First Kiss

“The sky was blue, very few clouds in the sky; the grass a vibrant green and hardly a soul around. There were the few travels, a family here and there, but truthfully, none of the scenery around him or the people that passed caught any of his attention.      The sound of water hitting water as the fountain she sat on, spurted behind her was background noise to her excited babble. On and one she went about a new invention though if asked, he wouldn’t be able to give the same description. What she did went over his head at times, especially when she, herself, was so easily distracting. He tried, honestly, he did, to listen to her completely, give her his undivided attention, but when his eyes drifted from her own amber orbs to her animated lips, her words fell on deaf ears.      Part of him wondered if she would take notice that she was now talking to someone akin to a wall, but of course, she continued on, her voice, though words jumbling in his mind, always pleasant to listen to. Everything she spoke about, she always sounded so invested in and truly, sometimes it was hard not to get as excited as she did which lead him to such a far out there thought, that he was stunned at it himself. Would she be this enthusiastic about a kiss?      He was taken aback for a moment, breath hitching at the very idea. He suddenly felt very warm and could only blame the sun beating down on them for the red pooling in his cheeks. Do it, part of him urged, a hand nervously reaching up to adjust his glasses, You might not get a more perfect chance than this!      His hands were suddenly shaking with nerves; he curled his hands tightly into fists, trying to stop such a reaction but in the end, he knew that he was right. The weather was perfect, it was practically just them; no interruptions. He steeled himself, heart pounding against his ribs; Now or never. The world suddenly went quiet. She hadn’t taken the time notice, far too lost in her own talking to even realize how close he’d gotten. Only when he leant in and laid his lips to hers, did she fall silent. She blinked, her eyes large, frozen in place, that brain of hers racing to catch up to what was actually happening. A kiss, she quickly realized, causing her to freeze up even more if possible. Again she blinked, Hubert just as still as she was, his eyes squeezed shut and hands supporting himself on the rim of the fountain.     Once realty came slamming back to Pascal, her lips twitched upward into one of her warm smiles, her eyes slipping closed. Her hands found purchase on his shoulders, doing her best to return the kiss; a sloppy, first kiss for them both. She felt him relax a little when she returned his bold confession, his shoulders going slightly slack, entire body losing just a bit of that tension he seemed to carry with him. Hubert might not have known how to verbally tell her how he felt, but as the saying went, actions spoke louder than words.“
