diego Tonus, Angela Goh. Flowers by Alexender Kartozia Group Show
A group exhibition curated and performed by Galerie, an immaterial gallery for immaterial artworks. Group Show is an exhibition of immaterial artworks in the format of a performance. The artworks span over a wide range of media like dance, therapy, poetry, conflict and others. All of which could fit into the category of what we call immaterial artworks, artworks that can not be reduced the a material object or the documentation of an action. From relational aesthetics, over social sculpture or “situations”, contemporary art practices have been addressing the production of subjectivity in the realm of experience economy, using life as means and ends. A conversation, a behaviour, a movement, or a mood has become the brush, but also the painting. What are the relations between the objectification and the production of life in art and society? What happens to art when life is capitalized into new forms of production?

Humourology, Alex Bailey, 2015-

Custom-made socio practical mantra (joke)
Conditions of activation: A humourology reading session will be held over the telephone or in person. The reading will result in a custom made joke which will be made by the artist and will become the property of the purchaser to be retold at their discretion.
Documentation: Retellable
Not resellable
Humourology is the study of humour related communications and the occult manner in which it reflects certain aptitudes and character tendencies. By integrating our physical artistes into the cosmic plan of humourolgy the value derived relates to a comic vibration. The comic vibration is the manifestation of our bodies as humour. Humourolgy is used to provide the interrelation of vibrations between content and affect. By examining our physical attributes and the sums that result from our character, purposes in life, and where are talents lie humourolgy determines the content and form of our humour derived communications. It is a component in our discovery into a language of affective laughter with those in our comic plan.
The formula behind humourolgy takes the cosmic energy of an individual and 'bends' this into a mathematical climbing frame that seeks and sources related humour specific to the individual. By engaging in humourology it condenses time and affect into (what we know) a joke and importantly, a joke that is know to the individual and can be told as such.
Alex Bailey has been counseled by Gabriel Lester. During there post-premonition channels, Humourology (2016) the social practice based on the divine ascription of cosmic energy into comic synergy was in part attributed to this dialogue. Bailey has pioneered a water based singing technique utilising a 2 stop valve 'emotive' throat reflex. Recitals, concerts and workshops demonstrating this technique have been shown across the Baltic states. He has written a dieting book entitled “How to lose 10 pounds” retailing for £10. His practice of practical jokes, performances for pets and water based singing recitals are by no means sustainable but have shown to be perpetual. He was also a youth academy footballer for Aston Villa FC. He currently resides in Vienna and has previously lived in Tallinn, Philadelphia and Birmingham.

Squatting*, Pontus Pettersson, 2011-

Squatting*, Pontus Pettersson, 2011-
Located Practice
* when activated the name of the location is added to the title.
Documentation: The located practice might produce leftovers. Resellable: The located practice can be resold within the acquired time frame
Conditions of activation: The work must be located in time and place, with a minimum duration of one night and a maximum of three months. Squatting involves the taking over of the space by the atist and thus the artist can redefine the accessibility of that same space
Pontus Pettersson proposes a continuous work in which Squatting is a temporal visit and an expression. Every squat takes the name of its temporal ”home” as well as making it the site of the performance, the space unfolds simultaneously as the work. The artist occupies locations with his practice - Squatting points to the function of the artist as well as his undetermined doings. Practice is taken as the notion of occupation, both in relation to space and to activity. Each Squatting being singular while being part of a larger body of work: his labor, his practice, his life.
Pontus Petterssons choreographic work ranges from fortune telling, cat practicing, writing poetry to dancing, a choreography off and on stage, playing and questions the notions of choreography and dance as two singular entities yet closely entangled. It is a love for dancing with a particular interest in objects that bridge to a choreography that is as much daring, useless, beautiful and something else. Pontus is currently involved with his project The Poeticians, a poetic curational project as well as working with the musical, text and performance project PETS together with choreographer Ofelia Jarl Ortega, dancing for Mette Ingvartsen in her performance 7 Pleasures and La Substance - but in English by Mårten Spångberg. Pontus is a recurring artist at the venue Weld in Stockholm and holds an MA in choreography from the University of Dance and Circus in Stockholm. More about Pontus Petterson

Animal Companion, Hana Lee Erdman, 2015-

Temporary Companionship
The work will be tailored to an occasion defined by the buyer including no. of companions & duration of companionshipNot documentable Resellable - conditions apply.Conditions of activation: The work can be activated on any occasion that allows for companionship
This performance of companionship applies principles of interspecies relations through choreography and image making in order to expand a possible repertoire of human relations. The work proposes the exhibition space as a social art space, and a vital arena for designing and collecting strategies for being together. Diverse registers of visuality and sensibility generate a place of public intimacy and sensitivity proposing the practice of being together as a creative one.
The visitors engage artworks with and through the companionship of the performers and intersubjectivities emerge. Principles of touch, proximity and telepathy, co-create empathetic moments, and modes of communication that may seem otherwise inaccessible in everyday public life.
Hana Lee Erdman is a dance artist who works with choreography and curatorial practices, from both embodied and visual sensibilities. Her work generates a space of public intimacy and sensitivity, proposing the practice of being together as a creative one. She wants to see what we can do and how we can be together in order to create potential for transformative experiences through subtle and subversive shifts of power and exchange.
