xueyaang:
At the mention of his core, Xue Yang let himself laugh quietly under his breath. What core? he thought to himself, knowing that it was rather remarkable that he was among cultivators to begin with. Where most spent their younger years training and learning, his childhood was in the streets. But he’d gotten his start, and greedily relished every opportunity to climb to the top. With Demonic Cultivation, it turned out, he did not need a developed cultivation base or core like the top disciples in order to be a force of his own.
Jin Guangyao’s proposition certainly seemed attractive enough! His dark eyebrows lift towards his hairline as he nods approvingly. “That’s definitely an attractive offer to put out there. Guaranteed protection from getting silenced when your father gets tired of us, learn something good…” Xue Yang’s three-fingered left hand lifts up first before the other as though they were scales, weighing out his pros and cons. “Or I die now. Hm, I might be able to escape but it’s not really likely, is it? Huh. Positives seem to outweigh the negatives. Just a little extra work when I’m running my own errands, is all it seems like.”
Turning his hands over, they rest on his cocked hips as he smiles and lifts his head in a half-nod. “So there you have it, I’ll do it.” Xue Yang’s grey eyes turn curiously downwards to the now-dead man on the floor. Confidently, but still wary of getting too close to Jin Guangyao out of uncertainty of how close he would allow him to approach, he walks at an angle towards the body to get a full view of him.
“If I said no just then, would you have killed me like you did him?” he asks in a low, unfeeling voice. How appropriate that this man with dark-tipped, pale-tawny ears atop his head would treat his target like a true predator in the wilds would devour its prey.
Xue Yang’s curiousity over the corpse once again brings a wry smile to Jin Guangyao’s face. This bestial way of eating was a stark contrast to the composed image he’d so carefully crafted for himself among cultivators.
His tongue runs over his lips as he contemplates his answer before he stalks closer, taking caution to not step in any blood. A hand is placed firmly on Xue Yang’s shoulder and he grins.
“Would you beg as well if I tore you open like that~?” He teases, but shakes his head immediately after. “Of course you wouldn’t. I think... ah, I did say I’d make it swift for you but it would be more fun to be careful, go slowly so you could satisfy your curiousity. It’d be fascinating, wouldn’t it? I wonder what it’s like inside a demonic cultivator when your kind is so tainted by dark energies...”
A brief, sharp laugh (almost a bit too much like a fox’s barking) follows as he removes his hand from the younger man’s shoulder. It would be quite amusing to see the look on Xue Yang’s face as he is sliced open and carefully pulled apart, to see if he would scream or cry, but he has better plans for the boy now.
Grinning ear-to-ear he places his hat back atop his head, adjusting it carefully before turning his attention to ensuring his hair rests correctly over his shoulders.
“That’d be such a waste. There’s plenty others of your kind I’ll be able to devour soon enough, and then we might both learn a thing or two~.”

About Chronically Late Replies
I am absolutely guilty of this, and I don’t give a crap if your reply is a month late or even a year late. It tells me you’re still interested in rping with me. And even if I’m not in the headspace for that particular thread anymore it also tells me I can come at you with new ideas without being a nuisance. So reply away, no matter how long it’s been!

xueyaang:
Even without his wink at his own comment, Xue Yang’s mouth curls into an otherwise charming smile but he makes no further statement on the matter. That youthful smile, however, fades just slightly at the corners of his mouth as he listens to Jin Guangyao’s observations.
“Uncanny,” he says, nodding approvingly and raising his hands, palm out, in mock surrender. “But pretty accurate.”
But he listens to the proposition without interruption. His arms fold across his chest and he leans on one leg as he listens, but his eyes are on Jin Guangyao’s face as he speaks.
“Yeah, I thought that was coming.” He taps his jawline thoughtfully while thinking: Jin Guangshan wasn’t entirely capricious in the matters of the Stygian Tiger Seal, but he liked being discreet - even though he was more furtive about these matters than in his other… pursuits. Xue Yang knew that he himself pushed the boundaries at times, but a part of him wondered still what manner and method the Sect Leader would use to dispose of all them easily. After all, they weren’t completely useless yet - Xue Yang knew he was the closest to achieving these ends, or at least the most promising. It simply was not complete yet.
“This seems interesting, at least! Who knew that I could have an arrangement like this.” His eyes crinkle as he laughs quietly, and outside of the context it would have looked youthful and joyous. What choice did he have, but to agree? Binding himself to agreements was undesirable, but he did rather enjoy being alive. “Very well! But before I say yes What’s the catch?”
Always looking for a catch... well, Xue Yang wasn’t wrong to be wary, given what he had just stumbled into, but he was almost uncomfortably so. Clever as Jin Guangyao was, he knew being underhanded with Xue Yang would not be worth the effort when he could just as easily get what he wanted with honesty.
“Hm...” He taps a claw at his own chin in idle thought as he contemplates what ‘catch’ there might possibly be, outside of his initial threat of just devouring the young man.
“You are a demonic cultivator so I do not worry about the integrity of your core.” It did not seem like Xue Yang even had a properly formed golden core, though perhaps... “I suppose should you say yes, you will officially become my student. I can protect you and perhaps teach you something interesting.”
If he didn’t devour Xue Yang and took the younger man under his wing instead he could test a theory or two of his own. The man was hardly human as it was , why not see just how far he could push the demonic cultivator?
“Of course we already discussed what would happen if you decline me. I will at least make it a swift death without too much agony~.”

lavuan:
Seeing that the clan leader was busy, lips opened to apologize, body ready to turn and leave… but that died on his tongue once he was urged to take a seat. The familiarity of the man’s speaking took him off guard slightly – it was just the way his own family would address him. Even so, he nodded softly at the question, slowly settling down, “I have… though this place is very different from the mountains.”
The Lin’anYuan sect was small, only counting at about eighteen or nineteen people, not including himself and the other members of the blood clan. It was hardly anything worth noting compared to these much grander sects which numbered at well over thirty members apiece.
Fingers fiddled slightly with the cup, rubbing over cool porcelain, eyes set on the koi pond; “It is not quite as warm so far north. Nor as quiet. It is foolish, but I worried about becoming lost even on the way to orientation.”
The tiny cup clinked on the ground before him as it was set down. Yuan bowed his head, folding his hands together as he properly faced the man who had recruited him. Even if his family wasn’t exceedingly anxious to get into a larger clan’s good graces…
“I have no questions about orientation… but… I wished to thank you and ask… why is it that you scouted me? Surely there are others from much more prominent clans who would stand out. Forgive me, but the Yuan sect seems to be rather far to go to find good disciples.”
Behind his smile, Jin Guangyao notes the slight setback at his use of familiar address. He personally preferred it in private especially with those he brought into the sect personally, knowing how intimidating it could be to set foot into a strange sect on one’s own.
“I do understand it seems strange for one on the outside. You may or may not be aware of this, but my own background is not one of prominence,” Even to this day he was called the son of a prostitute and mocked in barely audible whispers. The hushed whispers as he continued to rise above the station of his birth only drove him to prove it was not where one came from, but one’s dedication that made a great cultivator.
Smile unwavering he casually waves his hand for the young man to lift his head properly. “You are very welcome for the opportunity. If a sect is unwilling to search to the corners of the land, can they truly be considered prominent? The greatest treasures are ones you have to dig hard for, so I do not consider it far or out of the way at all.”
He takes his tea cup up once more and nods.
“If the casual form of address is too much for you do let me know. I won’t address you as such in public, I would not wish for it to be mistaken for favoritism.”

Although he suggested ‘turning back’ from this path he understood as well as Wei Wuxian that there was little the demonic cultivator could do if it meant following his heart’s compass. It was merely a formality; that others could see he’d at least suggested it before moving forward with their discussion.
Even if his opinion of Jin Zixuan could be better, his half brother was not nearly as annoying as he had once thought. It was a shame that he stood in Jin Guangyao’s path as the only legitimate heir to the Jin sect , but perhaps with a little more hard work he would be able to gain their father’s approval and with it bury the last of the ugliness between them.
How very unlikely.
“Although your presence may be controversial, I would not say it is entirely true that you are unwelcome.” He allows himself the slightest of shrugs as to dismiss the notions of others, his smile as ever present and non-threatening as always.
“You have my word that your shijie will have allies within the Jin sect beyond my brother.” Notably, keeping her away from Jin Guangshan. He shuddered to think what that disgusting man might do should he be alone with a lady of Jiang Yanli’s graces. “I have heard the path you walk grows darker when your heart is in turmoil. If I can at all ease any of your concerns, please let me know.
I felt I should at least extend the invitation as I know first hand how difficult it can be to speak with Jin Zixuan.”

WEI WUXIAN FEELS HIS NERVES TENSED the moment Jin Guangyao exudes the mention of ‘turning back’. He had faced this question in all manner of ways, from Lan Wangji to Jiang Cheng, from Jiang Yanli to Lan Qiren, from those was wants to help him to those who encourage him. Wei Wuxian knew the reason behind his own decision, but he wasn’t keen on telling a second soul as to why he opted for this path - to abandon a promising future for a rocky path that descends into the abyss? A fool’s choice, but to Wei Wuxian, it had been the only choice. He takes a slow breath, gaze flickering as he watches the Jin clansman polished himself with words. Wei Wuxian couldn’t help but snorts when he thought about that Jin Guangyao attempted to do. He knew that it was absolutely crucial for the other man not to offend others due to his situation, however much it crossed his mind as being unnecessary. But then, he couldn’t quite discredit Jin Guangyao for his attempts - the reverse of their situations is the very solid proof of their choices. Wei Wuxian, who lived a dangerous life, who could’ve been assassinated at any given moment, who wrought enemies at every junction he crosses; to Jin Guangyao, who received praises and approval, nods of wonderment by every man outside his sect.
He supposed it wasn’t him to give up his principles and pride even if the reward had been a life of peace.
He didn’t care much for what or how Jin Guangyao decides to mask himself in front of others, but he couldn’t help appreciating that the other tried to please him even if there was no particular benefit for gaining his favour. Wei Wuxian’s opinion on Jin Guangyao had always been better than what he’d thought of Jin Zixuan and Jin Zixun. ❝No need for the nice words. I know I’m not welcomed, either way. As long as you are nice to shijie and my unborn nephew, I’m automatically your friend.❞ The version of him ten years into the future would’ve snorted at his naivety, a voice very distant from this apparent moment.

xueyaang:
He watches the other man rise to his full height, and he wonders briefly for a moment who is taller (he’d certainly never had the gift of height, no thanks in part to constant hunger as a child), but he files the curiosity away for later… if he even got to see later.
Jin Guangyao dropping his pleasant façade certainly got his attention, but Xue Yang wasn’t sure if it was a good sign or not. Still, he smiles lopsidedly and angles his head silently as he listens. He blinks when the felt hat comes off, and behind a blink his grey eyes turn towards the ears that suddenly appear. How interesting! That certainly explained the claws and the ravenous way he snapped up the core just moments ago. More questions would have to be entertained later.
“You certainly have a problem here.” Half-crossing his arms, Xue Yang taps his chin thoughtfully. Not that there was much to consider - he could turn around and yell to out the other man’s secret, but for what? There was nothing to gain, and it would be likely that Jin Guangyao, crafty as he was, would turn this against him. Not that this was a bad choice, but there were few options.
“You’re a funny one, Jin Guangyao. Me? A friend?” He chuckles, and takes two lazy steps forward to test the waters. “But I think we can come to an agreement. Seeing as you’re the one here with the power in your hands… ahem, claws… what is it that you’ve got on your mind? Dare I hope for anything more than to simply make it out of here alive tonight?”
“’Hands’ is preferred, I am not a monster.”
The remark is bookended with a wink from the very clearly monstrous Jin Guangyao as he meets Xue Yang’s two steps forward with several of his own, until they’re at a comfortable distance for conversation.
“Now then... I only speak based upon what I’ve observed so far. Xue Chengmei is smarter than to turn his back to me right now, and although your heart races and you do not know if you will last longer than a stick of incense you chance the hope you might stand to gain something. Or am I wrong?”
Throughout his speech he continues to study Xue Yang - his expression, his posture, his scent - in an effort to pick up what the younger might be attempting to hide. Xue Yang had ever been an interesting person, one who stood out above all the demonic cultivators the sect had recruited. There was much to be cultivated here and Jin Guangyao hoped he could make use of the possibilities Xue Yang presented.
“What I would like to suggest is a partnership. As you might guess I have difficulty finding time to hunt when I take into account all of my duties. You do not face such constraints, but you do have an uncertain future ahead of you at this moment. My father plans to dispose of you demonic cultivators the moment you become more of a liability than an asset.. but I could protect you. I can even see to it that you are well paid for your efforts. What do you think?”
#xueyaang#v: nine golden tails; huli jing#im starting to think he just likes to hear himself talk tbh
