So...

How I feel about this character:

RAT DAD, RAT DAD, RAT DAD!

I love him so much. This is the definitive Splinter for me. A perfect blend of father and sensei.

He loves his kids so much... T-T

All the people I ship romantically with this character:

I don't really have anyone. ^^'

My non-romantic OTP for this character:

He seems to be fairly close to the Daimyo from the Battle Nexus! And I imagine it has to be really weird for both of them, considering the Daimyo knew him before he mutated. But I like to think they exchange thoughts on fatherhood and martial arts whenever they meet up.

My unpopular opinion about this character

I don't really know HOW unpopular this opinion is, but I see a lot of people getting more and more up in arms about the parenting choices made by the various Splinters, and for this version, I've seen people take issue with how he deals with Leo's fear of heights.

Namely, after he spends a lot of time trying to help turtle tot Leo through training, and it still hasn't worked, he fakes being in danger, which forces Leo to act, climbing a metal pipe over a height.

He then reveals that he wasn't in danger after all, and tells Leo how proud he is of him.

I've seen people describe this as cruel and manipulative.

As someone who suffers from a fear of heights myself... I think they only way I'd be willing to get past it is if someone I loved was in danger.

Besides, it tracks well with Leo's love for his family, and sense of responsibility.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

Give this man grandchildren. Please.

How to read X-Men?

For the dear X-Men fans that came in through 97 (or the movies) and are confused as to where to start the comics! Don't let the internet fool you, there is only one way and it is by starting with Giant size X-Men #1 (1975). No I am not kidding, it truly is the only right way to get the full story😭 (unless you want to go ALL THE WAY to 1963, I don't necessarily think it's that vital)

This is me trying to keep ppl from making the same mistake I did, starting with wheadon's astonishing X-Men ☠️

This is to get ALL the context and major story arcs still referenced today. So I believe it to be vital for the other eras. (I don't know how you can fully understand jean and Scott's relationship today without having read inferno or dark phoenix for example)

Now, If you just wanna read for one specific character, that's a different story! Character specific reading guides that concentrate on the important issues across time exist! Look for those they're very useful <3
