the most horrible thing I could think of was part of me being what ejaculated out of the end of his stupid penis (Charles Bukowski, Love for Three Oranges)

Did you know that the first translation of 1984 by George Orwell in Czech was translated and illegaly published while there was still socialism (communism) occupation in Czechoslovakia? It was translated by slovakian teacher and translator Eva Šimečková with afterword written by her husband, slovakian writer, Milan Šimečka and posted symbolically in the year 1984 through czechoslovakian publishers in West Germany reflecting the situation in their home country.
The original publishion here:

And the first legal publishion (in 1991):

And that's not quite all. It actually funny that Eva Šimečková and Milan Šimečka are the grandparents of slovak politician Michal Šimečka (the leader of the most active political (social-liberal) party called Progresívne Slovensko in the slovak opposition against the soviet glorifiing coalition).

Great to know about these iconic moments in the history of czechoslovakian literature.

...bang bang, my baby shot me down
seasons came and changed the time
when I grew up I called him mine
he would always laugh and say
"Remember when we used to play?"

I had the first (and probably the last) taste of slovak privilege thanks to Anthony Burgess.

When we were young, me and my friend who lived in an apartment across from me, used to help the "black" ants by killing the "red" ones and thought it meant a great deal in their war, surely if they could think they would definitely be grateful and praise us.
It's so funny to me that he supports the Red army now.
