Kaspar, the Centaurian Mage

I had to draw more of him. Again, he doesn’t really have a face, but I’m working on that. For some reason, I just can’t be happy with faces right now, and this was mostly just a posing practice anyway.

I tried to make Kaspar a little more muscly in his arms, and broadened his chest a little. And I added Kamuk sitting on his hindquarters, so yeah! I might draw Tomlin too, but we’ll see about that.

And yes, Kamuk is a weird little fox-like creature who wears another creature’s skull on his head. No one actually knows what his face is really like under that, but yeah! That’s just Kamuk.

The story behind him, is this. He comes from a world where centaurs are treated as slaves, and used the same as any regular horse, except their treatment is worse, and they are often hated and abused. Kaspar was a workhorse for a noble family up in the northern country, and he was often beaten when he failed to work hard enough for them. Finally, he lost his temper and badly injured the lord’s teenage son, nearly killing him in a fit of anger.

Once Kaspar was restrained and subdued, he was sold off and labeled as dangerous. So he ended up a slave brawler in the arenas, fighting for his life day in and day out. It was deemed that if he had such a violent temperament, then it would be put to use for the entertainment of the citizens, rather than being allowed to work the fields or anything of the sort ever again.

And he lived like this for five years. Five years as a brawler, barely surviving the onslaught of opponents, only to fight again the next day, hardly given a chance to rest. Until.. Finally he collapsed. Too exhausted to continue, and too beaten to survive much longer even if he did get up again. So a decision had to be made. Either allow his opponent to deal the final blow and kill the beaten centaur, or he would be sold again, this time.. for a fate far worse.. The butcher.

The decision was at first made to allow Kaspar’s opponent to finally kill him, but.. When given the chance, the man in question refused, claiming there was no honor in killing an opponent that cannot stand and defend himself. So, Kaspar was sold instead, given to the butcher to do as he would with the dying stallion. And so Kaspar’s fate was set, he would be slaughtered, and still be made of use even in death. Butchered and used for parts..

But, again his life was spared, by a strange creature called Kamuk, and the scholar to whom the creature was in service. A scholar, who cared not for the wretched treatment of centaurs, and who fought to defend them as the noble beings they ought to be. The scholar, a gentleman by the name of Tomlin, bought Kaspar from the butcher and took the time to tend Kaspar’s wounds, and bring him back from the brink of death.

Now, Kaspar owes Tomlin and Kamuk his life, and upon discovering a surprising talent for magic, he has trained himself as a mage, and the three of them now are setting out on a journey to hopefully save the lives of many more who need it.

And as my ability to draw centaurs improves, my ability to draw faces gets worse.. I struggled with his face, so.. I kinda gave up on that for now. But yeah! New OC! The mage (former brawler/workhorse) Kaspar!
