Occasionally NSFW so minors DNI. My main blog is widthofmytongue.tumblr.com; this is my pop culture cache (but it's also a hard ☭ leftist ☭ blog, and if you've got right-leaning or even right-sympathetic or centrist views, you're my enemy and I want you to begone and never return).

There are entire books written about it and I find it funny because the allegory in The Matrix isn't very subtle at all (not the Jesus allegory with Neo and the resistance, the other one).
This system we created to serve us is now exploiting us? It's so pervasive it became our new reality and most people can't imagine a world without it? It led to environmental devastation? It appears in the guise of businessmen in suits? It tempts us with shallow luxuries while taking away self-actualization?
I truly wonder what it could be about ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

"It's fun and easy and important and good to dunk on Harry Potter and J.K. Rowling. But keep going and what you get at is: What about this story type and story telling resonates with you? Can you keep that while dropping all the things you know now cannot be maintained and should not be venerated? And is that a part of growing up?"

Super Mario World is one of the Mario games in which arbitrary code execution (ACE) is possible. ACE is the ability to use glitches to make the game execute not merely code it already contains but any instructions the system's processor is capable of, essentially making the game fully editable.
Large sustained applications of ACE (only possible via tool assistance) can be used to completely reprogram a game, while small humanly-achievable applications can be used to make the game "jump" to unintended places in the code (used most often to skip to the credits for the purposes of speedrunning).
Super Mario World does not normally contain an anti-piracy message, however, the Super Mario World + Super Mario All-Stars version does. The footage above shows the end of a humanly-achievable (though still exceedingly complex) setup in which ACE is used to trigger the anti-piracy message during gameplay.
