I’ve been wanting to remake Amanojaku for years, but I never actually did it. This blog is very old and very messy, so my big news is I’m REMAKING him! A fresh start with a beloved comfort muse for me. 

There will be some CHANGES though, and the biggest one will be I am DROPPING ghost stories. I’m going to be rping the mythological creature Amanojaku with INSP from Ghost Stories instead of the other way around. 

I will drop a link to the new blog when I finish.

&& DEMON FORM || CAT BODY

I’ve wanted to sketch my headcanon of his demonic form while inside Kaya’s body for the longest time so I finally decided to just sit down and do it. So some notes...

He has his single horn like he does in most stories and depictions I’ve seen of him.

 He has wings because of his connection to his brother the Ten.gu.

 He sports the traditional fangs where there are top and bottom 

 His eyes remain blue/yellow but the pupil gains a faint pink/red hue which is his true eye color. 

Lastly, because his name means heavenly evil, I’ve always wanted to add something so I gave him a fallen halo that now serves as a collar.

  Holding him at arm's length, what a COWARD! His tail swished back and forth and he let out a low growl showing his disapproval of the state he was in, ears pressed back and flat against his head. He made a low chattering noise before taking another swipe accompanied by a hiss.                                                               That was it.

                                              “You have some nerve, BITCH.”

         He had enough of the facade, he was irritated and by the looks of it so was she. His ears perked up and his face fell from the snarl.

                          “What has you in such a piss poor mood anyway human?”

          His eyes narrowed for a second before snorting, he wasn’t looking for a fight with someone twice his size. This body limited his power and put a huge handicap on what he could and couldn’t do. Looking for a fight was just stupid, he attempted to make a deal to defuse the situation.

       “Listen, I’ll tell you what. You let me go and I’ll go find some other miserable mary’s motorbike to sit on, okay? Okay. Easy peasy killing a kid is easy, now unhand be before I remove your hand completely.”

                                           A bluff, also fighting words. Fuck.

&& THE CAT BODY

01. SIZE | HEALTH

Amanojaku in his FELINE body is actually rather scrawny compared to MOST regular tomcats. He has a sleek appearance and would actually rather avoid confrontation if it is not in his OWN territory. He can easily be picked up by a small child, so he doesn’t weigh that much. He is not mangey or gross. The feline body before it became his vessel was a BELOVED family pet so the feline is in healthy condition. His powers kind of freeze the body and preserve it with his energy. Like any cat, he is nimble and flexible. 

02. ANIMAL LANGUAGE

Before he was trapped in the feline he could NOT understand animals, but now he has gained the ability. He can understand FELINES of all sizes and types but struggles with other animals. He sometimes needs them to slow down or repeat what they were saying, He struggles the most with dogs as he doesn’t like them nor does he think they have anything valuable to say.

03. THE LAST EPISODE OF GHOST STORIES

Didn’t happen. Not canon to this blog at all, he never saved the kids and broke free of the cat. I doubt anyone is going to be upset over this fact, but yeah if anyone was curious I was debating it. However, the last episode is not canon at all to this blog. He is still very much trapped inside the cat unless it is his broken free au. 

04. SOULS | LIVES

In ghost stories, it mentions that cats have nine lives in that universe, so I also apply that canon on this blog. You would have to kill the feline body NINE times before they regenerate to free the demon. Then you would have to kill the demon itself. In AU verses the feline vessel was simply an anomaly and not all cats have nine souls, but his does.  BASICALLY, if you wanna kill him you have to kill the cat nine times and then finally the demon, OR if your muse has soul ability just kill the demon soul free the cat. The cat NEVER dies, simply gets freed from the demon. 

05. FOOD | CAT BEHAVIOR

Amanojaku DOES crave food but does NOT need it to survive. He is inside a living vessel, but his demonic energy keeps it alive. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t have any FELINE impulses, though, he DOES have a variety of them. This includes his body language, scratching himself, grooming his ears, eating, being interested in fish, being distracted by shiny things, you name it he has to fight off those urges and sometimes submits to them. This is pretty much canon since he mentions he wants his FOOD DISH filled in one episode, and he wants the fish his human was cooking. Also, he likes to nap in weird ass places a lot.

&& AMANOJAKU & AFFECTION/KINDNESS

        If you show him any type of affection or kindness he will grow an interest in your muse, he is canonically LONELY. He pretends to hate it, but DEEPLY craves attention which is why he targets children and brides two groups of people who are showered in constant attention and praise. This does not mean he LOVES your muse, just means he wants to keep them around for as long as possible or until he gets BORED.

         However, he will hang around like crazy after affection or kindness is shown hoping to get it AGAIN. This is true in all my verses, he wants some sense of companionship and once he cares about a person he will prevent other creatures/humans from BREAKING HIS TOYS. However, once they die he will move on to the next subject of his attention.

          As a creature who was rejected by his own Mother, he has a weird relationship with maternal people or mothers in general. To some extent he wants it, craves it, the idea of being accepted and feeling like he belongs somewhere is appealing. He achieves this by stealing children identities, however, deep down he knows it is not HIM they love but rather the hollow shell he is pretending to be. If he comes to this conclusion he will grow angry and attempt to damn the mother for her “crime against him.”

         When he became stuck as a cat, he was chased off from most places. Never truly getting that same attention he received when he was pretending to be a child or bride. That made him bitter. He hates the cat body with a passion because he rarely receives the attention he is ADDICTED to. However, if you are kind to him, despite his aggression, past his bitterness. He will grow fond of that person and act like a family guardian rather than a family curse, however, if you do him wrong he won’t rest until your family line is exterminated.

&& PSA || What the heck is the anime GHOST STORIES & do I need to watch/ know it before rping with you? A quick Q & A

Quick Response: No. Legit No. You don’t need the anime at all, the anime is legit a joke. I don’t even use most of the anime for Amanojaku, mine is based a lot more on mythology than the anime itself. The main two things I took from the anime are  1. He is trapped inside a cat’s body (sealed inside for being deemed a danger to humanity) 2. He talks like a meme, asshole, tool  Godmodding: Nobody wants to godmod, and I appreciate people are normally so careful but since I’ve almost always rped animal muses my rules for god modding are a touch different. My muse is small, able to be handled, and you’re welcome to handle him as such! I understand as an animal muse, I’ve given up a variety of control when I rp with other people. You’re allowed to take actions against my muse that you typically couldn’t with a human muse, it helps move the story along. Don’t be afraid to touch, fight, hit, pet, grab, and everything else. No limits, think of realistically what you could do to a cat vs a person. You have a lot more control so, I expect most people to use their muse to their full advantage!  Also side note about spiritual power muses (ex: BL.EACH muses, F.F muses, DEMO.N/ANg.EL muses, and so on) they are 100% allowed to know he’s not a cat. That’s not godmodding to me, he’s an extremely wicked spirit sealed inside a cat. It feels natural to me that they would immediately know something is up, to what extent? Probably not the full extent until he releases his spiritual pressure/energy but your muse is TOTALLY allowed to call him on shit. They can even feel that he’s not good natured, allowed to claim he’s evil, yadda yadda. 

Q: What is Ghost Stories? A:  Here’s the premise: Kids and ghosts. When young Satsuki finds an old book of spells from her recently deceased mother, she gains the power to fight ghosts that are haunting her new school. With the help of her friends, and of a really wicked devil cat, (bakeneko) she must protect everyone around her or continue to be haunted. The original anime tanked so hard, that with some rules the dub team was allowed to rebrand the whole thing. ADV's dubbed version retains the basic plot structure and storyline, but alters much of the dialogue into comedy written by ADV screenwriter Steven Foster and ad-libbed by the voice actors. Q: Is there even a gHost StoRieS fANdoM? A: Nope. I’ve been rping Amanojaku for yeARS and I’ve never interacted with another character from the show. So my WHOLE muse is based on crossovers, which is why I just level with people. It’s more a muse based on Japanese Mythology than it is a muse based on the anime.  Q: Can your muse fit into just about everything? A: You bet! He absolutely can and does fit into most shows really well, especially anime as he’s one of the oldest Japanese legends out there.  Q: Can my muse detect or feel that he isn’t a normal cat? A: YOU BET YOUR ASS THEY PROBABLY CAN, he’s basically considered the TRUEST evil so to say your muse can sense something weird about him is TOTALLY reasonable! It’s def not god moding if your muse knows he’s weird, if they have ties to spirits and are relatively powerful they 100% can tell he’s not a cat. 

Q: Can my muse kill him for mouthing off? A: YES. ACTUALLY YES. He has 9 lives and at the end of those lives the soul will be split from the vessel but the problem is the lives regenerate. That stops him from freeing himself from the vessel, but in theory, if someone wanted to free him as long as they killed him 9 times very quickly they could. Then if they have a spiritual weapon that can kill spirits, yep they can kill him. My point is, if you muse wants to take a few of those lives you don’t need my permission. If you want to split the soul from the vessel, just plot with me and we can def do that! I’m really open to everything!  My point is, my muse doesn’t really have many rules. Your muse doesn’t have to hold back even a little bit, I like it when my rp partner feels like they can manuver their muse very freely. So, go ahead. Act exactly how your muse would act, take advantage of the fact he is a cat, take advantage of the fact he’s got multiple lives. The sky’s the limit.

The demon let out a blissful sigh, and instantly dropped to his knees, reaching out to grab the cat to try and pull it closer to his face.

          The smell of ANOTHER DEMON was a smell he could never mistake, their scents were distinct but there was always something familiar about them. Even now in England, he could SMELL their presence. He supposed no country was safe, he had traveled a long way from Japan to reach this country. To say he was here on vacation though was far from the truth, he was looking for someone. His eyes glinted a bit just thinking about that BITCH’S family line, he’d slaughter every last one. It didn’t matter how far he had to track, how far he had t-

          The overwhelming smell stopped him dead in his tracks, that energy was unmistakable. English demons packed one hell of a punch, didn’t they? Pungent and grotesque, he felt sorry for the poor bastard that ran into that freak. All too quickly the faux feline found himself being that poor bastard as he was face to face with that overpowering presence. 

           FUCK! He must be in this miserable bastards territory, he didn’t expect to be confronted THIS quickly. His two-toned eyes fixated on the man before him, a low growl coming from him as he lowered his body to the ground. Black fur began to spike up as his tail whipped back and forth angerly. As he was pulled closer, his own demonic energy began to leak out of his feline prison. His claws unsheathed and his fangs growing in size as his energy began to grow, however, it was all shattered in an instant as he heard the man speak. 

                                              ....                                                    HANDSOME??!!? 

             “Are you fucking hitting on me!? Here I thought you wanted to fucking fight me and YOU’RE HITTING ON ME!? That’s it, fuck this, where is the next ship out of this god damn freak show of a country?!” 

           The cat pushed his paw up against the butler’s face to push him away as his tail swatted aggressively behind him.

          His ear twitched at her voice saying FAMILY’S PROPERTY, well shit this was a problem. Looks like he was busted, but then again she didn’t seem to care all that much, did she? He looked down at his paws, right, nobody thinks all that much of this form, do they? Not exactly threatening. The faux feline’s two-toned eyes focused on her, and then her lunch. Who the FUCK eats their lunch this high up in a tree?? He shifted his attention to look down lazily before back at her, his body sprawling out on the limb to get a little closer to her upon noticing she had food.

        Time to change his tone, the last thing he wanted would be to end up losing some of his lives to this woman’s blade. His yellow eye shifted to look at the sword while the other went to focus on her face, it was a creepy display that he corrected by swatting his head with a paw causing both eyes to roll back into place. Everything about him was OFF, his body didn’t fit right, as if it was foreign to the spirit inside of it. It was a subtle detail but enough to put someone on edge upon studying him closely, he rose to his feet and sat on his haunches. A paw raised up as he coughed, the sound of distorted static coming out. His voice began to mimic that of a young boy and his pupils grew wide and innocent instead of sharp and confrontational. 

        “Oh goLly gee CAPTAIN KUCHIKI, I didn’t meAn to offEnd you. HonEST! i’M juSt A liTTle tEstY becAUsE I’m SO hunGRY.”, another cough of static as the tone leveled out and the voice became natural. 

        “It’s awfully hard when nobody wants to share any food.”, his ears went back as he scooted closer to her trying to pull at her heartstrings. He tilted his head slightly and took another tentative step closer, “Would you share your food with me?” He gave her a look that could be compared to puppy dog eyes as his tail flicked back and forth. How long had it been since he had eaten? He was thankful this body was small, but his appetite didn’t match. If given the chance he’d eat anyone out of house and home, but a bite was better than nothing. He was STARVING.

&& ABILITY HEADCANONS | Stealing an Identity  tw: mu.rder / bod.y ho.rror / de.ath / manip.ulation 

   I’ve never gone into real good detail of what all Amanojaku can and can’t do, but I will say I’ve based some of his abilities on Skinwalkers & Wendigo. Since not much is known about his actual mythology it’s hard to know what he can and can’t do. What I do know though is that he is a COPYCAT DEMON.

    Now Scoob what do you mean by COPYCAT demon? Well, I mean exactly that, the only CONSISTENT thing about Amanojaku is that he is known to tempt people to commit their most dark and disturbing desires. That, in turn, pollutes their souls causing them to become damned. However, in the most famous legend about an Amanojaku, the creature tricks a young bride into letting him into her home. He takes advantage of that and kills the woman, eating her before wearing her skin and BECOMING HER. So, a small breakdown of what he can and can’t do.

01. Kill and Wear the flesh of a person he chooses, he will become that person and act out their life. He will mask his demonic aura, not completely but by a lot when doing this. -01. He can not AGE, whatever age the person was is now the age he is trapped. He can not cause the skin to grow, as it is more of less an empty puppet now.

02. Mock voices perfectly. He will normally chat with the person before he kills them, he can master a voice after hearing it once. He will sometimes stalk his prey beforehand and learn the voice of someone close to them to lure them to a more secluded spot. -02. He can not obtain their memories or personality traits, he has to either LEARN them or he doesn’t care enough and acts how he pleases.

03. His favorite targets are CHILDREN & BRIDES -03. Because of his choices he can only pretend for so long. Children grow up, and because he never grows he normally will only play with that life for a few years. After he has had his fun he will normally tempt the parent of the child to commit a wicked deed and leave them with the hollow shell of their child if he doesn’t care enough to kill them. As for brides, he will play this role much longer until getting bored and kills his lover. He has had a few he enjoyed enough to watch them die of old age, but that is very rare.

         Laying on his back the feline looked up at the sky, how many years had it been? How long had he been stuck in this weird limbo of life and death? He blinked before his ears were ringing with an ungodly scream, ah. He rose to his paws and followed the sound, where there was a Hollow there was food. Not that they liked sharing but who the fuck honestly cared? 

           The smell of BLOOD started to fill his nose before the spiritual pressure vanished. Oh god damn it, did someone kill it already? What a joke! He reached the scene and saw a man standing there, it was obvious what had happened and yet color the feline severely unimpressed. 

          “Well aren’t you a JACKASS. Here to ruin my day, I’ll tell you that much. Do you KNOW how many stupid humans that beautiful bastard would have KILLED? How much I could have EATEN? Well to be fair, if that beast was killed by someone who looks like you perhaps it couldn’t have given me that big of a feast.” 

          A snicker before the feline snorted and turned to be on his way. If there was no food here, then there was no point in him being here now was there? The man behind him interested him little, a shinigami by the look of that getup. This century didn’t exactly have such POOR fashion choices, he would know since he’s been alive long before that era. In a way it gave him memories, fun used to be in high supply and he was almost never hungry. That was long before the damn accident, now he was stuck in this flesh suit. 

           Shinigami were a nuisance, Hollows were tolerable since they at least made themselves useful at times, and everything else could suck a dick. Especially humans, god he hated humans.
