I’m so happy to see a lot of people talk about hyperhydrosis. I’m male 24 suffering from palmer hyperhydrosis since i was born. I like a girl from work and she loves me so much but she always feels sad that I don’t touch her, I don’t even shake or hold her hands. I’m afraid that she might not like my sweaty hands. I really like her and can’t see her feeling bad. Idk what to do it’s killing me inside from 3 months. I’m a very calm person because it kills my confidence. What do I do. Please help.
From my own personal experience, people often find it odder/care more about the fact that initially you wont even touch them in a ‘normal’ way than they do about the sweat. For me, back in high school, when people would go to give me high fives I would turn my hand around at the last second so that they would hit the back of my hand. This always lead to confusion, questions, or people feeling like I didn’t want to touch them.
Basically, it is human nature for everyone to get all caught up in their own heads. The people that you don’t touch will likely think that it’s because there is something wrong with them, and will probably appreciate it and not really care a whole lot if you explain your sweaty situation to them.

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before, but I’m once again going to attempt to be consistent at responding to questions and reporting that wonderful, sweaty hyperhidrosis content.
A quick refresher about me: I’m Caitin, 28 and from the US. I started this tumblr when I was in grad school (about 5 years ago now) because I was starting to see more and more things pop up online and in in-person conversations about hyperhidrosis. A lot of it was very self-hating, and so I started this blog to try to have a place where people could ask questions, vent, and hopefully feel a bit better at the end of it.
The only treatment I have ever used was Drysol, and even that was about 8 years ago now. I try to make it very clear when I am obviously not the expert at a treatment (which is most times) and ask for other people who have any experience with a particular treatment to share theirs.
Stay sweaty 🏻

I just figured out I have hyperhidrosis this year and first of all, I’m so glad to discover that it’s not just me and that other people know what I go through and also my doctor prescribed me drysol and I’ve only been using it for a few days so far but it’s been working really well! I’ve been wearing colored tshirts in public which I don’t think I’ve done since like 6th grade or something and it’s so exciting! Now I just need to figure out a way to get my face to stop sweating so much haha
I’m glad the drysol is working for you! I started to put together a video/post (over a year ago, oops) about things to help with keeping the face in check throughout the day, maybe I’ll get around to it again.

how weird is it that I was born with palmar/plantar (hands/feet) hh but at puberty i also developed axillary (armpit) hh? did this happen to anyone or does anyone else have 3 types of hh? also this may sound weird but how do u suggest i tell my parents about the armpits? cuz they don't know that the hh started there too tysm, i love your blog x
Not actually that weird! There are sweat-glands all over the human body since sweat is the original swamp cooler system. But, the sweat-glands in the armpits don’t fully develop until around puberty - it’s also a different type of sweat-gland, and it’s related to the reason as to why people don’t typically start wearing deodorant for odor control until puberty.
If you want to explain it to them through the biology of it, I would look up the difference between eccrine sweat glands (cover most of the body) and apocrine glands (cover areas like the armpits/groin).

I can’t believe how many hyperhidrosis sufferers are on tumblr. I feel like even if we don’t talk, we’re a family. We need to stick together guys.

I can't wear flip flops because my feet always slip and my friends always want to high five me but I am afraid that they will judge me because of my sweaty hands .Ugh I hate this !
Ohmygoodness the number of times I walk out of my flip-flops on the regular! It’s a lot. I’ve found some decent ones at Target that actually stay on my feet. I’ve tried others that I’ve had to get rid of after like a week because I get a foot cramp trying to use my toes to keep it on my feet.
Your friends probably won’t judge you, but a thing that I used to do would be to turn my hand at the last second and high-five them with the back side of my hand.

Mate I just found out hyperhydrosis is a thing and it explains so much. I've had issues with my armpits and sweat stains for years. I haven't left the house without a jacket in a solid three years because of it. Do you have any tips?
There are some non-rx ‘clinical strength’ deodorants. If those are not strong enough and you have the means, you can always speak to a medical provider about getting something prescription strength. I used something before that I’ve written about called Drysol on my hands and feet.
A more long term goal is to try and change how you think about your sweating. It took me quite a long time, and I still have mental set backs, but starting on this will have the most drastic impact on your life out of anything

Oh my days there is a hh community on tumblr! Ahhh that's so cool! Just wanted to share that I've been using an Idrostar machine to try and reduce my hand sweat (it is like an electric current passing through water that you submerge your hands in) but I'm not great at remembering when to treat my hands. Wondering if anyone else is on this treatment (it's called iontophoresis)
I think I posted an ask about this yesterday?? Anyone with good results?

heey, I wanted to ask you how you react if you are on a date and he wants to take your hand? or if someone wants to shake hands with you? those things panic me!
If it’s a work situation, I try to slyly wipe my hand off on some clothing before I do a handshake. For a date situation I try to just be upfront with something I like to hope is funny in an awkward-cute way and it’s never been an issue. And if someone DOES make it an issue I’d say DUMP THEM. If they can’t deal with sweaty hands then there is probably a LOTTTT of other stuff they can’t deal with either!
Also, these things totally used to panic me too. It’s taken me quite some time to get to this place of not giving a fuck that I have gotten to, but that takes practice :)

Does anyone else wake up sweating head to toe and instantly has to shower because you're so damp!? It's the worst
Definitely happened to me before! I go to bed freezing with a full duvet and wake up feeling hot, sweaty and like I haven’t had water in a month ☠️

There is no telling me about how long ago this ask was asked, and since I was MIA for so long it could have been more than a year ago…. I will make a video on this soon! I have found some things that work for me.

Re Attempting
It’s been a hot minute since I’ve posted, responded to asks, or made a video. Like def over a year, possibly 2... Oops.
Long story short, going to try to fix that. I’ll be starting with going through a backlog of asks from who knows how long ago.
(Long story under the cut)
I started falling behind on this blog during my second year of grad school, which I have now been out of for almost 2 years. I didn’t want to delete it, because people were still reading the posts and getting help out of it. But I wasn’t interacting or answering asks.
I started to feel bad about not responding, and the longer I didn’t answer the more it felt like I couldn’t just jump back in and answer hella old asks.
But I know that it’s all in my head. So, if I answer your really old ask about something you wanted to know for a job interview/date/other important event several years ago, I’m sorry for the delay. But hopefully the answer will help someone else.
Stay sweaty.

Hi do you find that as a result of hyperhydrosis, when the season changes, especially when it gets hot, you get like mini blisters on your hands and they itch? Idk how to explain it
I have actually experienced this a couple times! Mostly when I was younger, and they went away relatively quickly, and were more like hives than blisters.

I've had it since I was little and I remember leaving hand prints everywhere and scared to meet new people cuz u would have to shake their hand. Looking for a job was embarrassing, talking to strangers always makes it worse. I'm 15 and it took a long time to convince my parents to let me take medication because they were afraid of the long term side effects of glycopyrrolate. I take sage in capsules to help my HH. but tmr I start my meds and I'm so excited to see what happens.
Let me know how it goes!
