CO FASHION WEEK HUMANIZE FASHION WEEK campaign... Denver, CO, Saturday. March 2, 2019. hi, my name is JUSTICE KWESI KWARTENG and i'm responsible for making people pay better attention to the promise of AN ECONOMICALLY SUSTAINABLE Fashion INDUSTRY for the beautiful City of Denver. when i decided to launch CO FASHION WEEK to put the majestic STATE on the international fashion map, a lot of the decision members at the CITY didn't see it's ECONOMIC viability, at first. on another note, some of the city employees were good friends with the majority of my DETRACTORS from the LOCAL FASHION INDUSTRY & so they did everything possible to make it very DIFFICULT as needed for me to bring FASHION WEEK to life. BUT i knew better to not let them block my VISION. my persistence paid off when i finally run into an independent CONSULTANT for the city who was willing to HEAR MY VISION. he decided to do what he could and MADE SOME INTRODUCTIONS to the right people, at the right time, for me. i hit the ground running AND MADE FASHION WEEK happen out of, simple, pure WILL and GRIT. i had NO MONEY or investors & so i SOLD anything of value to me and used the money as my seed CAPITAL. i lived in boulder at the time & there days that i couldn't even afford to take the BUS to get to DENVER for meetings & so i would borrow my roommate's car. ON THE Opening Day of CO FASHION WEEK, with a big article in the lifestyle session of the DENVER POST & boundless excitement in the air about FASHION WEEK, I STILL OWED the city $5K as part of the cost for using the BUELL THEATER for my event. AS A RESULT, the comptroller for the city came & CONFISCATED my laptop, to use as COLLATERAL. But i needed the laptop because it contained the names of all the MODELS and designers & RUN-OF-SHOW. i begged her, the comptroller, but she assured me she was just doing her job--and she was right. GOD IS ALWAYS so good to: A STRANGER ENDED UP paying for the debt about 11am that morning, on their credit card, & the city gave me my computer back. #VulnerabilityREQUIRED: a Master Class on how to turn ADVERSITY and failure in the SKILL of GRIT. IT DOESN'T MATTER... the wrong that has been done to you. it doesn't matter the most hurtful words that has been said to you. it doesn't matter because you are none of those words. it only matters if you make it so. most people live in a place of permanent victim-hood. BUT THIS WHAT I KNOW to be true: i have told to go back home to Africa by folks in Louisville, Kentucky; i've lost a few women i dearly love because a member or two of/in their family did not approve of the COLOR OF MY SKIN; i've been told by someone of my own blood that if they were on their death bed, i was the ONLY ONE they were to receive a blood donation from, they would rather die. i have been prevented from entering MY OWN HOME by a resident who assumed i did not live there. i have heard AND experienced the most HUMILIATING forms of discrimination in, both, my personal and professional lives. yes, it rattled me in the very moments--especially when i was younger and DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO or how to handle it. but i decided to commit myself to understanding the very CAUSES to, and reasoning behind, WHY PEOPLE HATE. i sought and found me a zen TEACHER, hakubai zenji. zenji mentored me and taught me to use the power of ZAZENto quiet the mind and MASTER my universe. zenji was awesome to me--he opened his ZENDO to me and gave 1-to-1 lessons. his even took me in when i lost my home due to a relationship ending. ZENJI'S emboldened me to not be afraid and take bigger risks.
