In a gaming scene dominated by retellings of Greek and Norse mythology and the endlessly reused Medieval aesthetic, Black Myth Wukong feels like a breath of fresh air, introducing bus loads of people in the West to a vast mythology the overwhelming majority of them have no point of contact with.

Is everyone who plays Wukong gonna read Journey to the West? Definitely not. But even if 0.5% of them did, that would still be thousands of people becoming familiar with one of the most influential stories in the Chinese literary corpus. Some of those people might go on to read Outlaws of the Marsh or any other wuxia novel, perhaps picking up little nuggets of Chinese cultural knowledge along the way.

These windows onto another culture create a thread of empathy that, I think, goes a long way toward getting people interested in the cultures they aren't a part of, and you can learn a lot about a group of people via the stories they tell. Their cultural norms, values and ways of being in the world are at least partially communicated via their popular fiction, and if a video game is the way people in my country can get interested in the stories and history of another culture, I'll take it!

Shut up. If you made it half way through of a 43 episode series, and you're at episode 26, guess what. That means the series was still good enough to keep you interested for almost 20 hours.

And if you were being truthfully honest, you would have also mentioned in your long ass shitty post that the FL made childish, impulsive and stupid decisions AND REAPED THE CONSEQUENCES BIG TIME RIGHT AFTER. Sometimes I think so many loud ass people on the internet make it their character to dump shit on things just for the sake of it. I enjoyed interaction with a 3D fictional man that I disliked the most at first lol

It makes my head spin when I think about it.

At first, I hated his quips because he comes off as whiny. His comments and dialogues irked me a lot and considering that he was supposedly one of the love interests, my initial reaction to him was very surprising to me. Love interest? Nah. He's my arch nemesis that I will tease and flip off forever for revenge. (Like i said shut up and get lost whenever its him on the screen)

Now, he's the only character that I find interesting in the entire game lmao

This is an actual case of developing feelings of attraction to someone by getting to know them better. A side story about him showed he can be funny with his sarcasm and from then on, I started to laugh at his whines and dramatic moments. He makes me laugh to the point I started liking his reactions whenever I tease him (for example, he hates working out and he has many ways on how to let you he hates it through dialogues and its so damn funny every time so I was like okay, workout everyday for you it is lmao)

Kudos to the devs and writers behind this character.

I think this is a really interesting and meaningful question. Thank you for the question. Tbh I don't think any actors will fit. This involves an idea or unwritten rule of chinese fandoms including xianxia fiction and especially otome game (by especially I mean If Paper is going to do this, it's crazy, it's suicidal, it wants to go out of business, and no game company would dare to do this, including genshin impact. Chinese players will kill them no kidding lmao. Because of this, such attempts also face a vacuum market that no consumer or audience will buy into. If they ever do this, it must be all of them possessed by aliens). Chinese fandoms think no real persons can be compared with or can cast zhipianren纸片人(lit. paper people, referring to all fictional characters born in two dimensions such as art, novels, animations and games, etc., with positive overtones). They call the practice of capitalists trying to bring live-action revival on zhipianren/paper people 真人化zhenrenhua(real people casting paper people, slightly pejorative in fandoms and neutral in non-fandoms). They think zhipianren is pure and remains artistry given by their creators. And actors for otome game characters? I asked my chinese friend and she said shockingly 真人请勿碰瓷纸片人 meaning real people stop piggybacking on paper people's popularity and clout. So that is basically the fundamental viewpoint of chinese otome game fandoms. I don't think they are haters of actors because so many players believe that otome characters are real in another dimension, in fact not only otome but also many other fandoms, and artists also believe that their OCs are real in another dimension. It's almost a kind of pure faith. In addition they believe that the appearance and grooming of zhipianren is perfect, and this perfection does not refer to their bodies or faces, but to a kind of demeanor and temperament of theirs, which, because it exists only in a two-dimensional space, can be fully imagined and experienced by people. Zhenrenhua will completely ruin the imagination and the pleasure. Besides the point, chinese fandoms always get the first hand information of chinese entertainment industry so they've seen too many nasty scandals and flops of male actors especially idol actors. Cnetizens are pungently honest, and most of them just despise male chinese actors, especially idol actors (excluding a few with both talents and personal morals and proved himself with years of efforts, e.g. zhang songwen张颂文 in The Knockout/狂飙 but he is not idol actors so). Just because these idol actors have a large following on social media doesn't mean the general public likes them. I asked my friend and she said there's also the fact that people are extremely picky about the appearance of actors playing zhipianren, and it has nothing to do with discrimination, people just don't want their imaginations tarnished. But there are a few zhenrenhua that are big hit, and even though there are still a few hard-core fans of the original work who boycott them, the general public and a lot of fans of the original work love them, e.g. the Untamed陈情令, and Yi Ren Zhi Xia异人之下/The Outcast (the cdrama version, and they think the movie version recently released is a piece of shit). That's why I agree with them that there is no actor who will fit the bill.

I finally decided to watch (torture myself) a chinese drama after taking a rest from the genre for a couple weeks (aka after finishing war of faith) and my lucky pick was till the end of the moon based only on 1) a post i read a long time ago about how interesting ep 1 was for a xianxia 2) 40 ep sounded like a good number (i was a fool) and 3) it really has a pretty op. And here i am. I went completely blind and im really glad i did? After finishing it yesterday (and crying my eyes out just as many times as the characters spitted litters of blood) i did my regular well lets see what other ppl thought of it in the trusthworthy internet and afsghjsjs its actually incredible how bad some ppl are at consumming media and making tantrums bc things dont happen exactly as they wanted them to. The ed was enjoyable, i expected far worse, and it even alludes with zero subtely to the original novels ending (that i just learned about) but somehow ppl still act as if it was an absolute garbage can when even i, a total blind watcher, could tell it leaned strongly to the happy ending a lot of ppl were crying about being robbed of???????? And convincing ppl to never watch it bc of their own biased pre conceptions about it??????? Pls. How utterly annoying. Till the end of the moon is a fantastic emotional rollecoster that production troubles aside manages to have you totally invested for 40 ep with an ending that in no way "ruins the whole show" just bc it didnt follow the exact step by step detailed recreation some ppl apparently needed? Pls first watch the ending of the rebel and then start talking about a truly bad executed "bad ending".
