(Also, Darry has an epiphany (am I using that word correctly) that his younger brother is older and living his dreams. He's no longer the scared 14 year old kid that he slapped for staying out too late or that he had to take care of when their parents died. No, he's an ADULT coming home from his first year at COLLEGE??? Even more emphasized by Pony having a sports scholarship (probably) for track. Something that Darry got but never got to use, his was for football but whatever. It's not just Pony being taller that bothers Darry. It's the constant reminder that things have changed and are still changing. That may be his kid brother, but he sure as hell ain't a kid no more. Wow, imagine that???)

someone said pony shoots up in height in college and now all i can imagine is darry instinctively going to ruffle pony’s hair but then realizing he has to reach up to do it now and he just contemplates his life up until that point (i thrive on gentle giant ponyboy hcs guys)
