The most hilarious thing about the fact Buckbeak had a trial and lost is that later on JKR resolves the issue by having Hagrid take him in again and renaming him Witherwings. That’s literally all it took. What if in POA, Hagrid simply said, “Sorry, Buckbeak flew away.” 

“There’s a hippogriff right there, Hagrid.”

“A different hipprogriff.”

“I’m… pretty sure that’s the same hipprogriff.”

Filling the Gryffindor common room with lilies turned into leaving a singular lily at her favorite place to study in the Library. Spelling out "Will you go out with me" in big, magic letters in the common room turned into non-magic letters passed discretely in class or in the common room.

this is something that is so very important to me and i am so happy people are talking about it! one strong case of this i notice a lot is in little women. jo is obviously the more masculine "feminist" one even though she looks down on the rest of her sisters because of their goals, a decidedly un-feminist thing. throughout the story she puts down meg and amy for being to feminine or not chasing their goals, even though their goals are just different from hers. having traditional gender roles doesn't mean you aren't a feminist. of course those loud more traditional feminist characters are still important, especially when that was not common at the time but now that that kind of character has been normalized, those kinds of people look down on others for conforming to their vision of feminism.

Yo I feel like the idea that the only historical women who counted are the ones who defied society and took on the traditionally male roles is… not actually that feminist. It IS important that women throughout history were warriors and strategists and politicians and businesswomen, but so many of us were “lowly” weavers and bakers and wives and mothers and I feel like dismissing THOSE roles dismisses so many of our mothers and grandmothers and great-grandmothers and the shit they did to support our civilization with so little thanks or recognition.
