This. Is. Pride. Pretty much. Oppressed people should not have to meet the standards of their oppressors in order to be seen as deserving of freedom. If our oppressors wanted us to be free, we would be free. If they wanted to respect us and not do us harm, we would be respected and kept from harm. iAMTuck and I hereby dub this day, #tabootuesday In this photo, I’ve captured most of the pill bottles that I have emptied this year. (From Jan2021 to now). I have two prescriptions to help me manage depression, anxiety, and attention issues. Medication is just as much a part of the way that I take care of myself as is a trip to the spa. The purpose of this post is to identify and discredit the stigmas weaponized against people taking psychiatric medication. If learning that I take medication to manage my mental health impacts your view of me; that’s your burden to bear. I am whole and worthy of love; end of discussion. To anyone managing your mental health with medication or considering doing so; listen to what you need and let that guide your decision. You deserve to get the care and support you need; other people’s opinions be damned. And yes, “other people” can include lovers, close family and friends. Anyone who shames you away from the care you need is just as toxic as not getting said care. I see you. I love you.
