The Portrait of Pope Innocent XIV and Cardinal Lawrence (2025)

An homage to Jacques-Louis David's 1808 portrait of Pope Pius VII and Cardinal Caprara during Napoleon's coronation that depicted the Pope's stressful moment as he was forced by Napoleon to travel to Paris.

In this piece I envision that Pope Innocent XIV’s papacy faces some resistance from the traditionalist faction and the weight of it is evident on both their faces.

He wears the Roman chasuble (I used elements of the design by Lisy Christl) and Lawrence wears his pectoral cross (by Riccardo Penko) pinned to his cassock in order to appease the opposition by superficially adopting traditional aesthetics while he implements Church reforms, inspired by the real life reception of Pope Leo XIV by online Trads despite very clearly continuing Pope Francis’s legacy. 

Vincent was also “forced” into the papal throne when he was elected Pope, leaving behind his flock in Kabul, adding to his melancholy.

This will be in my Comic Frontier 21 prints catalog, and is the first in a series of art history inspired Conclave fan art that I have planned for a future personal zine project. International sales and shipping for my other prints are still in the works, but I'll post an update once all is set!

After like 3 weeks this art is finally done (Easter and travels put me on a break to my utter frustration). Not entirely happy about how it turned out, but at least it's done. Of course, it's once again Polish version of Jesus Christ Superstar (Teatr Muzyczny w Toruniu), do not think I'm done with it. XD Since it's Polish version I added lyrics of one old Polish song that actually fits perfectly to post-betrayal Judas. So here you have all lyrics translation with lyrics you can see on the artwork emphasised.

Some drawings of Matthew from The Chosen TV series, a character I love very much 🤍 I personally enjoy this show so much, the main stories are directly from The Bible but they change and add new stuff to humanise the characters and that makes it very unique in my opinion. It has become a comfort show for me and inspired me to do fan art, so that’s amazing 🙌🏻

Genuinely almost forgot that Easter is like a real actual religious holiday celebrated by millions of people and not just a niche tumblr fandom event to nerd out about the Jesus Christ Superstar musical, sort of like barricade day in the Les Mis fandom.

Going on with my Polish 2025 JCS obsession and, my dudes, Marcin Wortmann is my Judas. Can't have him recorded, will steal him for you in art. Dude has the softest blue eyes and most vulnerable features of all Judases and it's a great contrast to this edgy design he has. And he holds all difficult notes with no fails so, there is that. Also so many desperate staring contests between him and JC. Damn! These two. 💜

GUYS! I have Intel from Queen Herod. She sent me priv message on Instagram to say they will renew Polish version of JCS (Teatr Muzyczny w Toruniu one)! They will plausibly be back with it in September, take it to festival in Poznań in November, and will also play in March. They are in talks about summer shows as well. No recording then, but at least it will be back. Well, with this sudden news I'm actually hoping for audio rec, as it really must be big for this small Toruń town to renew it. Goodbye money, welcome JCS. Need to drag others with me, because everybody has to see it. 😁

Bloody, fuckin' hell, last two days were a wild ride. Went to see JCS for 2nd time. Caiaphas gave me fake drugs during the show, I could throw flowers at Jesus again, and entered stage to stand by the cross. All actors, including my lovely Evil Pharisees Polycule, sent me comments and love for my art. And I met like 4 new ppl via this show and we chat about musicals and stuff... I had more social interactions in 48h than in a year because of this musical. And tomorrow last two shows are to be played and it's over... Can you believe it? 😭 It's certainly best live musical I saw in my entire life and probably my fav JSC version as a whole. It will have no DVD or CD. Nothing. I bought lots of merch. Like three giant posters with Jesus, Judas and Pharisees. I don't even have this many walls. And, chaotic as this post is, I must add also that this Judas played by Marcin Wortmann is my ultimate Judas for now and forever. And I mean it. He sings the part perfectly and is amazingly vulnerable. I saw him sob from up close cause I was by the stage with no distance from it. I had to be careful not to be hit by actors dancing on pool - THIS CLOSE. Never been this close to musical happening ever. There is a tiny chance they will renew it or record a CD (there is no Polish CD JCS at all, can you believe it?), but nothing confirmed. I GO FERAL, GUYS.

Since JCS obsession is fully back I provide Pharisees from Polish production. With Polish version of Team Rocket motto. They just have this sort of design, you know... Evil Polycule or sth. Also, I loved them. Caiaphas had most unexpected low voice ever and he looks so damn young and, well, like a twink. And yet, dude was perfect for the role. Basically all of them. 💜

Me is melting as my recent half-witted fanart with Jesus and Judas from Polish (Toruń) version gets likes from the cast now. Me collected repost by theatre, comment and like from Pilate, like from Judas (not the one I saw, but damn!) and Jesus (my one 😳)... It's not much, but it makes me happy. 🤎🤎🤎

Guys, guys, hear me out, cause I'm once again spiralling down into JCS rabbit hole... So yesterday I went to see local JCS show and, tbh, I was going there with firm belief it's gonna be shitty. (Fast forward, it most definitely was not.) I mean, it's one of my top five fav musicals, never seen it live as me lives in Poland and I do not trust translation and aesthetics of the JCS shows here. I saw snippets of various Polish versions and they were usually dull, weird in bad sense or oddly conservative.

Not this time, baby! So since it was a local show, in Toruń (not a big city), I expected it to be... You know... But, damn, it was good. So basically they chose immersive format, meaning there was no real stage, but scaffoldings of sorts and actors were all around us, interacting, dancing and all. It was also a silent disco show so we had glowing headphones to listen to the show. They chose club/strip club aestethics with audience being inside the club like, you know, part of the show. Pharisees were portrayed as drug dealers and Judas, in finale, bought drugs from them to overdose instead of usual hanging. Basically, all bad guys in power gave club owners vibe. And being part of it, and being, at the end taken by hand by actors to stand by the cross... Bloody amazing.

And me liked Judas a lot. Aesthetics and all. It even pushed me to draw these two, Jesus and Judas, and God knows I did not touch my tablet in months (it was all dusty 😅).

Anyways, dedicate it to @purple-confusion . Just because you're still here, posting JCS stuff and I appreciate it. And also once you tagged me saying you miss me and I saw it and it was lovely to be missed... Know it's not one of versions you know, but it's still JCS. 💜
