I think people take fords dumb decisions too seriously in a show where there are squashes with human faces and emotions.
Like, people constantly talk about how he doesn’t take the end of the world seriously by entrusting the rift to dipper and nobody else, and to me it’s so obvious that this is a decision that was pretty carefully considered.
He’s exactly the kind of guy to take all the wrong things seriously. He keeps his infinite dice in a cheap protective plastic case, he kept his portal schematics separated into three books, and then didn’t even flinch as he continued building the thing. HES THE KIND OF MAN TO SCREAM FOR HELP, CLAIMING HIS FACE IS ON FIRE AS A TEST TO SEE HOW QUICKLY YOU’LL REACT.
He’s so completely and utterly absorbed by his mad scientist interests that he will miss the blatantly obvious.
He’s a cartoon character, he’s exaggerated.
